Not him but I only saw it six months ago and only finished Evangelion a few weeks back for the first time. I just don't watch much anime of any kind, I mostly stick to vidya only, and can't really force myself to sit and binge-watch shit for hours on end so I only do an episode or two a day at the most. That's also the case for TV, movies and so on - I haven't seen most "classics" because I'm not that interested and get distracted too easily to sit and binge-watch shit.

I also put a lot of the "big names" off for quite a while, as I expected them to be like any overhyped vidya and underwhelm the shit out of me. Initial D was probably the first anime to really break that view for me.
