All I have is a shower. I haven't been in a bath in almost 2 years.

I shower every night. You'd never get me into a public hot spring or hot tub even if everyone showered before hand. I've worked in pool operation, and hot tubs are disgusting. When getting in a hot tub, peoples pores open up and tons of body oil and skin accumulate into a white foam at the top of the water.

Hopefully the facility is partially draining and filling enough so that the foam doesn't form, but I've still seen it happen after busy stretches. If the foam appears employees will spray it with water, which causes the foam to disappear temporarily. Operation will then continue, though its pretty likely the hot tub would be drained after hours the day the foam appeared.

Hot tubs and public pools are revolting. I would never enter one on my leisure time, let alone pay to enter.

That's normal until your hair adapts to being washed only with water. It's basically addicted to these chemicals, so it needs them just to maintain its normal state. If you stop using them, of course your hair is going to respond negatively, but it does improve over time. At least that was my experience.

For me at least, the success of no-shampooing relies upon the water itself. When I crank the hot water up high, the results are awful - my hair ends up feeling thin and is impossible to wrangle, like I nuked it with shampoo. There's a definite difference you can feel as soon as you turn the water to hot; it feels like something in your hair is melting.

When I turn it down below luke warm, and go as cold as I can tolerate, the results are excellent - I can style easily, it stays put, and it feels a lot fuller. It takes a bit longer and you have to be more thorough, however. You can err on the wrong side and not wash long enough; your scalp should feel itchy after you finish. When this happens I give it a second rinse, or hit it with hot water for a couple seconds, or use a "cleansing putty" (no sulfates, just a bunch of oils and fragrances).

tl;dr: If you don't use shampoo, set the water to cold and rinse thoroughly from scalp to tip.

I've decided to give your advice a try. Only on my third day but I'm actually liking the results. As long as I wash it throughly with just water, it's not getting too oily, and I think it's looking healthier and easier to keep. Let's see how's it's going to be after a week or two, not sure I'll keep following it but seems like good advice.

I keep my hair pretty short though. Not sure if it works for those with longer hair.

I get that. Especially if the setting's a small town, and the space dedicated to the family house has room for at least one big bathroom. Started watching Noein the other day and the way the bathroom in Haruka's house looks seems really comfy. I can see why the show's had a quite a few scenes of her thinking to herself in there (beyond just the nature of "girl in bath" sort of scenes being included in a show, anyhow; the water's heat also causes the silhouette of the Dragon Torque to become visible around her neck). Not real sure I'd want pets coming in with me though, even if they're just going to snooze nearby on the tile. Probably just a factor of what part of the country you live in. Where I am, it's hot enough that water in the tub stays warm for quite a bit, and at least while the sun's up the pipes stay hot. It's not so much running out of hot water to watch out for, but cold water.

I know I've lived in a few houses where they had wallpaper bathrooms. They were all the rage in America from about 1940-1975ish because wallpaper was cheap but looked nice, and water was expected to stay inside the tub area/people didn't take super-hot steam-producing baths/showers (if they bathed/showered at all other than when they were dirty from playing outside) so it wasn't a big deal/you generally only had to replace it every 6-12 years. Post-80s though when steamy showers became the norm, it was mostly used in cold climates where you're expected to have the window open (or at least cracked) while taking a shower to let the steam out, or by landlords who were dicks and didn't want to waste the money on tile. Most showers that do use tile use fake tile where the glue and popcorn ceiling and such is just as prone to moisture as wallpaper is.

Historically throughout the world, public bathing was seen as a means of meeting prostitutes, and you generally had to have mixed bathing because men wanted to protect their women/children at all times (if I remember right). Eventually the Western Churches flat out banned bath houses (Eastern Greek and Russian churches largely kept the tradition of bath houses until Muslims invaded Greece, and the USSR banned bath houses for similar reasons to western churches. Russians still have "saunas" where you cleanse the body and drink vodka with newly made friends and business contracts, but it's not the same thing any more). Give it a few centuries, and the idea of public bathing became sexual since public bath houses, the main means of having public baths, were seen as sexual. Even locker rooms were attacked heavily for homosexual undertones/puritan reasons back in the 80s/90s in Europe and the USA (moreso in the USA, but this goes into a longer rant about circumcision that I'm not gonna start an off-topic discussion about), so now the idea of bathing is seen as gay as fuck unless you went to a private gym as a teen that didn't have individual stalls, managed to live in one of the few areas where it's considered the "norm" due to high military presence and military locker rooms/shower rooms for the sake of eliminating individualism, or were raised among old men who regularly showered/walked around the house naked with their shriveled dick in your face.

Mine have always had tile, or at least the plastic of the tub/shower molded to resemble tiling, and the rest of the room the same material as the walls in the rest of the house (which have never been wallpapered). I suppose it could also be a general factor of how old the neighborhoods even are, and whether anyone bothered to use them in the first place.

No, I stick to sitting in the shower every morning and maybe 1/2 proper baths a year. Also, I strongly advise showering in the morning over night.

Showering in the morning:

Pros: Makes you clean, smell fresh and refreshes you when you're groggy.

Cons: Have to wake up a half hour early.

Showering at night:

Pros: Go to bed feeling relaxed and clean.

Cons: Messy hair, you smell of bed, and 3/10 times you have to shower again anyways because you sweat yourself stupid.

I'll also note that ever since I stopped showering at night, I sweat like...10 times less during the night. Don't know why, it's just an observation.

One time I went so long without showering I forgot my skin is the dry kind not the oily kind.

When I piss I don't shake my dick I just leave it dripping.

After a while my hair gets greasy enough that the strands glue to each other and form thicker strands.

On the rare occasion I shower I can't get the bottom of my feet clean because the dirtyness is multiple skin layers deep.

There comes a point when you get dirty enough you can just peel the grime off like a snake shedding skin, that's my trick for cleaning when I'm lazy. You wet the area, rub your fingers against it until it starts peeling, then you pull the peel for as long as you can even through the dry parts. Whatever makes you dirty never fuses with your skin, just stays over it. If you have a technique like mine and the filth is thick enough you can peel.

In my experience animals will avoid you once the smell of piss burns nostrils (assuming your spirit stench is piss).

Btw your spirit stench is what you smell like once you stop cleaning yourself. I'm piss but I'm also aware of shit, cum, nigger, feet and old people.

you shampoo every 3 days using only a quarter sized amount, rinse. Then you condition using twice as much conditioner or more, let it sit in your hair for at least 5 minutes and then rinse it out. Let your hair dry naturally.

for a manly mane, apply a tablespoon or more of warmed up coconut oil to your hair and massage it into your scalp and let it sit in your hair at least an hour BEFORE you shower.

Also yes, shampoo with heavy chemicals like sulfates are horrible for your hair, dry your hair out making you produce more oil, and create split/dry ends and dandruff.
