When I was five I would occasionally find grainy-ass animations on triple-digit channels. Never kept track of them being five, but I remember there was something fucky going on whenever they showed up.

It feels like such a shame that television will be going the way of the radio soon enough. Maybe I should buy one and check out random channels myself. Television has always been much more regulated than the general internet though, so I guess it makes sense that I never really wasted my time with it.

It's really a shame. Analog was killed in the US on June 2009. You can still try finding the grainy shit though. They usually happened after maybe 2AM (not that I would care about exact time back then) near channels that were only infomercials about jewelry or something.

The animations themselves were, as mentioned, grainy and fairly static. It would cut in suddenly and never had any commercial breaks.

My TV has both digital and analog channel selection, plus very fine picture quality. Has no stereo for VGA unfortunately but that's the case with most small sets for some reason, yet supports surround sound. If you want a TV that can be used as a modern TV and as a white noise machine, look up Durabrand DWT1304. There might be some better options though. This is what I have and you can find used ones on Amazon and ebay, even new ones on ebay. So the price range is $50-$200. Here's a picture from ebay.
