2. Demiurge acts alone, he throughly destroys any opposition, and conquers the nation. However he destroys them too hard, fostering deep hate to Ainz and that makes Ainz angry. As Ainz wanted to make conquered nations happy and not just demolish them, Demiurge might have really fucked up here.
I think it's first case, but second case is also likely.

That's pretty plausible. Demiurge should have something like that planned. I just don't think it is the way Ainz would do it. Ainz is still afraid of other players but he did not care that much about diplomacy. As in he would still easily win against combined armies of all continent as long as there are no other players. I think it is almost certain that Demiurge acts completely on his own here and intends to involve Ainz only in the last second. I kinda find it weird that Demiurge does not understand that Ainz does not want everything destroyed. It is against his demonic nature, but Ainz made his wish pretty clear. But so far he didn't do that, sure he blew up the wall (and the gate) but that's about it, killing the soldiers is perfectly ok in Ainz book.
And technically in the capital battle Demiurge didn't even kill anyone (well the guys manning the gate probably) he pummeled the three girls (but didn't kill any) and doing so forced their entire elite forces into inaction.
It's possible his plan is to take the city with actually minimal casualty (given how he was in awe that Ainz vassalized the Empire in a day without killing anyone, that's a very well known thing that the apex of the skill of a tactician is total victory without fighting), just acting very flashy then having Ainz and Momon (Pandora) show up and save the day.
They've bothered setting up a whole backstory that Momon is hunting a vampire (shalltear masked) subordinate of the Demon Emperor, etc...
They could go "Momon petitioned Ainz because he want to fight the vampire" and Ainz fight and subjugate the demon emperor and his demi-humans with ease, forcing the holy kingdom to bend the knee (or at least having a serious debt as allies) since he saved them

I get the feeling that there is a lot of probing into the Holy Kingdom going on here, and that this supposed demon invasion won't be the end of their activities there. Ainz got access to the entire kingdom's geographical information, probed into their ability to understand cryptic text He was clearly probing for skilled people here. I believe that Sebastian used that same monocle to read everything when he was hiding in town with no mana problems, and probed their abilities to see through hidden demons. He also managed to plant some misinformation about detecting hidden creatures. He told the higher ranking people that the voice and memory wouldn't be intact, and he also told them some minor defects of illusions whereas he had told the squire waifu that one should not underestimate illusions. Additionally, he slipped in the idea that demons couldn't change into anyone, but had a single human form they could take. Now that the groundwork has been laid, I think there is going to be a good amount of population replacement going on in the near future. Unless this was all for the doppleganger. I'd have to wonder why he had it infiltrate before establishing all of this in that case.

This actually makes a lot of sense considering that people kept saying that the battle in the holy capital turned her into a completely different person. I'd actually discounted it earlier because I thought the intermission was real and in that Demiurge had said he would kidnap her for talking about using Ainz. I was certain that the demonic text was actually instructions telling Ainz to emphasize the point about demons taking human forms and then find a way to get her to patrol for demons. Demiurge would get a demon to swoop her away, and Ainz would get credit for revealing hidden demons. If she really was the doppleganger, then I wonder why she was choosing to go so against Ainz. Perhaps she is just controlled opposition to make people think the justice of the Holy Kingdom is flawed.
