What does /a/ do to get rid of that void feeling after finishing a masterpiece?

Watch something else, play a game, masturbate, post here to let my thoughts out.
Dwelling on it just makes things worse.

I usually take a nap or go to bed early, and roll through the next day. After that it's good to watch something shit-tier before jumping into the next masterpiece.

I wouldn't call something a masterpiece if it left a void. If I want more of something good, I just watch, read, or play it again.

Curl up into a ball on the floor and wallow in darkness. Slowly lose my mind to animal rage against the 3DPD world now present before my eyes. Seize and wrench imagining wolves tearing the flesh from my bones and water filling my lungs. Gnash my teeth as my heart compresses in the empty vacuum and the reality that worse than dying alone, I will be condemned to live alone. Open my mouth to speak yet only black oil comes out. My eyes will not open, they do not want to see. At long last, sunk to the bottom of the ocean and burned to coal, my mind exhausts. Some minutes later I may slowly regain control of my arms, my legs, my breath. I can stand on two legs like a man and walk, but I dare not open my eyes.
I open my eyes. The disgust of 3DPD existence assaults them, but I do not suffer. I am already dead.

Read imageboard posts about it, and if those are not available, the wikipedia article on it, or a wikia. It's like easing out of it slowly rather than quitting cold turkey. I did something like this for Made in Abyss---having followed the anime while it was airing, but unfamiliar with the manga, I immediately sought out the manga and binged through what was released at the time the next day.
The Made in Abyss threads were a pretty good experience for someone in my position. Anons were good about hiding plot-spoiling details but still dropped enough hints about the nature of future events to leave me salivating.

After watching it a 2nd time I call it a pretty good. High ranking but, good movie. But it does bump it down the more times you watch it.

MiA was so damn good, I thought I was too jaded to enjoy any modern anime with how lousy it has become but this one just blew all expectations away. Read through the whole manga yesterday and have high hopes for S2. Feels like I missed out on all the threads back when it was just airing which is kind of a shame though.

I won't speak for anyone else, but if you're not a NEET, you have to get up and do stuff. While you're doing the stuff you can't help but feel a little empty (especially since you have to look forward to something lower quality now).

This is honestly what I did when I watched Evangelion for the first time about 8 years ago. Even without the porn, there's plenty of doujins that do a series justice.
>tfw no good Mushoku Tensei doujins
>tfw never gonna get good artwork or even a good continuation of Seven's automeido, Monica, or her Valkyrie imoutos
Truly you have to enjoy some works for what they are.

Take a walk, cook some food, take a shower, go to bed. I usually only watch masterpieces when I know I won't be disturbed and late at night so I don't have to bear the weight of finishing it for the rest of the day. The worst thing possible after watching a masterpiece is having to see or interact with another person.

A bittersweet ending can be good, but a tragic end with most of the cast dead is a failure in my eyes. Obviously, this wouldn't apply to horror stories, but rather multi-season "epics".

There is a light novel version of it available for Amazon Kindle that may fill in some blanks left by the movie. There is a manga series that I think deals with the perspectives of other characters.
Also, other shows, video games, books, and exercise.

I have had friends in the past, and whenever I would show them a masterpiece of anime,or music, or film, it just never had the same impact. It's like either some things can only really be experienced alone or it's just autism. Anybody else have that experience before?

I feel the same way, it feels like whever I try to show a friend a show even if they have similar tastes to me it never impacts the same. I guess when you experience something alone you don't have to think about anything else but that thing and you don't have to be afraid to express your emotional reaction to a particular scene. I think exciting "hype" type shows can be properly enjoyed with others. But anything with actual emotions can only be enjoyed alone

Other people never appreciate things in the same way that you do. And these kinds of feelings are a very private feeling. The only way to experience them together with other people would be in silence.
Anonymous 05/10/18 (Thu) 11:16:46 No. 824234

No. Not even silence is enough. The simple fact that they exist nearby and are watching is enough to ruin it, especially for people like me who have too much empathy. When other people are around I don't get to have my own feelings because I'm too focused on wondering how they're feeling.

There are very few anime that fit the description of "masterpiece" to me. To qualify those shows have to have lovable characters, a well executed story, impactful or memorable scenes, long lasting appreciation, and leave a desire to rewatch. The last reason is usually what separates "really good" anime from "masterpieces" as particularly emotional rollercoasters and many flavors of comedy are only good the first time. Similarly the long lasting part means recent anime can never be that good as an anime seen 5 to 10 years ago that still stands out, until those recent anime are at least that old.

Masterpieces usually leave me feeling so fucking satisfied that I don't have any loose ends or urges to see more. That's what it means to be complete and perfect. It's the incomplete, imperfect shows like Black Lagoon that I end up re-watching immediately after finishing the first time because they didn't sate me.
