>he actually does get his revenge
He does indeed but that's not the issue I'm having with these kinds of stories. I don't even know how to word this.
It's usually the build up that's lacking. We do seem him suffering but it feels more like an excuse that the author has to get out of the way for him to act out his revenge, not the other way around. Even the toture just feels too "simple". Everyone is either completely good or evil and the people making him suffer are the most horrible chucklefucks imaginable, who just make him suffer for shits and giggles. It just feels too "perfect".
Then there's also that it is yet an other fantasy setting based on videogame rules, in which many of his skills and abilities can be used just the way he needs them. He doesn't even need to plan or actually train for anything. The narration can just tell us that he powerleveld skill [X].
A story like this could take many interesting turns. What if he meets the other heroes now but they don't ever act like they used to in his timeline? It would be interesting to see him question his plans when they are just as innocent as he was, during his suffering. Actually, he killed those meidos in cold blood for his revenge-rape so he probably wouldn't give a fuck. What an ass.

I guess the "good guys are actually the bad guys" plot was original at some point but by now it has become the standard.
>Welcome to the holy empire of Nobilis Gloria. Capital of all humanity and home to the ecclesiarchy, it is protected by our noble Paladins.
<Alright. Which act are you guys going turn out evil?
