It's just a bad commercial for their shitty card game at this point. They have no fucking idea why people responded to the first season and at this point I'm convinced they've been making shit up as they go since the second cour started, and nobody's character motivations make any sense, especially Chris. The first season was fun to watch because the focus was on building and exploring different parts of the world, as well as a somewhat fun dynamic between the three main characters (and Rita). It actually felt like a complete adventure in 13 episodes, even if the ending got a little out of hand. This season we've spent 2 episodes in a cave, 1 episode flashing back to Jeanne's miracle uterus, 1 episode doing absolutely nothing in a dragon village, and 18 episodes in a boring, dull city where everything looks the same and nothing ever gets accomplished. Then the main cast this time around retains none of the charm that the original cast had. The only dynamic that showed any promise to me was a potential maternal/ paternal love triangle between Jeanne, Azazel and Mugaro but they decided to panic and kill Mugaro so that they could find some excuse to skip to the final battle.
The first season had no right being as good as it was, but there's no excuse for this season to be this bad after they established such a fun world in the first one. Fuck, go back to bounty hunting, go back to demonic possession, go in ==ANY DIRECTION== except a generic fairy tale romance.
