>It's HWNDU: Capture the Flag, but motherfucking Lupin

I'm already in love at the first episode. It just makes so much god damned sense to include "hacking" in themes for Lupin. And the presentation in this is just so fucking on point.

>>813189

>>813321

She could also be as young as she looks. Lupin loves the ladies, yes, but he's not going to bang a fourteen year old.

>>813296

>Being surprised this isn't discussed more on /a/

None of the good shit is. Vanishing Line, Cutie Honey, Megalo Box, all of those shows threads aren't nearly as active as they deserve to be.

But I see what you mean, Lupin in particular you'd think it'd be more discussed here, given how much gratuitous fanservice there is.

 No.817372

Yeah I'm getting kind of frustrated that shit like SAO is getting more discussion than the best stuff this season.

So, as someone who grew up only having watched the series passively because it was in between other shows but never getting the chance to pick it up seriously, why exactly are there seemingly infinite iterations of the main characters? I recall there being a movie where more of them show up, is the title of Lupin the Third sort of the same thing as 007, as in it's more of a title than a real person and copycat burglars try to live up to that name?

>>817282

I was leery of the new Lupin cause the last cour was so stupid. The blonde rich girl who wanted to be a thief for shits and giggles was annoying and more importantly didn't make sense. Anime Jason Statham didn't make sense. Communicating with Leonardo DaVinci through a dude's dream journal or something didn't make any fucking sense and caused me to drop it without watching the final couple of episodes.

This new cour is really cool so far though. Darknet drug markets, cyberpunk hacking shit, campy villains, HWNDU shitposting, and the new kuudere waifu are all right up my alley at least.

 No.817505

>>817499

It's all the same characters, but each iteration differs a bit from the other ones. Women Called Fujiko Mine is probably the one that sticks out the most, where comedy is toned down to bare minimum, but fanservice and edgier elements are very prominent.

 No.817524

>>817499

That movie was a metaphor of passing the torch, Lupin's original voice actor died and as you probably know nips are super serious about consistency with voice actors. Usually when a character's VA dies they just retire the character.

As much as I normally dislike the idea of series trying to update by including Internet shit, this one did it very well. Refreshing to see Jim Bell-style assassination markets and thinly veiled Silk Road references instead of just "hacking into the mainframe" shit.

 No.817619

>>817575

What this series is doing is just showing things how it is. "hacking into the mainframe" type of hack jobs are done by people who honestly don't understand how the internet works and how prevalent it is.

I think media will be more and more competent in including internet shit in an organic way. Lupin isn't the first one to do it right, a ton of shows nowadays talk about the internet without being retarded about it. A lot of kids anime especially are really competent at showing smartphones and the internet being used in a practical, realistic way.

Part IV

Daisuke Jigen's gravestone

The woman called Fujiko Mine

A nice change-of-pace referencing previous, less popular Lupin. Maybe they'll break up each story arc with one-offs like this. I wonder if they'll all be Pink Jacket, or we'll see some other appearances/styles?

>>824831

I don't see it as an issue if it's just a one-off but I hope the whole show doesn't become Pink Jacket.

>>823815

You ever seen a studio ghibli film? Miyazaki only writes pure-hearted, young, outspoken heroines. Possibly stemming from his suppressed paedophillic tendencies.

Transforming Lupin into a kind-hearted, genteel old rogue, pushing Fujiko to the sidelines and replacing her with a child princess in Cagliostro was the worst example of this. I'm glad he's too old to write Lupin any more.

>first interlude is pink jacket

>second is red jacket

green jacket after next arc

Intrigued by the way this series is attempting to give lupin a canon

With green jacket as his ferocious youth, red jacket as a softer, slightly older lupin (cagliostro did this too) and pink jacket as a mid-life crisis -but doesn't this imply blue jacket's old enough for a pacemaker. They've already referenced his hairpiece.

>>827950

I preferred Albert by the end of this arc. His complete ruthlessness in pursuit of an objective is classic lupin, though obviously his scorn for women took on a less conventional form.

If you just want to catch up with this series, watch Part 4 then this.

Then watch Castle of Cagliostro and Secret of Mamo to see how serious you like your Lupin.

If the former, try series 2

If the latter, try series 1 and The Woman Called Fujiko Mine.

Everyone will tell you to skip Pink Jacket but give Legend of the Gold of Babylon a watch.

Probably. Lupin has to have slower than normal aging to be the grandson of a man who was an adult in 1905 anyways.
