Yeah, the animation is also kind of shitty, stiff and underwhelming. There were so many crotch shots it's obvious what kind of audience they're going for.
The first chapter of the manga is different from the anime and it makes no sense how they scrambled the content:

Kind of a let down. the manga is nice and the oni, fire and ink aesthetic is way stronger there than the cheap muh fire attempt done in the anime.

Watched the show and am surprised and how much they really bastardized the adaptation. I'm sure everyone who didn't read the manga could tell how rush the introduction of the new members was because in the manga, that took a lot longer for them to assemble all the members. Not sure how long since I haven't read it in a long time but I think 2-3 volumes would be a good guess. So this anime condensed all that character development, introduction of new characters, all in the span of 1 episode and in the 2nd episode of the show to boot. Wow.
That is a level of fucking up I haven't seen in a while. This show is an fucking insult if you love the manga. It even makes changes to scenes and cuts a lot of other characters to rush to the more tournament based action, losing the weight of the character development that they skip over. I've never been this pissed off at an anime adaptation since the Berserk 3D travesty. They really ruined a david vs goliath sumo manga for no real reason than to rush it, while they have Black Clover, a slow plodding, QUALITY ridden adaptation is still ongoing. I don't think Yuragi Inn adaptation didn't fair well either so I think they've given up on Shonen Jump anime and just doing it whether if it is good or not.

I'm pretty certain this anime was commissioned to try and drive up the declining interest in sumo, especially since all of the wrestlers have way too much muscle tone and nowhere near fat enough stomachs to even look somewhat like actual professional sumo wrestlers.
