I was considering living off the grid recently, I'm pretty detached and I don't care about my family. The idea of getting away from society and going /k/ inna woods in a bunker. I know what I would need to supply myself with consistant clean water and decent internet power and a/c. I plan to grow my own food and herb. Hydroponic systems are pretty easy to set up and maintain. But what could I expect in a decade long journey into solitude? I do plan to live on my land not just in a hole. What could I expect from Big Brother and society itself when I come out? Do I keep up with society through "The media" for news on a tv running all day?

How do I keep my mind healthy I suppose?

A decade without any sort of human contact would probably make you go insane. It has been shown that solitary confinement literally gives prisoners brain damage after just a few months. If you really want to do this, I suggest that at least once a week you break your self-imposed solitude and talk to someone.

How much money do you have for this? You're talking about a high price investment here.

To keep my mind healthy, I would probably just meditate or do other fringe activities. I don't know what you're into, but you could listen to music, paint pictures, weave wool, carve wood, or blacksmith. (careful not to injure yourself with blacksmithing by always wearing safety glasses and if needed a mask)

You don't need a TV, but the internet will be useful for information you'll need.

I have no idea where society will be in a decade but you should be fine if you move your way into a small town before jumping into the city.

Prisoners are a poor example because they are in a cell and possibly messed up to begin with to get there in the first place. But I've heard a similar thing happens to Alaskan homesteaders that can go a long time without human contact, which mainly occurs during winter. Something about seeing blankets of white snow everyday does something to people more than summer woodland.
