It's hard to say based on translations, but it definitely sounds like the devs just delete your account and publicize your actions, with SOMA being something you might get hit with after they did so. Besides, if Yggdrasil's dev studio was a subsidiary of one of the Big Eight megacorps that runs the world, then company policy essentially IS the law.

It's probably not as bad as you think One of the recent epilogues had a story about Ainz dying. I think it was told from the perspective of that alchemist's (the one who can wear any gear) wife being told by one of the Pleidas maids in a pretty apathetic way. So we've known this was coming for a while. If Ainz really got assassinated, I imagine that his followers would just go for world destruction (in revenge) rather than domination. It's most likely just Ainz faking the death of the sorcerer king or momon for political reasons or at least we'll find out if players are capable of resurrection (probably not. It'd just kill suspension going forward for no real reason).

Well, consider that Shalltear cost literal mountains of gold to resurrect, and the guild's funds aren't unlimited/it's been shown that Yggdrasil gold is worth more than any other currency in this world. If we assume the price of resurrection increases exponentially as players level, as it does in other games, we can assume that the amount to resurrect Ainz who is 10 levels higher than Shalltear is probably ludicrous.

I don't think it would be weird for there to be a different resurrection mechanic for players. It would be kind of shit game design to need both a guild that would resurrect you and a mountain of gold to resurrect in an mmo. If there really was a resource cost for reviving, then it'd probably have to be in the form of a microtransaction item (which means Ainz would have a bunch of them). At the very least I imagine Ainz has enough money to revive himself a few times, and he also has a bunch of really valuable gear to liquidate if worst comes to worst. I'm not sure if there was an explanation on player revival mechanics already, but I think he'd be alright as long as they carried over somehow.

This suggests that their individual levels could be adjusted at any time, since in Yggdrasil, they couldn't leave Nazarick, so how else would they level up? Because their levels could be adjusted it'd be kind of pointless for them to lose some upon resurrection, and having to expend all those shekels to bring them back instead is probably how it's balanced out.

It's not a MMO. Tech has evolved way beyond that sort of gamey logic, it's essentially a virtual pen and paper D&D game (all the ranked spells are D&D spells... as in literally. Some aren't named exactly the same because of the English to Jap to English translation but most are a direct c/c) but with an insane number of players (because technology allows it).

It's why he mention they could do some shit with a "game master" approval that wasn't initially in the rules, or how human players could really gank non-humans, etc...

It's not meant to be balanced as a video game is, as in "every player as must have the same chances", it's balanced as a RPG as in "if you want to play a skeleton and human players team up to murder every skeleton players, that's perfectly normal. Don't play a skeleton or stay away from them".

It was. There were special classes you could only get by PKing heteromorphics.

That's why Ainz Ooal Gown's predecessor clan was named Nine's Own Goal. They were one of the few groups of heteromorphic players that would venture outside the areas most friendly to their races, so PKs weren't uncommon, and when it happened it just made their enemies even stronger.

A big thing about this is that in Yggdrasil you were only allowed to make ONE character. You could not make a crafting alt to see what it was like, and a player who chose a crafting character could never make a combat focused character. A heteromorph could never try playing a humanlike, nor a humanlike a heteromorph. The game actively discourages trying out fun or RP builds, in favor of minmaxing your one chance. In fact, if Ainz hadn't been a heteromorph and a co-founder of Nine's, it would have been almost impossible for him to find a guild or clan willing to take him on, because he was one of the few players willing to stick to an RP build. It's specifically stated that anyone who tries to play the game as an RPG instead of minmaxing is looked down on as an idiot. The RP part of DMMORPG is actively discouraged, in direct contradiction to the claimed design philosophy of overwhelming player freedom and tabletop inspiration. The game opposes its own genre.

Really, the problem is not that the game is unbalanced. That would be fine on its own. It's everything else about the game - the harsh penalties for getting ganked, the fact that PVP is omnipresent and unavoidable even in your own base, and the fact that you cannot even make an alt to let you try both RP and competitive builds.

Why do I get the feeling you've never actually played any MMOs? At all? Since we're releasing our power levels if the game is designed for crafters to have to dedicate themselves to be good then it's much more common to have other players help you in exchange for doing crafting for them. Anyone who ganks you can expect to be on a hitlist you give out to some of your stronger buddies, although it's a pain if you're laate to the gamke because everyone just pushes top the late game ignoring eachother you're still more likely to get help as a dedicated crafter.

Ive not given up hope completely on the series. Volumes 9 and 10 were two of my favorite in the series, and while that may have been months ago, thats not very many installments in the series. I was not a huge fan of the 7th volume, and parts of the 8th, but it was worth the wait for the following two. If Vol 13 or 14 is as good as 9 or 10, Ill be perfectly content.

If I'm not mistaken they do something like collect XP from slain foes that can then be used for for skills that require one to spend XP (like the spell version of Wish Upon a Star). I read a while back that in the WN Mare used Greed to extract XP from the Re-Estize Kingdom soldiers that got absolutely annihilated in volume 9. Don't quote me on that though.

I don't think they utilized Greed and Generosity in the LN version at the Kazte Plains massacre in volume 9 and Ainz was simply saying that after killing so many entities he should have leveled up via the XP gained from doing so. Thus, he concluded that his level was capped at 100 due to the fact that he didn't feel any more powerful. Mare was likely just wearing Greed and Generosity in case the 'mysterious entity' with a mind-control WCI attacked while they were on the plains.

There are some versions out there of the compiled pastebins that are released as real translations of volumes (classic steal jobs for add shekels, aggregators sites, etc...).

Except while the pastebins are public for us for example it's obviously first a tool for the editors and cleaners as the main translator, who does most of the work but it's still a rough work without ed/cl. Nigel exaggerations and voluntary errors are always edited out by the editors (as with the actual errors and almost all typos). Except maybe the "collapsed like a puppet with it's strings cuts", which is a jap expression Overlord author does actually overuse.

Ayup. Thing is, 4 is crucial as the starting point of Nazarick's world conquest, and that is much more important than anything that happens in 7, I'd even go as far as to call it one of the most important volumes, period.

And both 4 and 7 deal with the horror of discovering the surreal strength of Nazarick, but 4 not only does it first, it does it better. The lizardmen have a history, feuds, folklore, they're a community that exists in the world in a specific way, lives in a specific place and has a reason for doing so. They're unique. The workers don't have any of these things, they really are not very different to adventurers in general and the Baharuth Empire they live in is not explored through them, given that they're more or less outsiders and the volume focuses much more on the workers' exploration of Nazarick than their lives. They only have their interpersonal relationships which in any form of media takes a long time to become something you actually care about. Arche is the one character in the volume that is more or less developed, with how she is forced to take on dangerous missions so she may be able to pay off her decadent parents' debt and get a safe home for her sisters. And you can see this reflected in the community, her name is the only one that pops up from time to time, nobody cares about the old spearman Parpatra or the archer Imina, because there isn't much to care about.

What we've got of chapter 2 so far was pretty entertaining. There is just something special about group bullying Remedios. These drills seem like a pretty bad idea. Worst case scenario it makes certain the Holy Kingdom won't ally with the Theocracy against Nazarick.

2) Assuming it's enemies in the shadows are players, if they think he's dead they would probably try to loot his base if they're dicks, try to stop his NPCs to go on a rampage if they're not (given that it does seem likely that was what the 13 heroes were doing the platinum dragon and cie might come sniffing around the Sorcerous kingdom while so far they were giving it a wide berth).

3) By pretending to be dead he can just go play around as Momon as a he pleases, instead of having to sit on his ass and pretend to look important...
