The plot is a 2deep4u mishmash of completely misunderstood ideas that make no sense and are internally inconsistent. The last 3 or 4 cutscenes of the game could be exchanged for a webm of Levine staring into camera saying "WOOOOO" for the duration and it would be exactly as valid an ending to the game.
The game was bouyed by a million and one idiots, including the entire gaming press, thinking they were all big-brain buggars because it was so deep and complex. Like Rick and Morty fans saying only intelligent people "get it." Which was hilarious because it just shows that they are so stupid they don't know how stupid they are.
Further compouned by the fact that the game treats you like a mongoloid idiot throughout the duration. The mechanics are about as complex as a flash game for three year olds.
The vast majority of the game is an escort quest. They couldn't get the AI to work right so they just made the bitch you escort both immortal and invisible to enemies. The enemies main goal throughout the entire game is to capture the bitch. They will walk past her to punch you.
The game was marketed on an E3 demo reel that was entirely bullshit. The bitch was more attractive, but during development they realised that they would have to get the player to care about her mostly through character design, so they gave her bigger eyes and more childish proportions. There were mechanics and story elements which were just abandoned wholesale for being too hard to impliment.
Theres something about a ghost boss fight in a graveyard. Other anons will be able to explain better, as it's been a while for me, but I remember it being potentially unwinnable or broken or something. Really bad design.
The plasmids and voice recordings are just put into the game despite them making no sense thematically. The devs were too lazy to write them into the setting or think of a new way of imparting information or giving the players powers. Plasmids are also just straight copies from the previous game, with some being straight downgrades.
No enemies use plasmids. Except I think two special bosses? The enemy design and variety is piss poor throughout. But no worries, because combat is awful and weapon designs are terrible. You can only hold so many guns, but there is an upgrade system. You will invest in a gun, then find a better gun and be presented with the choice of either wasting all your upgrades or using the same gun forever. Except that the game gives you ammo randomly for all weapons. So it's possible to have two guns and only get ammo for other guns you don't carry.
The game heavily features a commentary on how racism is bad, because people were racist in the past. Never once says the word nigger though because that would be problematic and triggering. This game was held up as a mature example of intellectual storytelling.
None of the choices matter at all. Even remotely. You'll be asked to pick a necklace for the bitch. It literally doesn't matter at all. The game presents it as an impactful choice that will affect the story going forwards. She just wears whichever one you pick for the rest of the game and it's never commented on.
That's all I can think of from the top of my head. You really should watch the MathewMatosis video on it. It's far more fun and interesting than the game itself.
