Tropico 6
>no matter how how many rebels there are, the game limits uprising to only like 10 rebel brigades during rebellions, so they can be easily defeated with a certain amount of base defence (also no coups anymore)
>previous titles could have hundreds of rebel brigades based on the actual rebel amount
>this makes it impossible to lose that way (even with every happiness value being at the lowest possible), but it also makes every killed rebel brigade a drop in a bucket and you will probably have unending rebel attacks, which can't be defeated militarily
>also factions literally don't give a fuck about your ideology or actions anymore, only if you praise them and do tasks for them
Oblivion & Skyrim
>All unique (and therefore interesting) items are subject to the infamous level-scaling as well
>you'd have to artificially limit yourself from playing certain quests until you powerleveled, if you want the few unique artefacts to be useful
>this can be fixed with mods though, so it's not that bad, still very annoying though
Various RPGs
>same principle as Elder Scrolls, some games throw random skill or attribute boni at certain points in the game at you, which can sometimes make your character build inefficient (like the books in vtmb, when you have already taken that skill)
>this makes blind playthroughs a bit annoying and unsatisfying, knowing that you gimped the maximum potential of your character
The Unfair Mode in Pathfinder Kingmaker
>is based on tabletop RPG rules
>completly changes the entire delicate balance of the ruleset
>AC for you becomes basically useless, because the attack of the enemy gets boosted so high that they hit you every time
>Everything which relies on you to roll to hit becomes extremely underpowered, because the AC of the enemies is so high that you don't hit anything
>classes which don't rely on that like the Kineticist become OP
(a better difficulty setting would have been to just double the amount of enemies in the game, this just skews the game and gives you a false impression of the pathfinder ruleset)
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
>I haven't reached that part yet, but I have it on good authority that once you learn the counter strike ability, the game's combat advantages the defensive to an extreme extent, you can't counter the counter strike, but it counters everything else

>Counter attack
You can also abuse the fact that enemies can't block attacks if they started before you target them, since the combat works in a fake turn based combat system, if you start your attack before the combat starts, the AI don't know what to do and just takes it.
You can look away from them, start an attack and instantly look at them for a 100% hit chance on every attack. This does not require waiting for the character to learn any skill, you can do this from the start of the game and can be used to kill everything before the horse escape sequence.
One day I will fucking manage to kill all horse niggers and use a bandage during the horse sequence, but that requires some fucking good archery skills and plenty of luck, if they don't spawn infinitely, that is

X3: (all versions)
Ship AI is the same for all ships, this means fast, light ships don't change their vector fast enough to avoid colliding with things. This meant most M5 scout class ships with all speed upgrades would kamikaze on larger ships, killing entire wings of fighers instantly.
In order for the entire galaxy to be simulated in real time, all the ships not in your system run on a fixed stat system. This made certain events (AI migrations) devastating to the sectors they roamed through unless you personally showed up to force the game back to in-sector rules .
The controls have sliding inputs, which have a fixed value of thrust. This means, you can slide capital class ships faster than straight forward thrust. Faster than some fighter ships when you triple chord.

At least bayonetta 1 lets you cheese enemies to death any way you want, parry included. In bayo 2 if you aren't hoarding magic so you can enter umbran climax and spam wicked/infernal weaves, or dodging perfectly so you enter witch time you ain't gonna be doing any sort of meaningful damage, i'm sure you've heard this before but the developers balanced the game around witch time, some enemies are way too fast for normal bayonetta to deal with and some outright ignore hits/hitstun from her if they aren't wicked weaves OR you're in witch time, shit's so bad speedrunners opted towards using gun extends (hold P or K after attack) to deal damage and farming halos in a certain stage to be able to afford the 10 million mecha "early" and literally stomp everything to death.

>AI Director's biggest scaling factor is survivor "permanent" health (players can get temporary health through consumables that slowly drains away over time, which has no effect on the director)
>As a result, no one uses medkits and instead just downs consumables until they've gone "black and white" to slant the AI director into giving them more consumables, weapons and to decrease the frequency of tank, witch and horde spawns
The phrase "black and white" is a colloquial term in the game that refers to the fact that you can only be revived 2 times before your character dies. When all revives are used your sight loses most of it's color to indicate that you're dying
>Since you can almost always hear tanks before you encounter them and hordes give you enough time after the horde SFX plays, players who are low health will just use their medkits before the fight
So the winning strategy to beating expert mode is too deliberately keep your health low until you need to heal

XCOM 2012 and the pod system. Realizing how it works leads you to the correct way of playing - putting your soldiers in a blob, moving the furthest one ahead, and scooting everyone together (even with no cover) and activating overwatch on every soldier. Enemies who aren't activated cannot harm you, and playing aggressively causes you to activate extra enemies with almost no reward.

>Pathfinder Kingmaker
The worst part is that it's based on the shit design that most modern CRPGs go with - making saves, checks, and stats so high that fights become coin flips to see if you win. Failing that coin flip means you have to endure the inconvenience of loading a save file from 10 seconds ago. Considering the fact that the overwhelming majority of "difficulty" with that game is determined at the character creator (the game on the hardest mode is still too easy if you build great characters instead of a variety of fun characters), it's just bad design. The level-up screen is infinitely more fun than the combat, and their characters aren't interesting or well-written, so you have no reason to not just hire a band of custom mercs.
For as much as creators talk about disliking 3.5 for the wizard/cleric/druid dominance, they sure do like making games, systems, and extensions that continue to encourage you to do nothing but make large roving parties of clerics, wizards, and druids.
>>16869169

Funny, because that's still a thing in Fallout 76. Imagine an MMO where you can do side quests to get some really good weapons, one of the best melee weapons in the game, but if you do the quest too early, you get a shitty version of it, and you can't ever repeat the quest or get the item to drop from somewhere else.

at the fundamental level, the difficulty settings are what pisses me off the most about not only Pathfinder, but other recent CRPGs; they always feel so condescending whether easy or hard, and no setting ever feels like it's how you were intended to play it
how I would have done PF:Kingmaker difficulties is how the P&PRPG does them: select how many points you want to make your character, select your XP track, and maybe toggle a couple houserules which should count for both players and enemies (like nat 20s always confirm or rolled defense (instead of adding 10 to your armor class bonuses, add a d20 roll each time. Can catch a tanky fucker in a moment of weakness or give a vulnerable mage a fortuitous dodge)
these alone would create a significant amount of granularity in playstyles

All of their """solutions""" are insanely grindy anyway. Kinda reminds me of the hackjob ways some romhacks would do with EV training areas.

I fucking hated this system because some levels on DMD clearly weren't designed around it due to enemies like Furies who are untouchable until they attack first and on their own can just do nothing for long periods of time which could send a run on 6000 style points to 3000 just because they're being uncooperative and someone just told me this is how the new system worked and I was shocked it was this bad.
Also it means those little enemies sprinkled throughout the maps are actually very harmful to your rank opposed to slightly beneficial like in the other games because just killing them will hurt your average time in S rank.

That's a glitch, what I'm using are actual intended mechanics and they already break all the systems in place.
Granted there's a few things you can't cheese the way I described, Arguably Balder, Jeanne and Rodin all will actually become a lot more dangerous and less predictable if enraged , Balder less so since you can still kinda parry everything he throws with some skill and knowledge of his weird attack hitboxes but Jeanne will just throw extremely random and fast attacks so you have to play very defensively and preemptively dodge a lot while Rodin just becomes the fucking Souldozer and wrecks your face in seconds if he ever goes into that state

It annoys me that shadow-based stealth games like Thief and The Dark Mod don't have a functioning cover system.
You can only rely on shadows. Some barrels are just invisible.

They didn't "fuck up all these cool concepts" they invented these cool concepts during PR interviews and never had any intention of implimenting them or any idea how to if they were so inclined.
At least with the first one. Face's showing emotion is just spin for "facial animations" which wasn't anything mindblowing. The game leveling with you they implimented fine, but it's a terrible idea that will haunt that game like the spectre of death, always necessitating a mod on any playthrough to make it worthwhile.
The shedule thing was proven complete BS. The example they showed in whatever video or interview it came up in was found to be entirely scripted. I think they left it in the game files on the release version or something. It's been a while so my memory is foggy.

Obviously there's way to balance that shit out you don't have to go full retard and alert if one single ray intersect with the edge of your model, raytracing is just the easy way to actually properly check if you're hiding behind something withoutbig limitations like say MGS

Kingdom Come recently rebalanced combat, good opponents will become more passive and wait to counter you if you never try to strike first, and will start trying to close distance and clinch you. Most noticably they nerfed clinching so that 1) You don't win every clinch even with max strength and 2) the ai can counter your follow up strikes after you win a clinch if you spam them.
Overall I think it's better balanced and forces you to mix up attack angles, counters and clinch fighting.

Interesting exploit but an extremely counterintuitive and unfun way to play. Based on how it sounds, seems like this would leave you extremely vulnerable in any of the various 1 vs 2/3/4 engagements since you can't block properly without being locked on either, and there will be multiple opponents swinging at you at once.
But anyway, since it's so counterintuitive it's hardly "game ruining", if anything how hugely effective bows are at high level and how poorly enemies deal with you firing at them is worse. Also if this exploit is from an earlier build it might be patched.

The barrels in the Thieves Guild, before you climb down to the lower levels don't let you hide behind them. I was caught by the servant.
Also the same principle as my example in TDM would be true for Thief as well. If you hide behind a bunch of crates, but there is a small free space between them and it's lit, then the guards will see you. It's not treated as you being hidden, even though maybe only like your eye would be visible.

Both of those case have people unaware that you might even be here, and in both case it's a familiar person and moving through a familiar environment, that does impact the result quite a bit for various reason
Trying to stay concealed from stranger looking for someone in a neutral or unfamiliar environment is a very different thing and most people would tell you that's it's much simpler to look like you belong or completely avoid any possible contact than trying to conceal yourself entirely from a nearby person.
Granted "looking like you belong" is sorta under the stealth umbrella now that I think about it.

But only, if you are completly covered. My point is that if you aren't completly covered, it will not give you the hidden status. While in other games the devs coded certain objects to make you hidden, even if there is a small hole in there, where you can observe the enemy from.

I couldn't have worded it better. The mentality sometimes seems to be "Well, that's what people want," but I wouldn't have expected anything mold-breaking from Paizo anyway. As far as I can tell the rules team is unironic mage worshipping faggots who seem to be genuinely making what they enjoy, so more power to them I guess.
This is why I am rooting for Larian to get better and release something that is truly memorable. They're the only ones who seem to have an underlying motivation that involves bucking those traditions and rethinking it from the perspective of a computer interface. You don't need a grid because you aren't trying to move pieces with your ape hands. Fights should take place three dimensionally because again, not a table. Too often CRPG designers just bring in tabletop adventure authors that don't change anything about their methods and so you get games which take place entirely in 2D with respect to positioning. Not to mention most CRPG studios don't even really seem to care about good interface design to begin with, although they have plenty of art to go with it.

Neither system was truly abusable though.

never minding that a decent swordsman can work with the 3 foot cord

It wasn't removed and nerfed because the designer is an uncoordinated manlet, that was merely the justification they gave. A crappy one at that considering that even fighters in 3, 3.5 and Pathfinder are capable of some pretty unrealistic feats even within the first 5 levels.
It was worse than that, it was done specifically to nerf Gunslingers because, once again, they couldn't abide a non-magic option being able to accomplish anything.

Gamefreak has stated that they try to make each gen feel different by making these dumb broken format warping gimmicks and throwing them in without any regard for balance. Smogons influence is if they somehow limit or ban this op gimmick, which thankfully for this gen they did.

Broken insane gimmicks are still better than trying to make the meta hyper stale, which is my point.
I'd rather have the absolute shitshow that battlespot type things have than smogon.
>Smogons influence is if they somehow limit or ban this OP gimmick
I hope you realize, any player you actually play with that would follow smogon isn't going to be playing only with such a simple ban right.
More likely they're just not a tard and came up with a blatant solution to a really terrible mechanic; disallowing use.
Smogons influence will be as per usual, so a bunch of bans that aren't just the gimmick. You don't get "pieces of smogon", you get the full package.
The full terrible autistic package, my point is that smogon is a shitheap itself with its own flaws. Its not just gamefreak that blights the """competitive""" pokemon community.
Not that gamefreak were suddenly good for no reason.

True but has been remedied somewhat in three houses maddening difficulty. Gambits are really useful to delay enemies even for low damage units, and 9 tile boss monsters are way overpowered and will wreck even high level units eventually if you don't take down their barrier with gambits (which regenerates every other turn). And not importing a clear save into maddening basically forces you to totally optimize your strategy and gambits (even your best units can't tank average mobs early on).
But even with max stat totals (which I don't know if it's possible to have for 4+ units, definitely pushing it) I don't think most units would be invulnerable against high damage end-game units and bosses. Even turning Felix into a perfect dodge tank would limit you to only counter-attacking high hit % bosses (since you have to wait to activate alert stance).

Gen 2 UU and gen 3 OU are the best pokemon competitive will ever be. They don't care about balance anymore and megas/faries should have made that obvious.

>gen2 UU
I've never played this , what exactly makes this good exactly?
Gen 2 isn't generally the paragon of balance and fun. UU is also a big banlist on a game, you could pretty much achieve it on any game with enough autism; so counting it as the "best it'll ever be" isn't logically flawless.
Gen 3 is pretty fun though. I don't think the game really handled the split amazingly, and gen 4 shat the bed repeatedly with terrible choices like stealth rock distribution and a couple of other things.
Later gens just bedshat even harder with terrible choices.
>faries
Despite how shit they are, they are pretty much the only sign they give a shit in contrast really. And random things like the burn nerf in gen 7.
They try sometimes and buff mons with SpD other times.

>I've never played this , what exactly makes this good exactly?
Gen 2 OU is stall: the meta. UU lacks all of that bullshit and is literal perfection. I think gen 3 OU is great because phys/spec split just made weak pokemon weaker and strong pokemon stronger.
Instead of a split they should have made certain moves "hybrid" so they can scale off attack or special attack depending on which one is higher. Imagine the elemental punches working that way.
Fairies are just stupid. They were created to balance dragon out, but they could have done that simply by buffing the garbage ice type, the type that exists to keep dragons in check in the first place. Now 99% of ice pokemon are total garbage because all of their weaknesses and because all water pokemon learn the best ice type moves.

I don't think being a ban list for one of the worse metas automatically makes it good.
>UU lacks all of that bullshit and is literal perfection
I somehow doubt it totally lacks that. I suppose it would be hard to really convey what makes something good past a base level.
>Instead of a split they should have made certain moves "hybrid"
Or you know, they could have just fixed movesets instead of making moves questionable as shit.
Punch=special was always logically dumb. Its a lazy option.
Also crap movesets existed in gen 1 without anything like a split so they aren't even related.
Mons with crap movesets are worse than mons with decent movesets; who could have guessed.
Once again i really do not mean that gamefreak make intelligent decisions, just that fairy was definitely an attempt.
I still have no idea what the hell they were on with ice types, a late game type that lacks resistances to be not even better than the average in an offensive sense statistically.
Its only sheer luck that it has any upside, i suppose the other end is fucking steel which is a midgame type that is better than the late game dragon typing.

This, smogon fucks the game up pretty hard, gen 6 and 7 were handled horribly.
Game is best when you play with no banlist at all or gamefreak's basic banlist (no mythical pokemon or box legends, no more than one of each pokemon and item), even after all of the times gamefreak has messed up. One of the reasons megas seemed so broken was because of how poorly smogon handled gen 6. They banned pokemon (some as soon as day 1) based on established gen 5 standards rather than letting the meta settle, which in turn further warped the game by the time gen 7 rolled around.

I just wish it was more balanced, that light infantry COULD counter heavy vehicles, I know scouts and assault squads have melta bombs with space marines. but at one point you need multiple meltas to destroy a single heavy vehicle. It's just shitty balance and it's even worse in the campaign where you just rush terminators.
