If you have heard or read about Icelandic ghost stories, then you might know about this ghost. If not, here is a brief rundown.

From what I know, he was born sometime in the 18th century, and died in all likeliness after 1783 when the incident called Móðurharðindin happened, which were caused be the volcanic eruption Skaftáreldar. He was near Eyrarbakki in a biting cold blizzard. There was a farmer whom he asked for shelter from the storm. The farmer refused and kicked him out. The now ghost was but a boy when he was found a few days later dead in a ditch.

The boy then became a ghost and was called Skerflóðsmóri, and would haunt the farmers family for generations, and at that time he was also known for killing unsuspecting travellers with another ghost named Móhúsaskotta.

A few generations generations later, he followed the branch of the family that moved to new farm called Kampholt, and would then be known as Kampholtsmóri. It was at the 20th century that he then became facinated by automobiles, something other ghosts had failed to do, and began tinkering with various cars he could get his hands on. The farmer would then in his later years move to Þingdalur.

I spoke of this on another thread on here Þingdalur is the place I‘m visiting tomorrow. This is the last place he resided after it was abandoned. Although it has been abandoned by the living relatives of the farmer (as the mórar only follow families through nine generations), from personal accounts of family members and friends, the ghost still resides there alone.

I will be going with one of my childhood friends over to that place, as some of his close family members have gone to that place and encountered some of the ghosts handywork. I might write down his story in more detail tomorrow in green text format if there is demand for it. We will try to take a few photos of the place, both inside and outside. I can‘t guarentee that there will be anything supernatural on those photos, or that we will encounter the ghost to begin with, but atleast there will be a few hopefully interesting photos of a supposedly haunted place you have probably not heard of before.

Anyways, it‘s getting late now. Will try to update this thread tomorrow if possible. See you guys then.

Ghosts aren't real. Think about the logistics of it. How many people have died throughout human history? The ghost world would be even more overpopulated than the real world, everyone would be getting haunted. Also, what about animal ghosts? You wouldn't be able to make it from the bedroom to the bathroom with out being haunted by a million fly ghosts.

Why do you assume that everyone becomes a ghost after they die?

I know of two instances in the Icelandic Sagas which mention ghosts, one is about a draugr who torments people and turns those he kills into a draugr as well. The other features ghost seals…

If everybody doesn't become a ghost, why would anyone? Either you need to be able to explain how this ghost shit works, or it's just fantasy nonsense. There are serious holes in the idea of ghosts. Like, how are ghosts powered? They don't eat food, they don't drink, they probably don't absorb the suns rays, so where is their energy coming from? And how long does a ghost exist before decomposing?

I don't want to derail the thread, but the most common explanation is that people who die suddenly and tragically (accidents or murder), or people who have ‘unfinished business’ can’t pass on, or are stuck in this world when they die.

You have also the pseudo scientific ‘stone tape theory’ (named after the Nigel Kneale ghost story The Stone Tape made by the BBC in 1972), in which hauntings are non-interactive recordings of past events stored stones, and which can be replayed under certain conditions.

Not said to be haunted, but if you are in the area, this place might be worth checking out.

>The name Berserkjahraun comes from one of the Icelandic Sagas, Eyrbyggja-Saga. According to the saga a farmer brought two berserkers from Sweden to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. He later gave the berserkers to his brother, Víga-Styr, who lived on the other side of the lava field.

>One of the Swedes fell in love with Víga-Styr’s daughter and asked for her hand in marriage. Víga-Styr made a deal with the berserker, he could have his daughter’s hand if the two Swedes could clear a path through the lava field, connecting Víga-Styr’s farm to his brother’s.

>The feat was considered impossible but the berserkers managed to complete the path quite quickly. Instead of keeping his promise, Víga-Styr had the two Swedes killed and buried them near the path.

>Four landmarks from the saga can be found in Berserkjahraun. Those are Berserkjagata, the path itself, Berserkjadys, where the two Berserkers are supposed to be buried, Landamerkjagarður, a boundary fence and Fjárrétt, a sheep den.

Why does he need to explain how ghosts work? Gravity and Hawkings Radiation aren't even understood. Is gravity just a fantasy? How is Hawkings Radiation powered? The particles just warp in and out of existence. How does a ghost decompose?

 No.43322

Well, this was unexpected.

Anyways I regret to inform you all that there was unfortunately a change of plan. The weather has been shit for this whole week and I was hoping that it might die down today. Unfortunately this did not happen. On top of that is the fact that my friend wasn't able to come.

Sadly, the trip to the farm must be suspended for now. Hopefully we will be able to go within the next two weeks. In the meantime, if you have questions regarding Icelandic ghosts I'd be happy to answer them.

 No.43323

>>43311

Both of the replies you sent are completely irrelevant, but I'll answer your questions.

>If everybody doesn't become a ghost, why would anyone?

>how are ghosts powered?

You could think of ghosts as the manifestation of the willpower of a being. If said being has enough willpower, it might become a ghost. It can also happen if something happened to you, and if it creates a strong frame of mind you get at your death (hatred against your murderer for instance), you might manifest again as the personification of that mindset you had. In Icelandic folklore, with enough willpower sorcerers were able to make ghosts (not just resurrect spirits, but create them) as the manifestation of whatever frame of mind they had. As to how the ghosts are powered, they get created by the reasons mentioned above, but they also get powered by the same reason. The stronger willpower or frame of mind they had at their death (or if conjured by a sorcerer, the stronger willpower and frame of mind it's creator had), the longer they are sustained. But in the end it degenerates over time, and eventually fades away.

>And how long does a ghost exist before decomposing?

In Icelandic folklore, a ghost that haunts a family usually follows them for nine generations until he fades away permanently. This is not always the case since there is at least one ghost that has been around for a few centuries.

OP here again. I'm sorry I (again) wasn't able to give an update on this place. Last week my friend couldn't come with me, but I still went to the place. I used a disposable camera that I have to take to a photo studio to take the photos out, and I unfortunately didn't have the time to do it (I still don't). I also just took about 4 photos since I got such overwhelming negative sensation when I approached the place that I bolted away as fast as I could (I didn't even leave my car.) As such I couldn't give a good update back then so I just

Last night, my friend was finally able to visit that place, so we planed to go the place and take a few photos. We managed to take a bunch of photos, but there is very little paranormal about them, I think. I'm going to make a new thread dedicated to the photos.

Thing about the lamb though, there aren't any sheep around that place, and it should be impossible for any sheep to even come there in the first place, let alone a single lamb. I don't know how it ended up there, but this has happened before a few years back when my friend's mom was hiking around that place. He thinks that happened in a different building though.

I want to ask you guys, is it possible for skin and wool to not be completely rotted away after about a decade? I'm no expert on that subject, but I'd think that at least the skin should be completely rotted away.

The following photos are of the main house. The house and the property in general has been abandoned and unused for a few decades, and it has always had a eerie and uncomfortable atmosphere around it by most peoples accounts. We are the first to enter the house in a years, and the last people who entered had a much worse experience than we did. They disrespected Kampholtsmóri, and he made sure that they knew his presence. I don't know the whole story, but all of their electronic equipment shut down or got ruined.

We didn't encounter him ourselves, or at least I don't think so. I'm quite adept at feeling a nearby presence, whether they are dead or alive, and I couldn't feel any strong presence whilst within the house itself.

There were two floors in the house, but my friend took just one photo whilst upstairs. The reason for that is because the second floor had no stable floor, and there was a big hole where there was once another set of spiral stairs that led up. We didn't want to walk over to the other side of the room because of this, so there is one unexplored room in the house.

>Maybe you were really being watched… by some kind of animal, and those are its eyes

It didn't feel like an animal was watching us. It felt like -someone- was watching us and then followed us to our car. I don't know how to describe it better.

And about the orb, I still find it strange that the orbs were at the exact same location as the thing in the picture. I feel it in my gut that there is some connection, I just know it.

UPDATE

I think I made a mistake when I brought the book with me. I feel like there is someone in my car, in the trunk where I put the book.

>When I got home tonight, parked the car and was walking towards my home, I heard some tapping noises from the car, like someone was tapping on the car with bare fingers.

>A few hours later I went to my car to fetch my phone (I had forgotten inside it.)

>For some reason the rear window was really steamy whilst all the other windows were clear.

>I checked on other cars around to see if the same applied to them.

>Some of the other cars were wet with rainwater, but they didn't have the same steam that was on my car rear window and I could still see rather clearly through them unlike with my car.

This might be just a coincidence, so I won't say that this was caused by anything paranormal. What I did find strange though, was when when I went to check the window the car suddenly locked itself. I didn't do anything, I didn't try to open any door or do anything with the car keys. It just locked itself, by itself. This has never happened before so this startled me a bit.

Do you guys think the ghost followed me and has taken residence in my car, using the book as some sort of anchor?

You should talk to the anon in the other thread with the shadow problem.

They might have written in a diary that they are troubled by ghosts, or told friends/family about it, and there would of course the ectoplasm found on the scene of the crime.

If it is using the book as an anchor, burning it would keep it from following OP though, wouldn't it?

HPL did something similar; he chipped off a bit of an ancient gravestone and put it under his pillow in the hopes that it would affect his dreams.

My thinking is, what if it isn't anchored to the book but instead the car. In which case burning a treasured item might worsen things. Sage for doublepost

Well, not at the time my friend and I did, but I have driven all the way up to the house before with my girlfriend. When we did drive up to it we both got an intense panic feeling, like we was not welcome, so we bolted away as fast as we could.

And about two years ago my dad drove with me to the place.

Jolly good! That could become an interesting read for sure. Be sure to keep something to write with and on within reach if you do try it.

<On September 16, 1922, Lovecraft toured the Flatbush Reformed Church in Brooklyn with his friend Rheinhart Kleiner, writing about the visit in a letter:

<Around the old pile is a hoary churchyard, with internments dating from around 1730 to the middle of the nineteenth century…. From one of the crumbling gravestones–dated 1747–I chipped a small piece to carry away. It lies before me as I write–and ought to suggest some sort of horror-story. I must place it beneath my pillow as I sleep… who can say what thing might not come out of the centuried earth to exact vengeance for his desecrated tomb? And should it come, who can say what it might not resemble?

Raija is on the run again - from state power, herself and their feelings. Everything she has to abandon. Her constant point in life is now Mik'kal and his love and warmth. Together with little Ailo they are on their way to Finland, towards Tornedalen. Raija wants to return to her childhood home before it's too late. It will be a long way over the mountain scenery, but eventually they reach the Tornedalen - the beautiful landscape lies in front of them in the summer night. But from the woods follow a few dark eyes every step they take. The eyes belong to a person who has burned all the bridges - who only have a clear thought - revenge …

The ghost was, at least at a time, a vengeful ghost who haunted the Eiríkur of Stéttum at Stokkseyri, and all of his descendants for at least nine generation.

UPDATE

Ok, where do I begin. So, on monday I decided to go to the house and return the book and my girlfriend wanted to go with me.

>The thick steam was still on only the rear window.

>When I turned on the car the engine started to run like an old tractor. You know, it's feels like the engine is just going to blow up when you start it.

>The headlights were also flickering and the car was shaking because of the engine. The car has never done this before, and it hasn't done this since either.

>So, when I got to the place my girlfriend started hearing a wooing voice near her. This spooked her quite a bit.

>At the house I did feel a very slight presence, not like I'm being watched but more like someone was listening to me.

>I placed the book back to where I took it. Then, I went to the spot where the eyes were, and saw that there was nothing there.

>On my way to the car I told the ghost that he has no business here anymore, he has to move on, and that I hoped that next time I will come that he will be gone.

>When I got home, the steam on the window disappeared.

So guys, I don't think that it would be wise to bother the ghost anymore with any "ghost hunting". I will not stop my friends from doing it, but I will not be the one to take part in it. This maybe sounds stupid, but I am making an amulet made of bull horn and I intend on giving it to him as a present, I have never performed Icelandic sorcery before, but I hope that this will lay him to rest.

I was also intending on performing astral projection and go to the place to talk with him like that, but I don't know how to do it. If anyone has tips on how to do it, it will be much appreciated.

It looks great anon! I thought maybe you could improve it with a Galdrastafir if you really want to use sorcery? I thought anything trying to restrict/entrap/bind the Kampholtsmóri is wayyyyy too risky so I drew this one. I am not an expert with these but this one is very simple and is thought to mean "Good Sailing". I know the Kampholtsmóri does not travel by sea but it's close enough to "safe travels" and the Kampholtsmóri seems to enjoy his road trips. A good luck charm basically, as a gift.

What do you think about this idea?

Might be a good idea. If I put my mind into it I can wood carve alright. I have never carved into a bull horn before but from what I have heard it's very similar to medium hard wood.

Folklore is the only thing I know when it comes to these things, and what little I know of sorcery using those sources is on how to resurrect a ghost from a grave, but that is something I don't want to perform any time soon.

UPDATE

Alright, this thread might be dead but I have decided to give a small update, as I was (again) going over the photos and saw something (again). Or rather, I had seen it before but payed no attention to it because I just assumed it to be either a raindrop or a reflection of some sorts.

This is the pic I'm talking about.

So, I think you can all clearly see the rainbow "orb" thing (I won't assume that this is an orb though and I'm still skeptical about it). I thought at first that this was some sort of a reflection. A few days ago (just before Christmas) I went to the place where a saw the 'eyes' to see if there was some glass or something there that could give a reflection. It just so happens that the attic window in this picture is situated right above the place where I saw the 'eyes.' And it just so happens that both me and my friend saw an orb around that area. If the thing in this picture is an orb, then it would match the look and size of the orb that I saw. I don't know if my friend saw it the same way as I did, but I'm waiting for an answer from him and I will post what he said when I get his answer.

Thing is though, this might be a glitch of some sort and I can't rule that possibility out since I didn't take the photo and neither do I own the camera with which the photo was taken. I also asked my friend if he might know if this is a glitch, and again, when I will post his answer when I get it.

cont.

I will say this though.

This anomaly is probably not on the lens itself, and neither is it inside the house. When I edited the colors and brightness to see whether that was the case, I saw that this was clearly outside the house. So it can't be anything at least inside the house imo.

Interesting, I'm certainly not familiar with all the ways a camera can malfunction, but is there any camera trick which would form a perfectly circle while leaving the central "post" of the window unaffected like that? The only possibility I could think of would be refracted light coming from both panes on either side of the post, this avoids the discoloration which should have happened if it were a lens problem.

>>43311

 No.44510

>The only possibility I could think of would be refracted light coming from both panes on either side of the post

indeed, but the thing is though, there was nothing with a reflective surface there, nor anything that could refract light like that. There was no glass in either the window or the ground below it. So I don't think that this could be a refraction.

But who knows, perhaps a raindrop somehow perfectly refracted the light from the flash and made this perfect sphere. But, this explanation feels inadequate, at least to me.
