You shouldn't be afraid of sharing your hobbies OP. Sure people may ask you what you do in your free time and such but that's just formality. Unless you're a hikkineet no one will treat you differently for your hobbies. Hell my office has weeb figurines and a coworker keeps flirting with me. Learn to embrace your inner weeb and others will learn to embrace you.

If someone asks I tell them I'm into it but I don't really bring it up outside of that unless they're into it too and want to have a discussion, or ask for a recommendation. It doesn't hurt that I have other hobbies like lifting, cooking, hiking, gardening etc. so for most people, hearing anime and manga amongst those doesn't create warning flags. If anything, I have to be more careful talking about how I own and support the ownership of guns in this climate.

I am very upfront about how I enjoy reading Japanese cartoons if someone asks about my hobbies. I also often read manga on my phone between lectures at uni. I don't carry around any anime merch or have an anime background on my pc or anything, though. I always watch anime alone.

I just don't bring up anime unless someone else does first. My anime friends know what I watch, and everyone else doesn't. And my drug addict imouto insists I'm a pedophile.Just keep things on a need-to-know basis, it's not that hard.

I show it at a really low level. All my friends and family know I watch anime, but they don't really know about manga or novels. I make very basic and milquetoast recommendations to normalfag to keep Smalltalk going, but if I see or meet someone who has some knowledge or doesn't mind showing their power level, I will show mine as well. I almost always keep the really high level stuff to myself though.

I have this theory that there are 2 types of high power level western anime fans, the Frieza types and the Goku types.

Both have high power levels, but the Frieza type's power level is lower, he's just unable to hide it. Sure, he's into anime, but he's into shit like SAO and SNK and is more or less stuck on the behavioral patterns of the high school weeb, since he never bothered to "train", he just did things passively more or less (watches stuff through crunchyroll, reads what's popular, reads things that have memes made out of them).

The Goku type can have a higher power level than the Frieza type, but he has ki control. He "trained" more than the Frieza type so he's not stuck with base shit like Adult Swim anime and top MAL shows, but you wouldn't know he's into anime unless someone else brought it up first, and you wouldn't know how much into anime he is unless you matched his interests. He lets more stuff out as the situation he's in asks for. The Frieza type would just go all out in any situation.

I think there's also an even more theoretical third type, the Broly type, who has a power level as high as a full power Goku, but always has it all out like a Frieza type. Maybe Mad Thad would fit into this in a way?

This. Once upon a time I had coworkers that knew about my interest in 2D. They somehow reached the same conclusion as this anons sister >>849862. I spent a good year in fear of being vanned until I got a different job. It was not worth telling anyone at all so I tell people about all of my other interests (cooking, gardening, wood/metalworking, programming, photography, motorsports) and that I enjoy working so most of my time is doing work related stuff. If by some miracle someone enters my home they will see buyfag stuff in most rooms. The intention is to never let anyone you don't completely trust into your house.

I only talk about it to friends or if someone else talks about it first. Not planning on hiding the figures I have at home.

I never strike up a conversation about anime, the conversations I've had in real life were always initiated by other people. However, the only thing I keep quiet about in those cases is being a lolicon.

The only people I've told about liking anime and mange were my parents, and only that because they wanted to know what I was downloading. Their response was to complain that I was wasting our (uncapped) internet on "animated foreign child porn garbage".

Previously I had mentioned wanting to get a gun license and they directly accused me of planning a mass shooting. With that in mind and considering their first reaction to the mention of anime, I opted not to describe the specific shows I watch in order to avoid getting vanned.

They were baffled that I decided to move out once it was financially viable even though it would have been cheaper to stay, and these days they wonder why I don't talk with them about my interests.

Otherwise I've always hidden it in public, not that there's any situation where I might show it if I wanted to. There are eight desks in the room where I work, and in the past six weeks there have been two casual conversations, both between the same two people.

As for at home, I don't have any posters, figures, or dakis, but if I get any they won't be hidden. What physical manga I've got are in the open on my shelf, and there are a few anime wallpapers in my rotation. Not like anyone will ever see it all.

I know that feel, anon. My dad used to do that all the time which I never understood because he introduced me to anime, D&D, etc., so I shut his ass up by buying him actual hentai DVDs at a convention and sticking them in his Christmas stocking for the whole family to see. He's never talked to me about anime since.

I live alone and never go outside so there's nobody to hide my power level from.

I've never hid my powerlevel and frankly I've never been criticized for it. I don't go fucking Naruto run around I just watch anime, hang posters in my living area and friends come over and it doesn't bother them, even if they're 100% normalfag

I never reveal any my power level unless I know that it will never leave the room. I went through four whole years of highschool with my best friend and he never found out I watched anime. We used to talk about how dumb anime was and bully all the naruto spergs for their lunch money no I'm not joking. A few years later I caught up with him and he started watching CGDCT. Apparently while watching Lucky Star he could never get over how Konota was just a female version of me.
