Is media being used to control us? Is it an opiate of the masses? Are movies bad for your mental health? Is pop music bad for you?

I have a theory that Snapchat and Instagram are somewhat being exploited to control the masses, along with popular rap artists and streaming services like Netflix. Has anyone tried disconnecting from things like Hulu or Spotify?

What happens when you don't consume music or movies? I've considered reading just books. I do have a computer, but I'm largely considering disconnecting it from the internet. I even have a smartphone, a OnePlus 5t. I've thought about turning everything off on it, or just selling it. On the flip side, I fucking love PCs and Linux. I love messing with code. Unfortunately, a PC can serve as a conduit for movies, music and games.

Is there any research on how media effects the brain?

There's nothing inherently wrong with watching movies and listening to music, so long as you can think for yourself and are not afraid to challenge the mainstream perspective. Of course, if you're that kind of person, you probably won't enjoy most modern movies and music anyway. But there's some good stuff out there if you have the patience to look for it.

To answer your first question, yes, mass media are both a distraction and a tool used by the elite to establish whatever narrative they like. I remember reading about a study, years ago, which found that television screens had the power to change a person's brainwaves in a way that made him more susceptible to suggestions…

We perceive reality 2-dimensionally, because we are 4-dimensional beings. That's why we can mistake television with reality, and I don't mean that lightly, television is a portal to an alternate reality which is intentionally constructed to fill your unconscious with subliminals, this can range from wanting us to consume cigarettes and it can even become the architecture of our deep thoughts, the structures of ideology are formed through the repetition of messages repeated in media.

This is why the concern of Derrida was literature, he thought it was heavily important to analyse literature within it's internal logic, to remove our bias when reading and to look at a text as it's own object. We then can see the invisible motions of ideology crafting together a book, and this is the foundation of criticism, to interpret a text on it's own terms and to thus come to a place of independence from the subliminals, you will notice that a lot of schizophrenics look extremely deep into fiction and relate it to reality, they say that their "tv is talking to them", they're completely correct, television is a language, and all languages are deceptive in nature, which is why they have magickal properties, but television can mask as reality since it possesses the form of 2-dimensions. This is also why television will literally hypnotise/possess children and adults.

I have experience of using my imagination as an adult but these unconscious patterns received as a child recurring, especially in relation to children's media, which is why I look at all children's media suspiciously now, they hold the power to survive within you, if the world ended today, these films would still exist. So now that you have the basics of the magick of media, you can see it's majesty, but you still need an open mind to challenge it's messages.

I don't have a television nor a computer, only my phone, but i don't have the internet at my home, so i download stuff when I'm out and then listen to it later, mostly music and podcasts. I hope to get rid of this phone too and replace it with one that doesn't track you at all times.

All media has bias, you just have to recognise it.

Since the frog revolution all media is biased, even books.

I can’t sit through films nowadays I’m burnt out by them I used to love film, I had a huge collection I threw it all away after I went through film school and realized all the tricks. All mainstream media forms are sick tbh. It’s stains your soul and ruins your imagination. The majority of damage has already been done so it’s your choice to carry on. I’d recommend sticking to YouTube watching old dramas or documentaries or any channels under 100k subs.

I don’t watch tv at all for the last 5 years when I do it’s freaks me out. The way they talk and the messages they push are alien to me. Avoid tv at all costs it’s easily the worst media form by far.

Video games are bad now too but luckily this is only recent pre 2007 when the cost were lower there was a lot more creative freedom and less sinister manipulation but it’s not healthy sitting playing games for more than 30 mins it says this in the warnings for a reason. Try just to play games that revolve around dexterity like platformers etc these are good for your mind and reflexes. It’s not good to be virtually killing people online I think that fucks with people more than we are told.

I don’t use app like Instagram but I know for a fact they are designed under a dopamine drip system to keep you hooked avoid them completely there is reall studies that show they are bad for you.

Everything in moderation basically. Easier said than done in this sick world

That makes sense. I'm trying to come up with a scheduling system of some kind. On these days, I'm allowed these time limits on this device. It's going to be extremely difficult to stay away from my PC, but skipping TV/movies won't be hard.

Music will be somewhat tough, but I feel like if I listen to instrumental stuff like jazz, classical and ambient, I'll probably be okay. We should all come up with a list of things that are bad for mental health. I know I'm on a computer talking shit about it, but I feel like this is one of the few ways I can communicate with a bunch of people on the subject. I think TV is probably the worst, with movies possibly tied and pop music a strong third. I'd avoid music videos completely, especially shit like Lil Pump. I think the only music good for listening to that isn't harmful would be something like IDM, ambient, jazz, instrumental and classical/neo-classical. Synth instrumentals are probably fine too, like dark synth, vaporwave, etc.

I'm going to avoid rock, metal, rap, hip hop, country and pop. I feel like those are the most harmful genres, though there may be a few exceptions.

Now that I think about it, I'd say phone apps might be the first place, followed by TV, movies then music. Books, I think for the most part, are probably good, save for propaganda, but even that it forces you to think. I'd avoid teen-reads completely.

What should be the daily limit of gaming? I'd say around one hour is fine. I think exercise and reading should be what you do the most, next to a couple hobbies. I make electronic music and I write, so I think that is covered.

Should YouTube be completely avoided? Everything seems like clickbait now.

>>42663

I would avoid TV completely, other than perhaps some idle watching while you're having lunch/dinner. At best, it's a massive waste of time; at worst, it's blatant agenda pushing by some group or another. Gaming is fine, I think, if done in moderation; if you feel it's making your life better rather than worse. I get the feeling that a lot of people use videogames as a way to distract themselves from real-life problems they don't know how to fix, though.

Youtube is great in my humble opinion. Yes there's a lot of trash, but there's a lot of everything. Whatever your interests are, you can probably find some good content on YT. For example, if you're interested in fitness, there are lots of interesting/useful channels for that.

Passing thought. What happens to the mind when you begin to avoid most media consumption? I'm curious to see how I'll react with a complete lack of television and film.

Does anyone have experience with cutting out entertainment cold turkey?

 No.42720

>>42679

I think it depends entirely on the individual, his character, his life, the reason he's avoiding media, etc.

>>42718

You don't have to do it that way, just try to become more selective with your media consumption.

 No.42721

>>42720

Do you think there'd be negative consequences to doing it this way?

 No.42745

>>42718

Yes. Unless you have something to do instead of consuming entertainment, you will become bored very quickly, I like to go into nature and meditate in isolation, I hate human distractions in the bliss of night.

If you have friends, you could spend time with them too, one thing you will notice is that time will be experienced more slowly. If you can get hooked up with drugs, this is good too.

There's no negative physiological reaction to withdrawal, if that's what you were curious about.

I'm half curious to see how this actually works when no entertainment is consumed at all.

I think the media is absolutely being used to influence and/or control the consumers of it.

I also believe TV is one of the worst offenders of this. The most obvious examples to me being news stations and children's shows, especially those created for younger children and toddlers. After just watching a few minutes of certain children's shows it feels like there is a weird almost brainwash like tone to it, but that could be just me looking too much into it.

As for movies I think they aren't too far behind the stuff you see on TV. At least in more recent years since there seems to be fewer original/interesting concepts and more of franchises and ideas being beaten to death (whether it be through pointless reboots, or just useless sequel after useless sequel, etc.). Although lesser known films most of the time, in my experiences at least, have been good. My favorites being those that don't hand feed you every single thing about the plot and world the movie is in and force you to think and figure things out for yourself. I can give an example later on if needed to clarify what I mean by that.

A lot of pop music that I've heard these days kind of reminds me of the "bubblegum" music from the 60's, but more modern. The lyrics seem so shallow, just song after song about breakups, drugs, and violence with little to no substance. I don't normally listen to pop music so this is based on the little bit I've heard. Other genres of music tend to feel similar, a great example being country. Country also has a lot of that "bubblegum" type lyrics where it's all just surface level love, breakup, and party songs.

Your theory of social media being used to control the masses is very true, in my opinion at least. The worst being Facebook and Twitter. They are just cesspools of people repeating the same ideas and thoughts that celebrities, big companies, news companies, famous internet personalities, etc. are putting out there without taking a moment to think logically about things first. Most people who go against or question some of these things tend to be attacked, criticized, or some for of banned from said social medias. The opinions and other stuff being circulated and believed on social media then starts to trickle into other forms of media like music and shows.

 No.42887

>>42886

Actually, now that I think about it more the worst offender when it comes to controlling it's consumers is social media. I don't know how I didn't think of that when writing the previous response.

The worst ones in my opinion are Facebook and Twitter. Both are just cesspools of fake content ( news, videos, stories, pictures, etc.) and unoriginal thoughts being circulated and repeated without people stopping for a minute to actually read what they see and think logically about things. Then there's also all the political agenda stuff that people post about and try to push upon others.

Then all this stuff you see on social media starts to trickle into other forms of media. The same things you saw on whatever social media you use starts to show up on television shows, radio shows, and in songs. Which then makes it back to social media if something controversial happens, creating a vicious cycle.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining this well, but hopefully you get what I'm trying to say

 No.42903

>>42887

I'd put social media at the top, followed immediately by video and music, specifically television and pop/rap. With social media I include things like Instagram and Snapchat and Youtube.

I'm considering de-Googling my life, but this is going to be extremely difficult, so I might just limit it to only my smartphone. I'm still not sure how I'm going to figure this one out.

Are there any books about this topic? Abstinence from mass media, or how social media controls people?

most music is completely fucked

Juice Newton's 1981 "Angel Of The Morning" has some freaky lyrics.

and check out these lyrics. the global elite cult is obsessed with the pentagram. "star"

the music we listen to has some really messed up lyrics. you should read the lyrics of alot of your music and get rid of the songs that strike you as fucked up.

>her finger and her thumb In the shape of an "L" on her forehead

lucifer sign

>Fed to the rules and

didn't want to listen to God

>I hit the ground running

hit the earth because sent out of heaven

>Didn't make sense not to live for fun

>So much to do, so much to see

>So what's wrong with taking the back streets?

now satan is running around the world trying ot have fun "taking the back streets" and doing things the evil way

>You'll never know if you don't go

>You'll never shine if you don't glow

Lucifer "the morning star" "light bringer" "shine" "glow" and so on

>Hey, now, you're an All Star, get your game on

"all star" pentagram.

references to encouraging people to play "the game" like get a job, have a car, pay taxes, get insurance, go to school, work everyday, worry about your future, always work, always worry, never be happy.

>And all that glitters is gold

satan basically saying worship money and be shallow and to not look at anything beyond the surface and be ignorant

>Only shooting stars break the mold

rebelling against God

>It's a cool place and they say it gets colder

hell freezing over, because earth is hell

>But the meteor men beg to differ

>Judging by the hole in the satellite picture

this one is funny and has multiple meanings, one of them being checking the t.v. news for the weather report.

>The ice we skate is getting pretty thin

>The water's getting warm so you might as well swim

oxymoron about how hell is either an endothermic or exothermic reaction

>My world's on fire. How about yours?

obvious

>That's the way I like it and I'll never get bored.

satan having fun fucking with everyone

Keep in mind that satan isn't real, just stupid people like the gobal elitists who think they rule the world worship a false religion to rebel against God.

God holds all the power and is the only God.

How do we detox from this crap? It influences your mind. When I visualize something, or think about how something will play out, it looks like a movie in my head. Before I was ever introduced to a film, would I internally visualize stuff like that? As if everything were a movie?

https://psychneuro.wordpress.com/2016/04/26/how-movies-control-your-mind/

>Neurocinematics is a recent field that explores how our brains respond to movies. Uri Hasson, a neuroscientist who has dedicated much research to this field and who now works in Princeton University’s Neuroscience Institute, uses fMRI and inter-subject correlation (ISC) to determine how similarly an audience’s brain reacts to films and thus how well a film is able to control its audiences’ brains. For example, when subjects were placed in an fMRI machine while watching a 30 minute clip of “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly,” Hasson and his colleagues found that 45% of the viewers’ neocortex had high ISC. This included areas involved in primary sensory perception, such as visual areas in the occipital and temporal cortex, Heschl’s gyrus, Wernicke’s area, some limbic areas, the fusiform face area and some association cortex. However, viewers’ brains had low ISC among areas such as the supramarginal gyrus, the angular gyrus and areas in the prefrontal cortex.

what sucks is disconnecting from tv, movies, zoomer shit like spotify and instagram, etc also disconnects you from other people.

The longer I go without watching movies, tv and normalfag stuff, the more detached I feel. not in a "im so much more cultured than you lol" way, but its like speaking another language and of course all their references mean nothing to you. I hear normalfags talking about "john wick" a lot for some reason, I have no idea what that is. Probably some cape shit or a star wars character, its all the same thing. I dont even look at TV or listen to radio for news. if I dont hear someone telling me personally or read it on 8pol, I dont know about it. Id like to say its comfy, but it really isnt. Its just too painful to look at media crammed with so much obvious propaganda. If the masses didnt watch and listen to endless propaganda, our political climate and how people interact with each other would be very different. Hell, Id go so far to say even a power blackout that prevents most people from recieving their programming and opinions would start to change them in a matter of a few days.
