I joined an anime society. I expected it to be autistic, instead it was boring normalfags talking about their lives. They tried talking about Berserk to me. I think Berserk is the only anime they know, they don't even read the manga. Their were a couple roasties too who just sat down letting normalfags come up to them to chat and staring at their phones. I felt like a retard.

Anyone else experience this?

Why did you even consider joining an anime club/society?

Boredom. Even if they were autistic I'd have most likely hated them, it's not that I just hate normalfags. I wanted to see what anime society is like. My brother was in his university anime society, and before I learned that everyone is awful in the real world, I couldn't wait to be just like my brother, in university, keeping up with the latest anime, meeting like-minded people. I'm not youngfag, and this was 10 years when Seto no Hanayome was still fresh, but these were the (lack of) feels going through my heart when I was there.

Anyone relate to any of that?

Are they really that bad? I joined an anime club many years back and it was not too bad. The club president would always shit on streaming sites to the point where once told a club member to fuck off when they reccomended the club to use one. There was a verbal policy to never show popular anime in the clubroom since anyone can watch those if they wanted to at home. From the top of my head, I can remember watching anime like BECK, GTO, and Shigofumi during my time in the club. We also had a little sharing ring where we would share doujin games and sometimes visual novels. There was even a dedicated group of touhoufags who would occasionally project their games when the pres forgets to bring anime and would take turns beating each others' score or play competitively. They all laughed at me when I couldn't beat a stage on normal. From the way you described yours, it sounds like an absolute normalfag hellhole.

your's sounds much better than my attempt at joining an uni anime club. But even with fresh blood open to them we were ignored and forget-en when we left after watching an episode of normalfag shit.

The closest thing to an anime club I've been a part of is that for the past few years me and a couple friends get together to hang out and we watch some shows. We decide on new shows by watching the first episodes of a series and then putting our ratings on the spreadsheet. I think we're over 200 first episodes at this point.

Getting a lot of people you don't know, who are just loosely connected by some interest in a subject doesn't seem like a great idea.

Are you referring to them talking about random shit during the anime, or worse talking on the phone, or actually saying their prediction about what they think will happen, or making fun of a plothole/bad acting/QUALITY animation, or maybe they know something about the show, and can give a short, but insightful commentary about a certain moment in the anime?

Whenever I watch a movie/show/anime with a friend or friends, we like to talk during the viewing, especially if it's a 2 hour long movie, and make some jokes, or trying to predict what will happen.

The crazy part is that I don't think we ever actually broke rules 1&2 during all those years.

We don't talk so much anymore because we moved far away.

Regardless, I never did manage to make friends who I could be myself with as much as with that guy and I can tell you why: Most people never grew up on chans, and never skipped the indoctrination stage of their lives. They never developed the dark humor, or the patrician tastes, or anything worthwhile and interesting. <Skipping to a certain section makes you watch ALL the ads up until then

<If you can even use the broken playback feature of the editors

<Shitty website can't properly process your stream

<Tech support tells you (as a paying customer) that it's on your end, even when half the US is experiencing the same problem at the same time

<"Our services were down for three weeks for your area for maintenance but we're still going to charge you for a full month tee hee, sorry! :^)"

<"We realize customers were upset about our decision two weeks ago, we've already charged your account, here's 10 cents towards purchasing something with an unrelated service of ours/we'll give you pre-ordering capabilities for a product that we're charging $20 more than anyone else is!"

<Audio quality is variable/some episodes require full volume to barely hear

<Audio track comes undone from video track and you have to reverse the video about 30 seconds every 6 minutes to re-sync

<When audio quality is good, video buffers for 10 minutes at the lowest settings unless you refresh the page/rewatch the ads

I fell for the stream meme at one point because I was worried about piracy laws (streaming isn't counted as downloading) and then my young brain tried to process it as "helping the producers" when I moved to CR and had adblocking of course. Fuck that shit. After realizing the wait for most torrents on airing shows/recently airing shows is only a couple hours at most/you very rarely if ever get audio-video fuckery/buffering is non-existent, I can't believe I ever used streams for as long as I did. Truly magnet links are the only way.

It does piss me off when people get angry at a show being blurry. It was made in the 1980's and ripped from VHS, unless you want to track down the possible laserdisc release or the original 16mm it isn't going to get better than this.

>Limited space

Maybe if you're downloading 1080p upscaled videos or are 14 and don't have a job. If you're only downloading BDs and 720p during airing shows, you can store a shit ton of data for the price of not eating a hamburger once a week for a month or two. I have an (128GB) SD card with a few dozen shows on it in my tablet I use when out and about (~$60), and just cycle the shows I liked/want to keep onto my 4TB external hard drive I got for like $100. Internet bandwidth costs more than storing data these days unless you're dealing with servers/huge amounts of data.

I can assure you that whatever financial situation you're in, my own is likely either very similar or possibly worse since I support and feed three adult children other people financially/pay about half the rent and cover food costs all on wages comparable to a Wal-Mart supervisor. I'm one week away from living out of my car/showering at the gym if I fuck up and lose my job/miss more than a day of work every month. I feel your pain, anon, but no fucking excuses for that which you love. Do you "like to watch" anime, or do you love it?

Any club, no matter the interest, is always going to be populated by a bunch of normalfag jackasses with a surface-level knowledge of the material. This is because only normalfags feel the compulsion to group together in IRL crowds and share their interest with as many people as possible. It happens in every hobby. Video game clubs only play whatever the most popular game is at the moment. Car clubs are all retards with no real mechanical knowledge who drive pieces of shit covered in plastic chrome from Walmart. Book clubs read topical new release trash with no thought-provoking or vocabulary-building value.

A far better use of your time is just hanging out with one or two friends who are actually near your power level, and not labeling it. If you don't have friends, you won't find any at a club.

Hey nigger, guarantee you if an old obscure anime isn't torrented, then it sure as fuck isn't being streamed, officially or otherwise.

>I have Kodi set up on my Firestick, and just watch whatever I want from my couch. It's really comfy

>Also all you niggers act like you have to choose one method when its just as easy to do both

>being too stupid lazy to just play all of your torrented anime to your TV via media server software

Laugh at this dumb nigger.

We need a rule banning all streamfags.

Count yourself lucky. I recently finished two years at a maths sixth form, where the concentration of autists is much higher than in the general population.

It's kind of funny the first time someone uses words they've learnt from anime in normal conversation or wears attack on titan apparel, but it gets old real quick once the shock wears off. It's like being stuck in a virtual reality simulation of reddit.

Pic related, someone's locker.

I mean, helps that we're all adults there and we've not really encountered anyone distasteful.

The real cringe inducing society is the science fiction and Marvel society. That's where all the entry level people go.

Shit talking a movie is why you watch it with friends. If you're just going to sit there in silence the entire time you may as well watch it alone.

>>832549

There is good and bad in those times. I don't doubt the "are traps gay" shit lead a lot of anons to be pro-tranny. I think I could live without seeing a glass jar explode in someone's ass myself. The original oldfags were decent people but I doubt any of us are pure and innocent considering the shit we've seen.

>>834284

I hate fan service because I don't like middle grounds. If I want anime titties I will watch a titties anime. if I want anything else I will watch something else. If you're wasting my action adventure time on titties then I'm not happy about it. There are exceptions when it's genre suitable like a horror movie has a shower scene or a topless swimming scene. Those are part of the genre's character and they need to be there.

I tried my university anime club back when I was still a student and they seemed relatively good. They watched subbed anime together, they played video games (USFIV in particular is what I recall when I visited) and they made plans to watch Rebellion (Madoka) in theaters together as well as dinner plans and things like that. It was alright but I never saw any of the people outside of the club and hanging out infrequently wasn't as appealing as it could have been.

I did meet another group when going to watch Rebellion though, it was clear that they browsed imageboards and I made friends with them instead. Best mistake of my life.
