Depends, do you like how CLAMP has fucked up their multiverse with the likes of xxxHolic, Tsubasa Chronicles, etc.? because the sequel will basically connect the original Sakuraverse with their messed up "new" multiverse where Shaoran is his own father or something and all.
Just to give a little more insight, at the beginning the CLAMPverse was Rayearth, CLAMP Detectives, Tokyo Babylon, RG Veda, etc. all with X/1999 at the center, after they decided to not finish X due to possible backlash their stories seemed to take a "standalone" approach, then they decided to screw that and join them into some kind of multiverse where Clow Reed and some Dimension Witch were the masters of said multiverse (oh, I forgot to mention, Mokona was the original allmighty god of the CLAMPverse.)
So RIP Card Captor Sakura's canon, it had a nice closure, but they are going to fuck it up.

The whole CLAMPverse does sound very weird, but at the same time the main appeal of CCS has always been the character interactions and the little details. 99% of the main story is very repetitive, so if they fuck it up it isn't the end of the world. You might be right. I haven't got high expectations, but I find it hard to believe they'd significantly alter Sakura's personality or anything. At worst the plot will go in a really stupid direction and will take all the focus away from the cute SoL stuff, which admittedly would be pretty awful.
If the worst comes to the worst we'll still have the original series, so this can only really be a good thing. It will trigger a new surge of fan art and doujinshi too.

Way back when I didn't know how to download anime (I eventually discovered WinMX), I could only read a synopsis of the second movie that included some screencaps. I don't know how I did this, but I somehow thought that at the end of the movie when Sakura is going to jump to Syaoron, instead of him telling her to wait for the stairs to come back I thought there was a solid wall in that spot. I thought Sakura was tempting fate by jumping on a chance that a wall would reform on her body, and kill her. Esepcially since the screencap had her in the middle of the jump, and I was too stupid to notice the stairs.
I got really sad. I didn't know if she made it.
