Automatons. Statues. Golems. Robots?

Throughout the world the idea of the lifeless taking on life is well known and often scoffed at. Yet unlike myriad other paranormal phenomena there have been countless reports of experiences, from many cases by credible sources, by mass groups of people, and even caught on camera. Their actions tend to be rather uneventful - a quick movement of the head, the eyes blinking, pupils following you around the room, a tear falling down a cheek - which is no doubt why interest in such happenings is rather low.

However the simple possibility that the lifeless can be animated has terrifying implications. What if they gain the ability to move to greater extents? What if they can be used as vessels by demons or aliens? What if, when out of the eye of the public, vengeful automatons murder and torment those who were never able to get their messages out?

… And could this phenomena perhaps be behind why many of the more prominent faiths advocated the destruction of idols?

>the embedded video features several interesting clips that appear to show statues moving. It is one of those typical 'click bait' youtube shows where they tend to show something that looks like nothing at all, or else it is incredibly suspect and almost certainly something made on photoshop or similar video-editting software. The first video shows a buddah which to me looks like it is your typical clickbait nothingness - however the later videos show statues of Jesus moving his head, showing a statue of a creepy Snow White blinking, and show a statue of the Virgin Mary moving. To me they seem more credible than usual due to the reactions of those filming and those around them. I would recommend possibly skipping the first one, and at least checking out the Snow White clip before disregarding it all. Even if this video is all crap - there is much more evidence and a lot to discuss about this fascinating subject. Please share any experiences you may have had too.

That's a very interesting and original thought. I've always assumed that the forbidding of idols was for theological or privacy reasons.

Personally, I think the idea of animated statues comes from ancient robots rather than enchanted blocks of stone, but I could be wrong of course. There are many accounts of automatons in ancient times. If you're interested in exploring this subject, I highly recommend the book 'We are not the first' by Andrew Tomas (chapter 17, page 156). It talks about the possibility that some modern technologies have simply been rediscovered, one of which would be robots and computers.
