I was having extreme amounts of fun playing The Guild 2 as the rogue class, specifically just waylaying carts with my buddies and chilling in the woods

are there any tycoon/simulation games that are built entirely around this gameplay?

living in the woods, robbing people, stealing shit, maybe have a little hideout

Not really no, plus it's generally a bad idea in The Guild 2 to waylay carts as you get very little profit from it and eventually the carts get protected by armed guards.

So eventually you will be spending more money than you gain if you waylay carts, the best thing to do to earn money as a Rogue is protection, pickpocketing, and eventually kidnapping.

Port Royale 2 allows you to be a semi-pirate, but you have to balance it with keeping good reputation with the cities or just play as a privateer because otherwise you won't have a place to sell your shit.

I'll disagree here. Best way to make money as Rogue is robbing houses or even workplaces.

You need to "scan" the place first to maximize profit and here's a tip: you can only do it once, but if ALL your thieves and your character start doing it, the scan bonus is cumulative.

You can steal ridiculous amount of money from rich families (perfect for going after other dynasties) and even precious items giving you some choice based on where you steal.

Rogue is still mostly a political class however, in the sense that more than any other, it helps a lot when progressing in the hierarchy.

Between intimidation, violence, blackmailing and other tools, you have plenty to make sure there's no opposition, including kidnapping and murdering.

I've won plenty of court cases because my accuser was resting in my hideout and plenty of elections because I literally killed every other candidate.

Problem with robbing buildings is the risk/reward, the risk out-weighs the reward in my eyes.

Though you mentioned the Rogue is mostly a political class, it is in a sense, but I don't agree that someone should go Rogue if they want to succeed in politics.

While the kidnapping is useful for preventing trials and that 1 person from getting the same position as you the problems arise when you have multiple people applying for the same position as you which a Rogue can not deal with.

For politics I'd go Scholar, for the obvious reasons that Scholars focus on attributes that make you very sociable and have access to nifty items that can improve peoples relation to you. (You'll also find as Scholar that you aren't vilified as time goes on like the Rogue is due to the Rogue's businesses harming their reputation.)

>Not playing scholar, stacking all buffs and getting 21 points in arcane, reducing all item cooldowns to -5% and then spamming that item (that poison drug thing that even plagues the whole town afterwards) that instantly kills anyone that gets in your way

>Not getting orphans right after consuming all buffs with you and your wife to get uber kids that start at 8-12 all stats (just make sure they don't get everything capped, or they won't be able to level up)

My main would bully duel everyone to death (literally when they finally accepted) every single opportunity

These.

Also, what the hell happened to the Caribbean pirating/trading genre? Last I heard about it was Port Royale 3, and it streamlined everything so much that everyone hated it.

I expected the genre to move to mobile, but there's literally one game like it on Android as far as I can tell, and it's heavily simplified.

I've recently read somewhere that Kalypso is doing PR4.

Naval combat is apparently going be turn based with hexagonal fields or some shit like that. I just want PR2 combat with allied CPU ships

PR1 was the best imo, real-time strategy with action-pause feature and ability to manually command any ship at any time.

With every subsequent entry they tried to streamline it for the consoles which I could never get my head around, who would play a game like this on a console. Even PR2, which is a neat upgrade in almost every other aspect, those single-ship battles just kill it for me.
