Now that it looks the fishing Horror game Earls day off looks like it might become the next big indie game. What are other video games with fishing in them? They don’t have good fishing mechanics. Just the act of fishing its self.

Persona 4 and Trails of Cold Steel do. It's nothing much, just a few rods and press X when the fish occurs. But you get some nice recovery items for em

There is not rod and reel fishing in BOTW, which is a huge missed opportunity. I was almost certain they were going to add it in a later update but it never came.
You can fish, but it solely consists of pressing the use button to grab fish when you're near them. You can herd them onto land to make it easier, and you can throw bombs to stun/kill them and grab them when they're on the surface, but there's no rod-and-reel fishing and that's a big letdown.
Maybe BOTW2 will have it.
Animal Crossing is out in a fortnight and it will have fishing. AC fishing is not very deep but it's definitely comfy, especially as you can fill up the museum with Blathers.
Ten minutes of ACNH footage just got uploaded by NintendoLife. No faggy commentary or anything, just gameplay.

(Fishing) Tackle + Yakuza = Takuza
It's the name of a Yakuza 2D fishing-only demake. As far as the thread topic goes, though, I remember that at some point in its life FFXI was basically a fishing game, except there was no actual skill or game play involved. Nier and Automata had fishing. Didn't Okami have fishing, too? It seems to be a staple of the third person adventure genre.

Dwarf Fortress, come to think of it, also has fishing. It's helpful in Fortress mode, but in Adventure mode you have to jump in the water and kill the fish yourself. Only game I ever played where you fish with your fists. I won't say I've never jumped into the water and pinched a carp apart like I was ripping up an apple.

I would give absolutely anything for another Legend of the River King, or even a 3D Zelda or something with a larger emphasis on fishing. Fishing games themselves are really fun but I also really like when there's a quest going on that fishing is either a part of or a break from.

In Vietnam, they would take a mostly-empty glass peanut butter jar, pull the pin from a grenade, and put the grenade in said jar. Then they would drop it from a helicopter into a nearby pond. The impact of the glass on the water would break the jar, the spoon on the grenade would trigger the fuse, and the grenade would kill or stun the fish in the pond, so they could be scooped up and collected. I would still call this fishing.

I never found that out, but I imagine it's to delay the grenade's detonation as long as possible. If you were throwing it from a safe distance, the grenade would be armed for a couple seconds by the time it hit the water and wouldn't sink very deep.

Fishing in Legend of Legaïa was fucking terrible for very stupid reasons, first off it consumes resources which isn't too bad in itself, unless the game doesn't actually let you get any extra resources until you've expanded the starting ones, and you can only get those from places you might not even think to ever revisit.
Also the usual catch difficulty has nothing to do with the actual value of the fish and iirc you have to get something like 30k points to get all the good stuff from fishing but you can at best get 300 per fish points and only if you fish in a very specific spot with a specific consumable without any guarantee you'll even get that one, not to mention the pool of fish you can get from there i big and full of "hard to catch with shit point value" ones
