So you can get home from work, take of your gas mask and scrub the toxins off any body part that had been exposed to the outside during your trip home, enjoy a foul-tasting meal of liquefied meat-simulant gel with a side of nutrient pills, and open your favorite eroge in full knowledge of the fact that agents of the megacorporations that serve as the arcology's government have full access to everything you do, or you can go without the recordings and get accused of brainhacking.

What eroge there are that are legal, that is. Bukubukuchagama had a career voice acting in them, but when Ainz first arrived in the New World and groped Albedo, it was one of the things that convinced him it was no longer a game, because lewd actions in the game were banned under the Social Order Maintenance Act, so there are clearly stringent regulations.

Once the records of these R-18 actions were publicly released, they might be punished for damaging moral culture and thus violating the Social Order Maintenance Act

It's hard to say based on translations, but it definitely sounds like the devs just delete your account and publicize your actions, with SOMA being something you might get hit with after they did so. Especially since he says "these games", and mentions other laws like the ban on including taste and smell in Dive programs.

Besides, if Yggdrasil's dev studio was a subsidiary of one of the Big Eight megacorps that runs the world, then company policy essentially IS the law.

It's probably not as bad as you think One of the recent epilogues had a story about Ainz dying. I think it was told from the perspective of that alchemist's (the one who can wear any gear) wife being told by one of the Pleidas maids in a pretty apathetic way. So we've known this was coming for a while. If Ainz really got assassinated, I imagine that his followers would just go for world destruction (in revenge) rather than domination. It's most likely just Ainz faking the death of the sorcerer king or momon for political reasons or at least we'll find out if players are capable of resurrection (probably not. It'd just kill suspension going forward for no real reason).

 No.812799

>>812795

Well, consider that Shalltear cost literal mountains of gold to resurrect, and the guild's funds aren't unlimited/it's been shown that Yggdrasil gold is worth more than any other currency in this world. If we assume the price of resurrection increases exponentially as players level, as it does in other games, we can assume that the amount to resurrect Ainz who is 10 levels higher than Shalltear is probably ludicrous.

 No.812801

>>812799

Ah, sorry.

Point being, maybe they're trying to collect all the resources to resurrect Ainz since they didn't have enough? I still think it was faked, but this is a possibility nonetheless.

 No.812803

>>812799

I don't think it would be weird for there to be a different resurrection mechanic for players. It would be kind of shit game design to need both a guild that would resurrect you and a mountain of gold to resurrect in an mmo. If there really was a resource cost for reviving, then it'd probably have to be in the form of a microtransaction item (which means Ainz would have a bunch of them). At the very least I imagine Ainz has enough money to revive himself a few times, and he also has a bunch of really valuable gear to liquidate if worst comes to worst. I'm not sure if there was an explanation on player revival mechanics already, but I think he'd be alright as long as they carried over somehow.

The cost of a player resurrecting in Yggdrasil was 10 levels and the loss of a random item, weighted towards their most powerful.

There's a cap to the total level of every guardian/NPC. This suggests that their individual levels could be adjusted at any time, since in Yggdrasil, they couldn't leave Nazarick, so how else would they level up? Because their levels could be adjusted it'd be kind of pointless for them to lose some upon resurrection, and having to expend all those shekels to bring them back instead is probably how it's balanced out.

 No.813049

>in an mmo.

It's not a MMO. Tech has evolved way beyond that sort of gamey logic, it's essentially a virtual pen and paper D&D game (all the ranked spells are D&D spells... as in literally. Some aren't named exactly the same because of the English to Jap to English translation but most are a direct c/c) but with an insane number of players (because technology allows it).

It's why he mention they could do some shit with a "game master" approval that wasn't initially in the rules, or how human players could really gank non-humans, etc...

It's not meant to be balanced as a video game is, as in "every player as must have the same chances", it's balanced as a RPG as in "if you want to play a skeleton and human players team up to murder every skeleton players, that's perfectly normal. Don't play a skeleton or stay away from them".

 No.813115

I think I recall a line somewhere mentioning that monster-races (heteromorphic/grotesques , depending on your translation) were the only ones who could get levels in 'race', offering unique skills that more humanoid races couldn't get, but as a tradeoff, there was like, no penalty to PK'ing them. It might have actually been encouraged.

 No.813118

>It might have actually been encouraged.

It was. There were special classes you could only get by PKing heteromorphics.

That's why Ainz Ooal Gown's predecessor clan was named Nine's Own Goal. They were one of the few groups of heteromorphic players that would venture outside the areas most friendly to their races, so PKs weren't uncommon, and when it happened it just made their enemies even stronger.

No you shouldn't. Having specialized classes who suck at PVP but excell at other things or vise versa is the most fun system. If you want to balance every class to make them viable in PVP all classes will become very similar, resulting in a boring game where your class doesn't really matter in the first place. WoW did that so that nobody would have to feel bad about sucking at PVP and it turned WoW into a homogeneous pile of shit

That kind of mindset is what is killing all MMO's, in fact it's also something that tend to kill tabletop rpg campaign that aren't simple dungeon crawlers.

Because all the people that like serious PVP will always gravitate toward min/max and meta builds that will ultimately mean everyone is the same.

Instead of just having fun, thus making a RPG to cater to those needs is retarded, because ultimately only a fraction of the people playing MMO's play PVP.

You are not making any sense.

If you have a class that's vastly superior in a game where PVP is everywhere - and penalties for death are huge (10 levels, was it?) the no one would ever play other classes.

A class that's good at forging items/making money? Get ganked, loose 10 levels.

A realistic scenario is best for singleplayer and is IDEALLY best in general, but when you have people playing that will flip their shit because they just lost hours of progress because some faggot, then it's not viable.

Maybe it would work on a DEDICATED RP server, but in a general public enviroment? With kids and women playing?

Again, old-schoold D&D roleplay sessions would be ideal, but it requires ideal players. Player that will not use OOC knowledge to drive the character, players that will accept the death of their character without fuss, etc.

That works in a carefully selected group, NOT in a massive world with millions of randoms.

And Yigdrassil still looks like utter trash conceptually.

addendum - classes with other skillset MAY have some other recourse. A class good at making items/money can hire protection - but that again is problematic, since it depend on the player protecting you being on-line. You could buy hand-crafted NPC bodyguards ala Albedo, but at that point you're just a summoner that uses money for summoning.

What about classes like bard that's good at singing? Or some other classes with really weak specializations/skillsets?

Balance is a big fucking issue in everything that involves thousands of players and a massive headache for any designer. But just saying "fuck it" and do whatever you fee like is not the answer.

"Hi, I am the dev and I like this class/faction. Now I'm going to give it all the cool toys and buffs, while constantly weakening and sabotaging other classes/factions. Eat a dick"

>If you have a class that's vastly superior in a game where PVP is everywhere - and penalties for death are huge (10 levels, was it?) the no one would ever play other classes.

A big thing about this is that in Yggdrasil you were only allowed to make ONE character. You could not make a crafting alt to see what it was like, and a player who chose a crafting character could never make a combat focused character. A heteromorph could never try playing a humanlike, nor a humanlike a heteromorph. The game actively discourages trying out fun or RP builds, in favor of minmaxing your one chance. In fact, if Ainz hadn't been a heteromorph and a co-founder of Nine's, it would have been almost impossible for him to find a guild or clan willing to take him on, because he was one of the few players willing to stick to an RP build. It's specifically stated that anyone who tries to play the game as an RPG instead of minmaxing is looked down on as an idiot. The RP part of DMMORPG is actively discouraged, in direct contradiction to the claimed design philosophy of overwhelming player freedom and tabletop inspiration. The game opposes its own genre.

Really, the problem is not that the game is unbalanced. That would be fine on its own. It's everything else about the game - the harsh penalties for getting ganked, the fact that PVP is omnipresent and unavoidable even in your own base, and the fact that you cannot even make an alt to let you try both RP and competitive builds.

 No.813990

>>813987

Aren't you blatantly ignoring the fact that outside a few common builds, class/build information was intentionally scare by the game's design to the point where information dealers for the game were a real thing? Most players were seclusive about what they could do, which is why PVP was dangerous- you could win once, but then you'd reveal your abilities to the other party and they could develop countermeasures. With the scarcity of information and such, the loss of levels could actually be a GOOD thing because it gave you the ability to try out a new build/work your way into a new class or ability that you never knew about before. Ainz' RP build actually allowed him to get some super overpowered bullshit in his last few levels because information was so scarce about the later level classes. Need I remind you of The Goal of All Life is Death, anon? If it worked like that for Ainz RP build, there's nothing to say other RP builds or unconventional builds didn't have similarly overpowered possibilities born from less-than-common class choosings. You'd be right if information was readily available, but it took a good what, ten years of gameplay for the common core features to get codified? I remember reading that players would intentionally release false information to sabotage their competition, especially among PVP players.

Why do I get the feeling you've never actually played any MMOs? At all? Since we're releasing our power levels if the game is designed for crafters to have to dedicate themselves to be good then it's much more common to have other players help you in exchange for doing crafting for them. Anyone who ganks you can expect to be on a hitlist you give out to some of your stronger buddies, although it's a pain if you're laate to the gamke because everyone just pushes top the late game ignoring eachother you're still more likely to get help as a dedicated crafter.

Most female players are actually guys larping to fool desperate souls off their e-currency and kids are smarter and more cunning then you think.

Knowing Maruyama it's likely some low-tier items Ainz had laying around in his inventory that are considered to be very powerful by the new world humans.

>white gauntlet world class item

You mean the Generosity portion of Greed and Generosity? If I'm not mistaken they do something like collect XP from slain foes that can then be used for for skills that require one to spend XP (like the spell version of Wish Upon a Star). Mare probably still has them on him to avoid being mind-controlled by Downfall of Castle and Country. I read a while back that in the WN Mare used Greed to extract XP from the Re-Estize Kingdom soldiers that got absolutely annihilated in volume 9. Don't quote me on that though.

>>818414

I don't think they utilized Greed and Generosity in the LN version at the Kazte Plains massacre in volume 9 and Ainz was simply saying that after killing so many entities he should have leveled up via the XP gained from doing so. Thus, he concluded that his level was capped at 100 due to the fact that he didn't feel any more powerful. Mare was likely just wearing Greed and Generosity in case the 'mysterious entity' with a mind-control WCI attacked while they were on the plains.

Neia Baraja

Evil-eyed Fanatic

Vocation: Squire of the Holy Kingdom Liberation Army

Residence: Prime estate in Hoburns (her family home)

Class levels:

Paladin - 2 lv

Sacred Archer 3 lv

Evangelist 2 lv

Founder 4 lv

Birthday: 1st day of the Upper Wind Month

Interests: Telling everyone about how SUBARASHI the Sorcerer King is

Since her character has changed radically, she will be re-introduced. She lost levels from dying, but at the same time she gained levels from surviving the war. Her levels as squire were replaced and her character build ended up quite wasteful, but that was the result of her experiences, was it not? Neia does not realize that she is using a special technique to influence others' thoughts (on the level of brainwashing). When Neia uses her power on traumatized people, her words can save them.

It seems like she is Gonna die and get revived, maybe by Ainz.

It's in the workers book. Paladin's don't use magic in the traditional sense. They draw strength from their faith in their gods which empowers them with spells that represent an aspect of that god's nature. How that actually shakes out in the new world and regarding Ainz is up in the air. We know that the Theocracy worships players and that they have their own paladins so perhaps the myth and legends that are building up around Ainz-sama will lend to the creation of an aspect of protection or divine vengence.

So, you ignored the part where the Anon mentioned that the players themselves kept a tight lid on this stuff to avoid giving other PVPers any possible edge to the point literal information dealers were a thing?

I know it's the internet and all, but in a game like that I could VERY easily see players going out of their way to make sure information was scarce or otherwise untrustworthy.

Remember the old days of Pokemon where so many people with "Uncles working in Nintendo" said that Poke Gods were going to be a thing, and you could find Mew by walking around the grass on the sides of Pallet town? Imagine those same guys, but now with something to gain or keep by misleading you.

Actually rereading that description and including the lizardman village as well as the rescued orcs, paladins of sasuga likely will be able to invoke a form of support for resurrection or healing magic for those in despair or on the brink of death. If it is truly legend and belief that empower the creation of divine aspects then the cult of sasuga the lizardmen founded was based upon the "miracle" of Ainz resurrecting whats his tail and Neia dying, the orcs being rescued from Demiurge's happy fun playtime, and Neia being presumptively resurrected by Ainz would create a legend of the god who stands on the threshold of life and death and can return people from the gates of hell. Pure speculation of course but it would fit thematically as well as lend an easy explanation to her what I can only assume are her abilities.

Could very well be. Again we don't know exactly how the priesthood and paladins turns belief in player characters into magic. Judging by how they saw players using magic and somehow, despite heteromorphic races having natural magic, suddenly decided they could develop magic there are a lot of ways it could be interpreted. I am thinking it is a little more than mundane brainwashing like the CIA does to create MK Ultra victims that it then uses to commit shootings so it can justify disarming the American populous and institute the zionist oppressive government's plans to turn the citizens of the US into a slave class. It doesn't help that marmalade-sensei seems to get an idea and almost develop it before deciding it is dumb and just dropping it, ala EE twitter short story. We know that the bow, and more than likely the other items Ainz gifted her, were enchanted with a form of charm magic. It may be that her being a paladin of sasuga enables her to perform miracles and there is an added effect of a compulsion being laid upon the recipient.

Man I forgot how fun read along were threads were. Remember how when the translations were catching up during the first season we would all gather round and discuss this shit all week waiting for the next revelation? I still remember everyone racing through the conclusion of the bath volume and near simultaneously posting in confusion trying to figure out exactly what Albedo's true form was before tentatively settling on a Nalfeshnee. There are some versions out there of the compiled pastebins that are released as real translations of volumes (classic steal jobs for add shekels, aggregators sites, etc...).

Except while the pastebins are public for us for example it's obviously first a tool for the editors and cleaners as the main translator, who does most of the work but it's still a rough work without ed/cl. Nigel exaggerations and voluntary errors are always edited out by the editors (as with the actual errors and almost all typos). Except maybe the "collapsed like a puppet with it's strings cuts", which is a jap expression Overlord author does actually overuse.

Actual volume released by Sky or Nigel are as good or better than the official trad, as official trads tend to have that nasty habit of "localizing" things (Lord Ainz Vs Ainz-sama, that kind of shit).

I honestly feel like 7 is the worst volume in the series, given that it sets up some characters who all die, has Ainz test something that could've easily been done offscreen and shows him throw a temper tantrum that makes him look retarded. The only things you get out of that volume are:

>workers are a thing

>Nazarick's traps are a-ok

>Fluder is now a part of Ainz's fanclub

Which aren't all that impactful.

7, 8 and 11 are commonly regarded as the weakest volumes probably because they all deal with stories that don't immediately advance the plot in any way, at least much less so than the exploration, confrontation and conquest that takes place in the other volumes (10 being an exception to this but I still found it really fun to read), they focus on smaller stuff whose consequences we sometimes see in the backdrop, like the runic weapons and the general development of the Sorcerous Kingdom.

I trust 13 will be solid, and that Maruyama will make something genuinely good with all the stuff he's been building up. If he doesn't, then maybe after the release of vol.15 you'll be able to make an educated guess as to whether shit's fucked or not.

PS: volume 4 best volume

>Don't most people complain about 4 for being pointless?

Ayup. Thing is, 4 is crucial as the starting point of Nazarick's world conquest, and that is much more important than anything that happens in 7, I'd even go as far as to call it one of the most important volumes, period.

And both 4 and 7 deal with the horror of discovering the surreal strength of Nazarick, but 4 not only does it first, it does it better. The lizardmen have a history, feuds, folklore, they're a community that exists in the world in a specific way, lives in a specific place and has a reason for doing so. They're unique. The workers don't have any of these things, they really are not very different to adventurers in general and the Baharuth Empire they live in is not explored through them, given that they're more or less outsiders and the volume focuses much more on the workers' exploration of Nazarick than their lives. They only have their interpersonal relationships which in any form of media takes a long time to become something you actually care about. Arche is the one character in the volume that is more or less developed, with how she is forced to take on dangerous missions so she may be able to pay off her decadent parents' debt and get a safe home for her sisters. And you can see this reflected in the community, her name is the only one that pops up from time to time, nobody cares about the old spearman Parpatra or the archer Imina, because there isn't much to care about.

I think it's a Japanese pun or quip (I don't know moonrunes so I can't be sure). Apparently Temperance, one of the members of Ainz Ooal Gown in Yggdrasil, had instructed somebody to refer to him by 'Anyami Shirabe.' From how Ainz talks about him he sounds like a bit of a jokester. Apparently he created Chacmool, one of the 'Five Worst,' a group of five NPC's in Nazarick considered to be the worst in one way or another. I think Chacmool is the 'Worst Personality' of the Five Worst. As a side note, a 'Chac mool' is apparently a Mesoamerican sacrificial altar shaped like a man reclining on his back while holding himself partially upright with his elbows. Some of them may have been used to sacrifice human hearts to the various Mesoamerican gods. I imagine Chacmool is something similar to this either in appearance, concept or both.

Temperance is the one that made the Erich String Orchestra of Great Doppels under Chacmool. Chacmool was mentioned before as one that would appreciate humans to toy with when compiling the lists of wages/bonuses.

This part need research because I think "anyami shirabe" is not the correct translation in the first place. Shirabe means something along investigation/preparation/inspection but "Anyami" doesn't mean anything in jap AFAICT.

暗黑 in Chinese seems to mean darkly? 暗 as an name is darkness/assassination and 黑 is illegal/shady/sinister (it's also slang for hack, in computer hack).

The jap equivalent would likely be 暗闇, Kurayami (Darkness).

So that would be "Kurayami no Shirabe" or something close: "He who instigates darkness" which sounds very chuuni thing which is likely why it makes Ainz happy...

I suppose that makes Momon his role-playing character. He did mention once that he wanted to eventually attribute all of those feats to Ainz Ooal Gown, but that sounds more like an excuse than anything else. I imagine that, in reality, he would be rather hesitant to throw away his method of running away from his responsibilities and role-playing.

>What does he gain by telling the whole world he's dead?

1) It puts the Holy Kingdom tremendously into the Sorcerous Kingdom debt and if the leadership follow the Retardios plan of ingratitude, the people of the Holy Kingdom that witnessed the fight might revolt and push for annexation into the Sorcerous kingdom since they know Ainz died to save them while the paladins were just useless. Worst case scenario it makes certain the Holy Kingdom won't ally with the Theocracy against Nazarick.

2) Assuming it's enemies in the shadows are players, if they think he's dead they would probably try to loot his base if they're dicks, try to stop his NPCs to go on a rampage if they're not (given that it does seem likely that was what the 13 heroes were doing the platinum dragon and cie might come sniffing around the Sorcerous kingdom while so far they were giving it a wide berth).

3) By pretending to be dead he can just go play around as Momon as a he pleases, instead of having to sit on his ass and pretend to look important...

They were the real meidos who love the heck out of Ainz and have repeatedly said they are unhappy that Ainz is wandering the world instead of living in Nazarith where they can care for him and bask in his glory. If they heard that Albedo was creating a team to challenge Ainz on the condition that if he lost he would have to stay at home for a year they would demand that they fight themselves and Albedo would be more than willing to accept there help. There will probably be an intermission or after story of the meidos and Albedo conspiring to pull the wool over Ainz's eyes. The greater doppels are likely more powerful than the pleiades. The pleiades (besides Omega) aren't that high level to Nazarick standards.

There is too much background on those doppels to be just that.

Character sheets got dropped, this spoiler piqued my interest.

"As a magic swordsman, he was the type who switched between swords and spells. However, he was a jack of all trades but a master of none, so he was often a second-choice pick as a party member. That said, he was good in a fight, and his ability as a gamer was quite high. In the real world, he learned some ominous information about the megacorporations which ruled the world and was killed in an accident to seal his lips. The information he possessed made its way into the hands of a certain someone."

They're going to have this game be some fucking plot of mega corporations somehow, I speculate.

I really hope there isn't much time dedicated to explaining the world outside Yggdrasil or why Ainz got isekaied. It just doesn't matter at this point, and it seems really easy to mess up the writing by focusing too much on that. To explain it you'd need to flesh out the details of the original world and any characters involved in him shifting worlds. I've already been on that ride of a lot of detail being poured into something pointless with Arche, and I really don't want to go again. Also, I don't think Ainz really cares at this point. He seems to be more interested in how his current world differs from the mmo. Wherever Ainz body is it is probably already dead anyways. He has been gone for way over 3 days, and he should have died of thirst long ago. He also didn't expect to play anything VR so there's no way he would have set up some life support device or something. The only ways he could be alive are if he got taken away by people while unconscious (could foreseeably take an entire novel to explain) or no time has passed out of game (then there is nothing to explain in the first place).

Neia/Remedios showdown when?

 No.826221

>>826203

My money is on her and Caspond doing something to neutralize Neia, and then them doing so will backfire. The holy kingdom will no longer have leadership (at least the part that demihumans have raided), and the people will look to the Sorcerous Kingdom for annexation. Demiurge will say this is much better than the best scenario he had devised, and Albedo will talk about how Ainz is amazing for overcoming her pleidas ambush. The biggest question in all of this is what Neia's position will be after the war. Is she going to become an honorary member of Nazarik or will she simply serve as the governor of what was once the holy kingdom? I think she is the most loyal to Ainz out of all of the humans, but it could be a really big problem if she finds out that he was responsible for the demihuman invasion. Both of her parents were killed, and I think she would have a lot of reason to resent him. Also, did Demiurge disguise himself when he played Jaldaboath? If Jircniv saw a drawing of Jaldaboath from someone who was there, could he link it with the frog monster from Nazarik he has seen?

 No.826226

One of the plot points I think is a bit sad is how easily her dad died when apparently he was one of the biggest badasses of the kingdom. We didn't see him do much but apparently he was on par or in certain circumstances greatly surpassed Remedios. It's a shame he died so nonchalantly.

I think Demiurge personally killed him with a meteor so it isn't too shocking. Actually, thinking back on it, I am not entirely sure if it was Demiurge or his summon. The meteor might have come from the demon's ability to use any magic once a day.

It is unlikely that anyone would compare the two. A running joke seems to be everyone is going 'Haha toadman is so stupid looking!", and so they don't even think to make the connection between him and Jaldabaoth.

If I had to guess, her heroic status will either elevate her to a sort of governorship, or she will migrate with followers to the sorcerous kingdom.
