Seems Todd has taught his apprentice well in the ways of "Sweet Lies." Going on the shill Kinda Funny interview with Greg Miller, he pretty much says its your fault that Fallout 76 went wrong. Defends the $100 Fallout 1st as value like a premium car, even though he disses the value comparison with hulu that a customer would bring up. Doesn't listen to youtubers or critics because they're in it for the money at F76 failure, and takes advice from reddit or people he knows. Hates being called a liar comparing not fulfilling a promise like not taking his child to go to Chuck E. Cheese because of a flu. They were being risky like Horizon: Zero Dawn instead of a cheap & rushed cashgrab that it released as. You blew up the failure of F76 unlike with Elder Scrolls Online, even though F76 was a mess for over a year while ESO was meh and mostly forgotten with hardly even a quarter of the problems that F76 had. He better hope Wastelanders isn't another disaster for Fallout 76 than it already has been.

Some anon explained it in some other thread, but I always thought Pete Hines was the big bombastic community manager/PR whatever in charge of lying to people about ESO and Fallout. That's who I remember talking to the community about Oblivion.

Which brings to question why do work in gaming when you honestly just fucking hate gamers or gaming in general?

He probably thinks that he likes gamers in general and just doesn't like the ones who have particular problems with his company and what they produce. I'm guessing he has a really poorly-adjusted sense of what is and is not unfair criticism. That makes him bad at his job, because there's a large segment of his potential community that he's unable to reach due to his mental blocks, assuming his job is to win people over to liking the game and not merely to put coats of sunshine on whatever shit Bethesda decides to do. Of course, if the games are just bad then no amount of outreach will fix that, and he doesn't seem to be particularly good at recognizing when that's happening and dealing with it. Objective thinking, though, is tough for lots of people, and for folks who're paid to shine turds they really can't be objective and keep earning their pay.

I think I mentioned this in a thread already, but had they actually executed well AND had proper modding support, this would've probably been the most honest game Bethesda put out in a long fucking time. As if they'd finally figured out that they couldn't make an RPG, so they took the good parts of their games, which are comfy exploration and building an autism fort home, then added the ability to play with friends, fight other players, have a player driven economy and opportunities to build shanty towns together out of combined autism forts or whatever.

Instead, in classic bethesda fashion, they botched the game itself. Then botched their jewish subscription service, then botched every single update that the game ever got. The combat is worse than Fallout 4, because of the lag and the fact you HAVE to build in very specific ways to do any damage at all to the bullet sponge enemies. Playing with friends barely works because of massive desync, open world loot not being instanced so you have to split the loot instead of getting everything. The player driven economy has no inter-server market or something you can place down to sell your items while you're offline. The only way to buy shit from players is to visit their camp, while they're on the same server as you. And you can't build towns with your friends, because as soon as you start building, you set up a no go zone that noone else can build in.

And now they're adding NPCs with dialog trees and shit, so they think they actually can make an RPG, and I'm a fucking retard for assuming they had any self awareness at any point whatsoever. It's also pretty telling that they didn't even go to the Fallout 4 dialog options, but went straight for New Vegas style, because after showing the industrial fist in some trailer, and having the Desert Ranger Armor as the main draw of their faggot subscription service, they really want you to remember that they had an entirely negative part in developing an actually good videogame.

When has Bethesda ever been good at letting people build autism forts? The only game that even has any building is Fallout 4 unless ESO has some or Skyrim has some and I forgot about it. Do you mean kicking people out of some place and stacking your own books in it? Or do you mean the reward homes you're given sometimes? Or do you mean that it's easy to build your own mod home in the dev tools?

Aside from that, I always felt that 76 was their attempt to build a not-MMO open world multiplayer game, since their MMO ESO didn't do so hot. Most MMOs have NPCs, and have auction houses–so Bethesda says their not-MMO isn't going to have those things whether it's a good idea or not. A lot of the things you mention about them doing wrong are probably either them not knowing what is supposed to make the multiplayer experience fun or just trying to do things differently than MMOs so they can say they're making something that's better than a regular old modern MMO.

>When has Bethesda ever been good at letting people build autism forts?

The realtime settler and wasteland defense mods were always massively popular for Fallout 3 and NV, but that semi-counts I guess. Skyrim had the entire DLC about buying a plot of land, building a house, decorating it and the surroundings then kidnapping children and women to clean your house.

Oh, I understand now. You're saying that they saw what mod makers were doing with mods that let you build autism forts, and then decided that was what people wanted to be doing in their games. That makes sense–it'd explain why FO4 had the community building parts and also why they tried to go a step further in 76.

Pete Hines surpassed Todd years ago. If you look at his old interviews he did more damage to elder scrolls and fallout than Todd ever did.
