The music, art style, and voice acting are all top notch. To this day I still find myself thinking about those qualities. It's a bit disappointing that no other show has quite matched it. The style is just God tier. I hated how the later parts focused on doppelgangers, and I wished it would have gotten a proper resolution. Then again, that would have defeated the purpose.

I remember watching one episode of that and dropping it after thinking it was about disgusting shit. I have developed tolerance to disgusting shit since then but i still have my doubts about watching this properly

Yes, I've never been a fan of "carnival" music, but its use in the dream sequences was enchanting. So far for me, it's a standalone.

Being grossed out by spit is a personal issue. The main function of the drool tasting is to be an extended metaphor for Urabe and Tsubaki's ability to communicate feelings as a couple. In the case of SundoMe, it's a little bit more abstract, drawing upon Kurumi and Aiba's emotional co-dependence as a coping mechanism. In a lot of fiction, a metaphor drawn between a couple is usually about sex, except when the metaphor is sexuality itself (as it is in both manga). As a matter of fact, Ueshiba used the drool device as a reaction against modern promiscuity among Japanese schoolchildren, thereby sidestepping the need to use sex as a metaphor in the first place.

It's a shame Hoods Entertainment, the studio of behind MGX, stop doing stellar ecchi shows afterwards. Before MGX they did Qwaser and Manyuu Hikenchou. The studio seem to have real talent but isn't really used that well, apart from the recent Drifters show.

I'll give you the spit-vomiting, as from my perspective it was done for the sake of connecting the drool to an physiological and emotional reaction, but not the concept (of the drool) in its entirety. I guess I just have a higher threshold.
