Not only that but his friends live nearby too so he doesn't have to drown in female problems. Many people would dream to live in his situation. Love Hina was the first series where I first experienced that realization where the manga looked leagues beyond the anime. Ken Akamatsu's art is really good, not incredible but still really good. His style is one that I like looking at every once in a while and he credits his staff all the time for the quality of his work. It's just that as a young /a/utist I couldn't fathom an anime adaption that went out of its way to be really different.
I wanted to like the anime adaption but the style is really generic as far as end of the 90s go, and the adaption favored drama over comedy. What's strange but could have been interesting is that they tried expanding the setting and even side characters that are basically looked over in the manga, but the price is that some of the best scenes in the manga fall flat and those side characters they expanded on are ultimately throwaway-tier anyway. That misguided direction explains why the series ended on a 3 part OVA that cut out the last 3 volumes. It basically ends by adapting Volume 11 and inventing an ending that takes place afterwards. I'm still mad to this day but maybe it's a good thing since I didn't enjoy the anime series to begin with.

I have volumes 1-7 but I never finished up the series. I heard it had a rather mediocre ending. You can definitely see the art style that developed from there and see how it starts to look more and more like Love Hina. At least this series doesn't abuse the main character the way Love Hina does.

A.I. love you came out first in the early part of the 90's. The first couple volumes are a bit rough but as the series progresses you really start to see Akamatsu's style develop.
As far as plot goes it's a typical harem style read. I would say it's more of a slow burn in terms of character introductions though. You don't have multiple girls hanging off the protagonist in the first volume like you do with love hina.

Man... I loved Love Hina's promised girl story aspect in the manga. Trying to figure out who it was and how it would end kept me glued. After learning who it was and seeing it progressed after the revelation ended up pissing me off at how they utterly and completely botched such a potentially great series.
They even do a couple of chapters where they revisit the issue and backstory of the two and I kinda regained some hope as the character and the relationship was strong. But Ken fucks it up and botched the fucking series.
I got so mad I threw away the books after the christmas one and the later issue where they revisit the relationship. I never saw the anime as a result. Love hina could have been great if they didnt railroad keitaro with fuckin Naru. That pairing was stupid aggrivating and cringe. Even if there was another girl pairing, the way they made naru a massive bitch 24/7 killed that series. Love Hina would have made far more sense if they switched the promise girl's attitude and behaviors with naru.

To get one girl to AMS should no longer than 18-19 days depending on your luck with talk events and what you do. Two to AMS (then talking to one to "finish") is an average of 27-28 days. 35-36 days for 3 AMS. 43-44 days for 4 AMS. 52-53 days for 5 AMS. 60-61 days for getting all 6 to AMS.
