So this thread is an idea I've had a couple of days ago. I'm sure you know about /a/ streams and all that stuff. Well, what I want to try is a similar concept but with vidya. We're in a bad spot right now, where the industry is at the worst it has ever been. But that doesn't mean it's time to give up on games altogether : we all still have more than 20 years of content worth playing. If you want to try out some classics you missed,or want to find some hidden gems,or just don't know how to play, this is the thread for you.
The idea is that each week/every two weeks (we'll see how it goes) I'll make a thread with a small list of some titles for a specific console/computer featuring a couple of classics and lesser known games. Then you all can choose what we find interesting and play it or put it in the backlog. The thread will be a place to post your thoughts, discuss the games and just have a fun time enjoying what we should all love.
As I don't want to make this a "play my shitty games" thread, while the first list will be made all by myself the others will be composed of your suggestions,as long as they stick to what we're planning next week.
So without further ado, let's play some video games.
This week we'll start from the basics, the NES.
These are my picks.
>Cocoron: A strange but unique platformer where you create your character with various parts all having different effects. While it may be limited in some aspects (it's a NES game after all),it's a fun game with some novel ideas and trippy visuals.
>Lagrange Point: Awesome sci-fi RPG by Konami. The game obviously is similar to Dragon Quest like every JRPG ever but it manages to be its own thing. What really stands out is the music,as Konami used a special processor to make it sound like the fucking Mega Drive.
>Metal Storm: Probably the first time where gravity changing was a central mechanic, this is a cool mech platformer that became a bit of a cult classic. You probably know this. Watch out though,it can be pretty difficult at times.
>Crisis Force: Some Shmup goodness for you all, this features amazing graphics,a cool OST and smooth gameplay. The main gimmick is the ability to change your shape at any moment between 3 types.
>Crystalis: If you like the 2D Zeldas you must play this. Actually a somewhat known game,it's SNK's version of a top down Zelda-style game-and it's so fucking good.
Now,I'm thinking to stick a vola here for the ROMs you should be able to find them by yourself though so ask if you want it.
I guess that's all, sorry for the long as fuck OP but it's the first time I do something like this. Any tip is appreciated.
Play sometihng, post your thoughts, discuss and maybe give a suggestion for our next thread, where the Mega Drive/Genesis will be the protagonist.

I made a hack to unfuck Crystalis' often goofy English, and a minor hack to correct the name entry screen. Just look up "Crystalis proofread".
I need to play Lagrange point, since it's been translated properly and all that. I only put a few minutes into the Japanese version after modding my NES for Famicom sound.

So it's a game night thread, except we all play solo and then report back and also you don't offer the downloads directly.

I knew 8kun was up because i was on the cake bunker, and i learned about that because i had /a/'s bunker bookmarked for ages and someone mentioned it there. I'd just rather have things immediately available rather than having to root though electronic dustbins for it myself; hell, if i was gonna bother with that i'd probably track down the star ocean 1/2 remakes and a PSP emulator or the mother 1 remake and whatever that needs.

Really, the only reason I haven't posted the ROMs yet is because I don't know where to upload them. Still,it's easy as fuck to find them, even emuparadise has everything. But if you have an idea where I can upload them tell me,I'm pretty retarded myself

Hope I didn't fuck up anything

The idea is pretty nice.
I think I'll try one or two of these. I've pretty much never played any console only games since I've never owned any consoles, so we'll see how it goes.
Only thing is, one list per weeks seems a bit much if people are actually going to try and play the games. I'd say it make it one in per two weeks with the second week main focus to choose the next list.

Alright,thanks for the feedback.
I was thinking that too, while for something like cocoron a week is more than enough an RPG like Lagrange can be a bit much in a week.
Happy to see that you like the idea.
If it's your first time with the NES I'd take in consideration that these games can be quite dated and difficult nowadays (I'd say that Cocoron and Crystalis are the easier of the bunch,Metal Storm can be infuriating).
But if these games are not your cup of tea just write it,that's kind of the point of the thread anyway,so we can point you to some games that you may like.
I think that Genesis will be pretty accesible to everyone,so there's always the next thread.

yeah I figured, but I was just about to start replaying Sekiro because I really can't get into most new games for some reason (most likely because they are shit)
I'll try Cocoron when I get home from work, you had me at trippy visuals

I remember /vg/ had a similar idea and it worked out pretty well. Only issue is they did one game at a time and not all of them were interesting. I would say best place to post games would be the vola and would suggest doing it. The easier it is for anons to get the game the more likely they are to give it a go.

I don't think I've run across Lagrange Point before, that has my curiosity. Reminds me of early Phantasy Star games by screenshots.

Trying out cocoron. Never played or seen this before.

I am HATLER, the ninja boat! This is great.
Kinda curious if these games have translation patches. I read like a first grader ie, well enough to understand what this blue cow thing is saying but I imagine most here don't.
Not hugely impressed with the gameplay. The first boss flies around randomly, and is a pain in the ass. That's the actual fight after dodging projectiles for a couple minutes. My being half boat might be why I'm having a hard time of it.

The ROM in the MEGA should have a patch, still Cocoron doesn't have a plot that deep.
Also I think too that the gameplay is pretty basic but it has many great ideas that even today are rare and the game gets kinda cool at the final part, understanding what you actually need to do is pretty bullshit though.
Creating the characters is a blast.

The /v/ game nights are a better idea, but can't really do that with single player games. How do you plan to ensure people just discuss the one game? You listed 5, the conversation may get hectic if people decide to just go with one of the 4 not selected.

A few games means that more people will contribute, as there's more chance that at least one of the games there will be to your taste.
And with how slow the board is, it's not gonna be THAT hectic.

Lagrange point is a game I only became aware of due to the music, being the only game to use the VRC7. Similar thing happened to me with Fire 'N Ice (Solomon's Key 2), only found that game due to the samples it used.

Doesn't matter. Did it almost two years ago after seeing there was nothing like it on the SJW shithole known as RHDN. Also partially restored Metal Gear to be more like the MSX2 version, and hacked Blaster Master to be a bit more like Blaster Master Zero, visually.
