I know this topic gets a little deep in 3D, but while the cosplay world is full of shit like every other hobby is, it always fills me with pride to see good cosplay pulled off. Why is the cosplay world so infested with normalfags though, /a/? What can we do to fix this? Is more autism the answer, or would that just dig the hole deeper?

I remember going to conventions when I was younger and merch booths aside, they were somewhere where you could be autistic with everyone else and do shit like laser tag in the hotel lobby with a bunch of guys in cool cosplay or glowstick bodysuits, without anyone saying anything even though you were all grown-ass adults. Admittedly I haven't been to a convention in a couple years, but the last one I went to seemed as if everyone's souls were sucked out, and all the cosplayers were either there for some company if they had a good cosplay, or were wearing shit like stormtrooper outfits to an anime convention. When did cosplaying and conventions become the mess that it currently is, /a/? And how do we fix it?

The answer is simple. We go there and release our power levels to either convert or find allies.

Failed normalfags are what killed our culture by invading our rightful clay because they wanted a way to climb their social ladders. If we make it impossible for them to climb any social ladder in our hobby we will have won. Do hardcore things that are hard to get into, and whatever is passionate. Wotagei, passionate discussion about the ins and outs of the industry, itabags, talking about and carrying frames of you're waifu, asking each panelist who is their favorite Touhou, etc. These things repel the normalfags and attract our own.

We have to take back what was ours. Reconquista now.

The main target audience for anime is the kind that does not like to socialize and only goes to conventions for paraphernalia and to fap to the cosplay pics at home afterwards. If you want to "change" this, you clearly are in the wrong hobby. Go away.

One other problem is that you're looking at western cosplayers. The west has been ruined by the nu-nerd culture, so that's why you see stormtroopers at "anime" conventions. Those aren't anime conventions, they're advertising and "look at how much of a nerd I am XD" conventions.

It is a human need to feel appreciated and loved. In cosplay you dress up in order to stand out and look better than you usually do. Not to mention if you happened to pull it off well you get to have the undivided adoration of slobbering nerds. Another side of it is of course the convention orgies. Yeah.

Not him but there is a tinge of respect and happiness seeing someone cosplay a show normalfags don't watch or really good/technically impressive cosplay. Dealers rooms are also fun as it is a mix of the cringiest cancer killing anime and hunting for figs of your waifu so you can overpay for her to show you love her more then money.
