And don't be surprised, Hollywood has been doing the same with their infinite sequels milking a series.

CGI seems to be fine, but I'm on the fence on the models they've made for the ships. Yang seems a little too sombre in his design and voice feels too young. Reinhardt sounds and looks okay but Kircheis feels off in both. So I expect some neat battles and light to moderate Fujo-bait, but it probably won't be too fucked up.

The character designs are my main point of dissapointment, the original designs, for the male characters anyhow, were very masculine and they were all classically handsome, even Reinhard who was supposed to be beautiful did not look feminine, he looked like a beautiful man not a feminine man. But more important than this the characters were designed to look like the people they were. Yang looked like a lackadaisical family-man whose profession just so happened to be military strategy, Reinhard looked like a legendary conquering hero, especially after he got older and grew out his hair into a great imperial men where his features become sharper and more angular to reflect his growing prowess and the ferocity of his confidence. Kircheiss looked like a kind hearted friend, he had very glear and welcoming expressions, his design was more compact and the darker red of his hair only served to highlight the bright yellow of Reinhards who he was constantly standing beside. The face shapes and features were all varried and finely detailed and you could tell at a glance very easilly who each person was.

What that trailer shows is just generic fujoshit. If you exchanged Yang and Reinhards design in the original it would totally change your perception of each character, if you switched the designs in this remake would you really have that different of an impression?

 No.735543

I hate it. What the fuck did they do to the ships? Reinhard' flagship has some cancer growing in the back. Not to mention Yang Wenli and Reinhard look too similar except for clothes and colored hair. I fear for the story, though I won't be watching this.

They literally have no concept of friendship. They don't look at another human being and think to themselves "I want that person to be proud to know me, I want to be able to serve that person".

There is a point in the epic of Gilgamesh where his greatest friend Enkidu (a friendship born when Enkidu tried to slay Gilgamesh for being a tyrant but after the two exhausted each-other in combat, coming to a perfect draw with neither stronger than the other, they resolved to be best friends until the day they died) comes up to Gilgamesh and tells him that he wants to go on an adventure to the Cedar forest where the monster Humbaba lives where they can team up to slay the otherwise invincible beast. The poem describes Gilgamesh has being brought to tears and crying joyfully that his friend wanted to go and adventure with him. This is how the ancient Mesopotamians wanted to portray their legendary god-hero, they were proud and excited that their hero would express that kind of a deep emotional bond to his best friend. When Enkidu dies (because he and Gilgamesh slut-shamed the goddess of fertility for being a useless whore and she cursed him in reprisal, fucking whores, amirite?) Gilgamesh becomes so distraught at the loss of his best friend he tears out his hear, rips the clothes off his body and leaves the civilized world to wander grief stricken through the wilderness without wealth or fame.

You get similar if less extreme stories of male friendships in the Iliad and Odyssey and even in the Bible. I think I'm rambling at this point. But it's disturbing how completely the deranged amongst us are incapable of understanding what platonic-love actually is.

Then my sister watched and she only thought about shipping the guys and kept saying how gay they were and how she wanted them to fuck.

Men and Women have completely different worldviews, literally seeing the same thing and thinking completely different stuffs about it.

The friendship part is very striking, specially to an oldfag like me who still have the same friends I had when I was 5yo, but who sees that my sister never had any permanent friends and only jumped from one group to another depending on her situation (school, club, university, job) and never retained any of them.

That's not how this shit works. No matter how much brighter the sun is than fire, the fire won't create a shadow.

The only possible explanation would be the debris and smoke in the explosion being SO DENSE that it casts a perfect silhouette of the shape of the blast. Which is not a thing that happens. What we're seeing here is shitty CGI. They have a light source for the scene, the sun. And the explosion effect is a model/texture that isn't coded as a light source itself, so it's blocking their sun. Nobody would ever choose to draw an explosion's shadow unless they were fucking retarded.

And that fucking holographic projection map. THEY DIDNT HAVE FUCKING HOLOGRAPHIC PROJECTORS, THEY DIDNT HAVE ADVANCED COMPUTERS, THIS IS FUCKING WHY THEY DIDNT USE COMPUTERS TO FIGHT IN THEIR STEAD!

It would be fucking ridiculous to assume that they use fucking "2d triangle vs 2d blocks" formations otherwise. This is fucking why they had problems when someone entered their formation in the battle. They could not command a shitload of ships without simple formations, because they used fucking Voice commands to tell subordinates orders so they could tell their subordinates, so they can tell their subordinates what to do in battle, instead of fighting like it is RTS game on a computer screen.

If they had advanced PC, they could just use fucking drones and scatter like crazy all under control of one computer console which would have "attack forward" "hold position but evade" "retreat" buttons. And dog-fighters will just use remote controlled drones to fight.

Half of the fucking plots would be resolved by advanced ship computers. Unless both Empire and Alliance was really fucking committed to use pre ww1 tactics for space combat, because it gives solders more chances for promotion.

AND WHY THE FUCK RANDOM BACKGROUND CHARACTERS LOOK BETTER THAN PROTAGONISTS?

>>736111

You see, explosions in space have a lot of fucking smoke, so it usually block light created by explosion. Like you know, black hole. Ever wondered why they are black? Too much space smoke. And they pack gases right under armor, so smoke could be created to obscure vision of enemy ships.

Oroginal is not perfect in that regard I would never pilot non monochrome-black dog fighter ever. In fact every fucking ship would be painted solid black, even if it obscures from god fighters vision., but for fuck sake, really? Instead of fixing existing problems no way in hell these people will be able to they decide to break some more.

Seeing the LOGH-remake reminds me how many interesting what if-turning points the original LOGH had.

For example, the very first episode and the Battle of Astarte. Let's say that Yang's Gary Stue plot armor fails him right after broadcasting the new tactic. Remnants of the FPA-fleet manage to return home, but Yang and people on the ship he was on all died.

On the FPA-side this causes poor Jessica Edwards to suffer even more which likely makes her start her opposition activity even sooner, perhaps with re-orphaned Julian in tow, especially if Trunicht uses Yang as scapeboat or tries to profit from his death in any way. FPA military might be tempted to launch a coup against Trunicht's government as well as Sitolet, Admiral Greenhill and so many others of the top brass were putting their hopes on now deceased Yang Wen-Li.

Empire side is affected as well as Reinhardt's climb to power becomes so much slower. WIthout Yang FPA is never going to capture Iserlohn, thus the top fleet admirals won't resign. FPA is also unable to launch their retarded zergrush, which means that their position will not become completely hopeless like in canon. Empire's civil war will happen, but Reinhardt has more trouble with lower authority as top brass is not disgraced via Iserlohn. This also removes his early recruitment of Oberstein as the latter will still be serving there.

Another interesting what if-scenario is Reinhardt successfully fleeing to FPA with his sister (and maybe Kircheis, but sense of drama would have the latter enlist to GE navy in order to meet Reinhardt later on opposing side). Reinhard would definitely become second coming of Bruce Campbell at the very least and his dynamics with Yang would be interesting to see. Fighting on the same side but with vastly different philosophies, I do not believe that Reinhard would hesitate to launch a coup to remove worms like Trunicht unless Yang managed to talk him out of it.

So what do my fellow anons think, can you imagine interesting what if-scenarios that help would be better to see rather than the fujobait remake we are going to get?

 No.737009

You posted some interesting ideas, so don't take this observation too personally.

>For example, the very first episode and the Battle of Astarte. Let's say that Yang's Gary Stue plot armor fails him right after broadcasting the new tactic. Remnants of the FPA-fleet manage to return home, but Yang and people on the ship he was on all died.

The "what if plot armor doesn't save him" in a military anime doesn't make much sense. Unless you're looking at a fight with 90% casualty rates, all battles will have many fallen and surviving ones.

Plus it can be applied to the main characters at literally everytime they face danger and whatnot, which will be many more.

And in reverse effect too: What if Kircheis was here, what if Yang was present in final episode still fighting, which of Reinhart admirals would have died additionally.

 No.737028

>>737009

I get what you're saying and I will be first to admit that Yang himself is not even nowhere near the worst offender, if I had to choose one it would be tough call between Julian and Rosenritters. As awesome as the latter are, they really should have died ages ago with how gung-ho their style is. Julian "I can kick Earth cultist ass without eating or drinking anything in few days" is arguably even worse.

I guess what ticks me off about Yang is that he gets things going pretty much perfectly his way on tactical scale right until the story requires him to die. Incompetency of his allies and superiors is always the problem and even his (competent) enemies are forced to act like retards when battling against him ala reconquest of Iserlohn. Reinhard had to deal with his underlings fucking up, but with Yang I cannot honestly remember any moments like that happening as he and his band of underlings are magically always competent.

To me the problem is the way that Yang's plot armor is highlighted far more often than Empire characters whose mortality was shown more consistently in the main series. OVA's though, as awesome as they are do the same shit with Reinhardt and Kircheis as well, but it doesn't grate quite as badly as they are prequels and survival of characters is required. They could have fixed with showing Yang dealing with the consequences of his alcoholism and autism, perhaps have period of sickness as or more serious injury as well that would have shown him recovering like they did with Reinhard.

TL;DR: Yang's optics are consistently too good and consequences of his actions do not really hit him until suddenly Earth Cultist lynching. Even when Jessica Edwards dies Yang just takes it like a bitch and he pretty much forgets her forever after few episodes. With Reinhard his fuck ups won't simply vanish into thin air, making him more human.

 No.737058

>>737028

Reinhard is definitely more "human" than Yang because Reinhard is all about grasping power with his own hands. He struggles and sacrifices to get what he's fighting for, so the story follows him up close. Yang's entire existence is about following the greater arc of history. He obviously cares about individuals but he's always focused on the future, on humanity a thousand years from now. Even though he loved her deeply, Jessica's death just becomes another one of the many regrets he drinks away.

As for Yang's unbelievable skill, the author clearly took inspiration from Zhuge Liang, the ultimate Asian "strategic magician" who was never really understood by either enemies or allies. If anything, Yang is a humanized Zhuge Liang, since the latter is basically superhuman and can never do wrong while Yang is shown struggling and drinking a lot to suppress his feelings. In the end Yang's dedication to history and humanity as a whole is so strong it makes him feel inhuman- he purposefully loses the most important battle of his life (Vermilion) because it would be better for everyone in the long run.

LoGH is presented as a glowing documentary of both sides- it's interesting to think of how a more biased (or grounded, depending on how you look at it) documentary would feel. Anti-GE would make Reinhard a brutal and calculating killer, with Oberstein constantly goading him on to greater evil; it would imply later events with Reuental were set up on purpose to solidify his power base. Anti-FPA would portray Yang as a babbling drunkard who staggers through victories and selfishly generates a cult of personality, plotting and executing Sherwood to maintain his fragile ego.

I think your criticism is fair but actual history is like that in a lot of ways. Looking back on things it's easy to say it all looks like one big ass-pull after the other and that there are things that happen that just don't really make sense or they seem too convenient. Because sometimes they actually are and they work out because the variables involved are so many that blind luck becomes more of a factor for success than any one other actual component of a situation. Is there any reason Alexander the great should have survived his countless battles, countless assassins and even countless environmental hazards in his life? No, it was simply his destiny to march an army across the known world and defeat anyone dumb enough to get in his way and then all of a sudden he gets sick and dies and the whole world is left saying "well, what now" and history moves on. The same thing happened to Genghis Khan and Attila died when he got drunk, got an otherwise innocuous nosebleed and died choking on his own blood. Destiny plays her own game and allots out the roles of each man according to her desires but cruel Fate portions out their inevitable ends to her pleasure and there's really no making sense of it because for those of us on the ground the world just keeps turning on it's axis the way it always has and always will.

I really think these scenarios would only pollute LOTGH original plot, a recurrent theme is that the main characters would act differently if they knew things prior or were in slightly different situations leaving room to extensively discussion to the fans, to actually show these happening when it`s nothing more that a personal interpretation of a random writer about how the main characters would act makes me sick to my stomach. The plot is built like an historic document, I feel it would go against the series essence to change things just for the kick of it, something that happens so much if jap media.

Real time communication during battle regarding strategies was forbidden because the enemy could easily intercept key messages or simply suppress it and drones would be useless since the could not report back information reliably due to constant radio signal interference as they properly explained early in the series. They used multiple small vessels that travel from flagship to flagship to report orders, so in reality all orders had a delay. This explain the importance of capable people in command positions that could read the battlefield and instantly react to enemy movement.

Will it actually be good though? Japan seems to finally be bending the knee to the SJWs (especially with the Olympics coming up). Well, you see they did it when the original show was still airing, or near it I don't remember. So it was covered up by the amazing light of the original so people didn't buy into this shit. But now it has been over twenty years since the airing, so they can do it and possibly make money. Though, its still extremely popular in Japan, as pretty much everyone has at least watched it most read it.

Yang does fulfill the definition of Stu as universe goes out of its way to accommodate him and his flaws have no consequences for him. Also pretty much everyone aside from designated idiots/villains like him.

In hindsight Yang is more of a narrative element that's required to carry the plot forward than genuine Stu despite filling out the definitions, but that still makes him bad as character. For all of the pseudo-realism that space opera like LoGh purports to be and mostly succeeds, Yang sticks out with his lack of humanity in series where relatebility and genuineness of the characters is a driving force. Being a plot device masquerading as character was poor writing, especially as that would have been relatively easy to fix. Kircheis was similar, but unlike with Yang they handled him better. Despite all of the later hype Kircheis still felt like human and flaws & actions had genuine consequences unlike Yang who could bypass everything until plot said that he had to go.

>>741654

You forgot the time he kicked Earth Cultist ass despite going without eating or drinking for days, because of course Saint Julian is immune to biological needs.Or how he can fight along borderline Sue Elite Unit like Rosenritters without problems despite his lack of training. Or how everyone in FPA-remnants blindly follow him and accept him without problems despite him being teenage grunt at best. He's also totally capable attendant/commando/pilot/commander or whatever plot might require him to be at time, with zero effort required. Julian Minci is living proof of Rudolf's beliefs in series that repudiates them as only superhuman space aryan could accomplish the bullshit that he does without being fucking Sue.

 No.741886

>>741862

>universe goes out of its way to accommodate him

No.

>flaws have no consequences for him

No.

A Mary Sue is a character created by the author that is flawlessly idealized either for the purpose of wish-fulfillment or as a deliberate self-insert. Yang satisfies neither of these categories, nor does he embody either of the secondary categories that you put forward. The universe does not go out of the way to accommodate for his flaws. Every attempt of his to remedy the issues of the FPA is met with either fruitless success or outright failure, despite momentary victories. It's more than an issue of idiots/villains, his slavish devotion to a cause and ideal that fails on multiple occasions plays a major role in his ultimate downfall, as both the FPA and his attempted rebellion are undone by forces which he could not control, despite his ability to perceive them and desire to alter them. Additionally, his personal flaws are weaknesses in the context of the plot. His inability to realpolitik makes him unable to alter the political landscape of Heinessen despite his military ascendancy and fame, and his introversion makes him unable to save Jessica. All of the actions that Yang takes are reactions to plot occurrences in service of his own personal ideology, rather than acts taken to further it. If you argue that things coalescing around him in-universe as the story progresses makes him a Mary Sue, then you could easily argue that Reinhard is even more a Mary Sue since it is his outward flawlessness that allows him to become so powerful. Despite his own tactical prowess, Yang's inability to fundamentally change anything in the FPA weighs on him heavily. This is especially clear during the episodes leading up to and during his retirement.

> For all of the pseudo-realism that space opera like LoGh purports to be and mostly succeeds

Now I know you're bullshitting, because you watched a different show than I did. The show was never about "realism," it was an idealized tribute to the military history and political history of the 19th century with a sort of Wagnerian flare to it. Characters both embody and are subjected to their own ideologies, they aren't some kind of meta-narrative mosaic Texhnolyze bullshit. Lack of humanity my ass, Yang was the most human character in the entire show.

You're missing the point. Yang was great because of all of the people around him and all of the people that believed in democracy.

Yang would have lost the next battle due to the loss of key personnel. He had aggressive strategies that required brilliant people in lower level positions.

Yang's is the embodiment of social history created to stand against the "Great man" that is Reinhard while ironically being somewhat of a great man himself. Yang's whole ideology is based around the idea that "the people make history" and his cause surviving him through his staff and millions of soldiers proves him right. However, Reinhard's belief that great men willing to seize the universe makes history is proven by his greatness and Yang's greatness but also disproven by the fact that so many people helped the Galactic Reich become what it was.

No. That's literally because of sexual freedom.

In some of the Slavland places I've been to, the men are much more touchy, which would be seen as homosexuality in the West. Males here would say the same thing that your sister said, excluding the desire to see them making-out. Now any sort of hugging between two male friends is "gay".
