Episode 9 was a bit better but for the wrong reasons. I feel that's the case because it tries to emulate how episodes used to be done, albeit poorly. Capturing this card took actual effort and preparation, unlike every single other card in this season. Besides that, the scenes leading up to the inevitable appearance of the card was extremely rushed and didn't mesh well with the other scenes, let alone the original scene that it was based off of. Also, did they repair the glass before they went back that same night? That seems like quite a stretch. Also, during the scene where Sakura escapes from the card, the glass ceiling was broken. Would that not have attracted the attention of every guard there? And what about security cameras? You could have gotten away with that in the original series because security cameras weren't quite as common back then, but in the modernized Cardcaptor we see now, there's no excuse not to take them into consideration.
Excuse my autistic ranting, and I may very well be over-analyzing this or nitpicking, but the original Cardcaptor series is one of the anime that got me into anime as a whole. You may argue that this is just a kid's show or something, but I disagree, seeing as how it clearly panders to the audiences that watched the original seasons. If they're going to continue this series, then the least they could do is not make a mockery of it like Devilman is doing.

I think you very much are, this isn't the part to be sperging about whether you can justify suspending your disbelief over it. Think back to the original series. Remember the time it snowed only on that specific town, then all the snow melted instantly? Or the time Sakura grew several stories and wrestled a giant dragon in the park? Or the time everyone in a large radius simultaneously fell asleep, and how it happened multiple times? And I'm sure you can think of plenty of other great examples. The NPCs in these shows are cardboard cutouts, they don't do anything and they don't matter.
That said it amused me to no end that the aquarium installed a drainage system. I like to think these cardboard cutouts intuitively know about all the shit going on and are just accepting it and working around it all without thinking too hard about it.

A drainage system which, rather than opening automatically, is controlled by a manual switch at the bottom of the building where it's most likely to be underwater. Someone certainly didn't think too hard when designing that.
But yeah, the original series had many small flaws too. I overlooked those because I was having too much fun watching each episode unfold. I think people are over-analyzing this series because they've already lost interest in the main story and even the SoL aspect isn't enough to carry it.

"Itadakimasu" is basically just the polite form of the verb "itadaku", which is already humble language and has a pretty vague meaning but comes close to something like "to receive, to accept, to partake (in/of sth.)". You have to admit it sounds like a pretty weird thing to say in English, at least in the kind of casual and nonchalant way the Japanese say it. I think approximating it to stuff like "Thanks for the meal" makes it a bit less stand-outish but you run into trouble when a someone says it when it doesn't make sense to say that, like when they prepared a meal for themselves. From there it's a slippery slope to the "Rub a dub dub time to dig in with Satan's unholy blessing" territory.
I think the problem is with the limitations of English more than anything.

>why don't the translators use literal translations for everything
In addition to what >>805613 said, a child like Sakura would not literally say "I will humbly partake of this meal" because in English, that's an incredibly stilted and artificial way of expressing thanks which goes against her voice (in the literary sense) of being a carefree little girl.
You're putting Japanese on a pedestal here; the point of a translation is not to literally translate the words said by each character but to equate the ideas those words express. In doing so, the translator must consider how each character would express that idea, which includes sentence structure, grammar, stress, and (yes) even diction.
If you think I'm defending RUB-A-DUB-DUB, think of it this way:
>In French, you ask for something politely by adding "S'il vous plait" to your sentence in the appropriate place
>The literal meaning of this phrase is "If it you pleases" or "If it pleases you"
What would you translate this as if you were adapting a French comic? You'd translate it as "please" because that's how the French use the phrase, and "please" is the English way of expressing that polite request; a literal translation of "if it pleases you" would make the speaker seem insincere or imply he was speaking to someone FAR more important than him. You couldn't simply add "plait" to a French sentence translated from English because it'd sound wrong and in this case would be grammatically incorrect.
The same thing happens with that subtitle: Sakura is using the most common way in Japanese to express thanks for food. The most common way someone would say that in American English is "thanks for the food" or "let's eat!"
Sage for linguistic pedantry.

On the one hand, the magic system might feel a bit more consistent if all magic required some kind of card-like objects.
On the other hand, they'd then have to justify the existence of yet another set of magical not-Clow cards, and they've yet to justify all the ones we've seen so far.
I suppose it's probably too much to ask for the author of a magical girl manga aimed at kids to plan a detailed and self-consistent magic system in advance with room for expansion into multiple arcs. When it comes to shows with girls as cute as Sakura, my suspension of disbelief is very forgiving.
