Simple, they're people who don't want to think and want everyone else to take care of them. Or, they're someone who wants to be social.

It's not download-able content ("DLC"), you're paying for an Expansion Pass™, which then gives you access to free content!

I stopped trusting Nintendo with the Gamecube. They haven't gotten a dime from me since. Everything I've gotten with their logo on it since then has been secondhand or yarr'd.

The gamecube was fine its just it was inferior to the PS2's library. Just about the only thing the GC had was a lot of first-party exclusves, which is what Nintendo tries to float all their consoles with every generation. Its just that this gen, Nintendo somehow managed to fuck up less than Xbox with their always online bullshit they backtracked on and Sony with their censorship agenda.

Pokemon is fucking ruined though. Is it still regional dex only, no outside pokemons?

More of a Gamefreak refused to wait until they were done with their pet project and really buckle down on THE FIRST MAINLINE POKEMON ON A CONSOLE, than a nintendo bad issue.
Hell the whole thing because a bunch of fuckers were round and roundin' between Little Town Hero, and SWooSH which only resulted in both games being underwhelming and half assed, only thing is LTH didn't have the spectacle factor Pokemon did.
Nintendo's fine, but you should probably avoid Gamefreak until they can get their shit in the toilet and not their pants.

I'd blame TPC for putting Game Freak on the "toy shilling marketing scheme" treadmill rather than having time to do what they want. Ironically the DLC thing could help if it buys them time to make one generation a console instead of having to push out two like before, but then that could also be it's own problem where the game is half baked and the DLC is just other different half baked ideas (you can't tell me anything other than the minor league gym leaders is cut content). Game Freak is just not super competent in general, they need help or time or anything really. I'd personally have done something like the GameCube games Genius Sonority did a while back, that would buy time, maybe give TPC a subline imprint, get some experimentation with gameplay styles. DLC is at least theoretically more content, and they clearly want to do something with the wild area, even though it seems kinds like a mistake in general. I've been saying lately that Pokemon should really be more like Kirby, if anybody gets me Hell, they handled a game that seems unfinished better than GF did, shame about the framerate though.

It also stands to mention, tons of animations could be recycled from PBR, which would substantially bump up the quality of the battling, as both PBR and the current pokemon engine both use bone driven animations.
Tremendously wasted opportunity all things considered, as PBR's models are nicely made, and unlike what some shitheads posting "Longchu" (pikachu with ganondorf's moveset and animations) it'd be taking on model pokemon animations and putting them to other on model pokemon.
It's one of the analogs 3D has to Flash driven animation, where each animation you make, can, provided you don't move to a model that is radically different, build a library of animations you can reuse from making your work progressively easier.

Given apparently animations were a pretty big problem, I don't think using animations not specifically made for their models was a good idea. I'd also like to note that currently Fairy Lock crashes the game in most cases because they didn't include animations for it, because they forgot to remove the move from the files. It actually works without animations though. What I'm saying is, imagine a problem like that for every single one of over 800 Pokemon, when apparently it's a minor pain to get animations from LGPE to SS, and a major pain to get animations from Gen 7 to SS. It's a better idea to just stick with what they have right now, even if it was a bad decision in the moment, worst case they can tweak it later. Hell that's how it worked with Stadium to GC to BR in the first place. I'd like to ask if you know anything about the different formats the various games use, as well as their engines, because it seems you've only got a general idea and while that's something you should probably look into it a little more, might help in general.

Well, really I only have an idea in the (admittedly narrow) scope of game modding. From what I know though, the underlying engine has been (mostly) the same since X&Y (even LG/PE uses the same engine?) and bone/skeletal driven animation has literally been standard since the ps2.

Incorrect on a couple counts. Here's a link from reddit of all places that describes some of the differences.

It's a bit out of date, but SS does use a similar engine to Let's Go. I'd also like to note the weird Nintendo SDK/Lunchpack/GF sphagetti code might be why their online features are so fucked, since Nintendo SDK is mostly offline aside from MK8, Lunchpack was designed for Splatoon 2, and Game Freak might be using the same old netcode for all we know, and it might not have played well together. That's just a theory though, I have no actual evidence to back this up. Game Freak was absolutely not prepared for this shit, and combined with a tight deadline by TPC and Nintendo already delaying Animal Crossing, they needed something out. And it sure fucking sold well, so to the shareholders it worked out. Shame the game is kinda Sonic Forces, where it's not a complete disaster but they clearly didn't do a good job either. I'd also like to note a similar problem with SM right now.

Here's a quote about the island trials
> “That feature actually really wasn’t locked down or figured out until we really went into the main debugging phase,”
They've clearly got problems in general, the switch to 3D was not kind to them. They're no Monolith Soft, and even Monolith has years of fucking up to learn from (it was founded by some of the staff from Xenogears, which was one of the first JRPGs to really use 3D environments years before Pokemon tried it with DP and we all know how bad DP runs).

TPC is definitely at fault. Yearly releases of Pokemon games was a mistake. However Gamefreak is still retarded and develops games as if they actually have more developing time. Like taking half a year to decide what kind of grass to use. How many of these choices did they extend to these lengths and how much development was not able to move on due to these issues is unknown, but I assume there was more than just the grass.

TPC =/= Nintendo
They do not own the majority of TPC. Nintendo has plenty of mistakes, but OP is obvious trying to trigger console war bullshit.
