Why didn't you listen?
Virus is latin for Venom. Hideo Kojima correctly surmised that the one weapon to surpass Metal Gear and bring the world to its knees, would actually be one tiny little virus. But you dismissed the idea because you really wanted just a bigger mecha, and parasites were unusual and unfitting.
The world dies because we learned nothing.

The Japanese suck at designing mechs. They're almost always flimsy and carry a big sword and are somehow able to travel very quickly through space and land alike. The only good looking Japanese mecha are Transformers. Besides that, the West outdoes them every time. Pic very much related.

A piece of entertainment doesn't need to be perfect or even good to be worth experiencing, even if you want to say MGS5 is objectively not good due to clearly not being finished, but releasing anyway, that doesn't mean nothing of value can be gained from examining it.
If you only look at what is deemed by consensus to be "Good Games" then you'll only really learn what you've been told is good, might be good. but a flawed game can teach you far more about what actually makes good games, good, and bad games, bad.
a "Bad games" missed potentially, can inspire great ideas, and Good games can still have missed potential, if they forgot or ignored something important that worked in the past.
I'm glad to have cared enough about games before to have felt them disappointed me, since it make me appreciate the truly great games that much more.

I don't think it's a question of avoiding the shot, it's a matter of enduring it. Take a mech like >>16874609 these and give them the blast protection of a tank. If somehow humans were able to create a hydraulic system fit for maneuvering a mech and could travel at a fairly good speed, they'd actually be worth mass producing over tanks. Probably wouldn't work though because you have to sacrifice mass for speed, and if you sacrifice mass you have less protection.

Not bad but even a Tau mech surpasses that.
>>16874692
That's why the answer is not mass producing and simply making each one-by-one. Also, the answer is making each mech and/or tank a fortress. No matter how mobile you make something, it'll end up being more vulnerable the quicker they are. So if you sacrifice most of all speed in favor of power and armour, you can't really fight back unless you have something of similar size or something that can somehow crack the armor or find a weakpoint, but a good engineer allows for no weakpoint
tl;dr Basically a Baneblade or a Titan, either one is the apex of ground-ground combat

Modern armored ground vehicles have two major problems.
1. they aren't well armored for attacks from above, making them easy prey for helicopters and other aerial attack platforms
2. they typically have limited arcs of fire, also being vulnerable from attacks from above
Mecha theoretically are able to adequately respond to both of the weaknesses that other ground vehicles suffer from. The big detractor of mecha though is that cruise missiles are just too OP, anything that can be targeted can be destroyed, and it in all likelihood will until anti-missile lasers active defenses get developed, miniaturized and put on everything.

Well your first point is why mechs have support from other forces like anti-air missiles launched from battleships on a coastline, or mobile vehicles equipped with anti-air missiles. The mech isn't supposed to be the apex war machine that can deal with every threat unless it's literally a Gundam.

The first 2 are WW1 (read as airplanes don't exist as an actual threat), while the tracked one has a mast specifically for AA.
Also battleships are incredibly tough and can output a stupendous amount of damage, their Achilles heel is that they have to float (pretty much every win for airplanes against battleships is that they sink em rather than actually destroying them, and even that takes hundreds of planes) take that away and they get really scary.

I really like the Battletech design iterations from the era between the earliest Robotech ripoff days and the more modern "we need everything to be angular and over designed." They went through a phase that was, in my opinion, a very cool mixture of Western and Japanese design. They had a sleekness that the modern designs and video game interpretations don't have but were differentiating themselves from Robotech and Macross.

>>16874730
>Modern armored ground vehicles have two major problems.
>1. they aren't well armored for attacks from above, making them easy prey for helicopters and other aerial attack platforms
Not a single 1st or even 2nd world military cares about this, because mobile anti-aircraft exists. This is only an issue when you send tanks into urban environments and they get shot constantly from rooftops. But once again the white man found a solution: Don't be a retard who sends tanks into cities.
2. they typically have limited arcs of fire, also being vulnerable from attacks from above
A tank's arc of fire is excellent, with the exception of trash like the T90 which can't depress it's canon. The average modern battle tank can go hull-down and fuck you up from 2 miles away.
>>16874807
>Also battleships are incredibly tough and can output a stupendous amount of damage, their Achilles heel is that they have to float
Battleships were outdated even in WWII. Submarines and missiles make them floating targets. Even aircraft carriers despite the stupid amount of media hype, have to rely 100% on a massive protection fleet in order to avoid getting sank in seconds. Missile boats and destroyers are where it's at. And of course submarines.
Pic related, objectively the best main battle tank ever made. Unmatched 360 degrees protection from all RPGs, ATGMs and IEDs known to man. Another tank WILL kill it frontally with SABOT, but we got APS for that. A retard tall clunky mech would get sniped by this thing from 2 miles away.

I've always found military debates about mecha tiresome. We have no idea how good it could theoretically be until we see it in a practical test. Fucking Greekoids thought they had the greatest, most un-defeatable formation with Hopolites and look how far it got them. Chariots were seen as OP and they're well regarded now as being highly impractical. There is always something that will eventually come to crush our idea of "good".
