I take my post back, in Nu-Modern Warfare's Battle Royal, they made a system where when you die you can have a second chance, however in order to earn this second chance, your character is literally taken to a Gulag by two Russian soldiers, you must then duel another dead player in the gulag, if you beat him you get the second chance, if you die you done for good.
Despite being a Battle Royal that's kind of an interesting idea for respawning, I think another game I forgot about tried something close, and I know for sure some SS13 servers have something like that for ghosts.

I remember my dad had a video splitter set up so we could get cable channels in other rooms without paying for separate boxes, and like an idiot I had my PSX plugged into the cable-box's input. I was sitting there happily playing FFVII when he storms in and gives me a lecture about racism. Apparently when he turned the TV on and flipped to the programmed cable channel, he saw me playing and saw that I had named Barrett "Big Nigger".
