Trade school is the plan. No idea what i'll be doing specifically, just that it'll be a trade. I want to take a year off to myself though and finish off some things before I do another 2-4 years of school.

You can always write applications to some local observatory. I know that they are headed by the institution that staff and fund them, but you could get an internship there and simply do research in your free time (not with the observatory obviously, but on your own).

Astrophysics is a wide field of work, and I am sure you can find a place. Maybe do another bachelor in another field, like aerospace engineering to go with that. You should already have the physics and maths covered, so all you need is material science and construction courses.

After that people will be fighting for a guy like you on their team, since you are bringing in knowledge about engineering and astrophysics, which can certainly be combined in the construction of telescopes and the like.
