when they can't even make a good game or a game that works? Try actually making games that don't suck, or aren't full of game-breaking bugs, and then maybe you can have your unions.
Game devs are some of the most entitled people on the planet.

>when they can't even make a good game or a game that works?
Because there is nobody west of vistula river who can even impart programming knowledge and only dregs, autists and failures go into entertainment-related jobs
good translators go into legal, get paid enough to build 3 story homes and work from home, faggot losers go into "localizing video games" and giving you
>daddy gets his alternative facts from the best fake news sources
>I love jelly-filled donuts
Good programmers go to become server administrators, work once a month and get a fat paycheck while getting even more money from any other project on the side, autists were displaced by faggot losers with entitlement issues.
They can't optimize, they can't make games fun, they can't innovate nor maintain technological features from two decades ago.
The serb who made Underrail is an exception I guess.
it's basically a feedback loop of shit, trash teachers impart dogshit knowledge that faggots use to get into lowest paying jobs not out of passion for games like Carmacks and the like but because everything beyond that is gated away.

The game development industry is probably the single worst work environment you can get into as a programmer. Working as a developer on a big budget video game you can expect: long hours, overly tight deadlines, endless mandatory unpaid overtime for weeks or even months at a time, incompetent management, and at the end of it all when the product is released you'll probably get fired. At the end of the day, this means that only people who are really dedicated to (or obsessed with) making video games go into and stay in the industry. With a union you can begin to improve that work environment, and make it more attractive to other, better programmers. And because the industry is less of a grind, people might stick around instead of working in crunch two years, getting fired after the game ships, and abandoning the industry entirely.
Not that a better work environment will actually make games better. 99 times out of 100 a game sucks because management sucks and has no idea what fun is, and games are usually buggy because they are rushed out the door by the publishing company in half broken states before the developers can finish QA.

The post makes no mention on how the majory of milliniels were raised by television. Doesn't mention millenials didn't invent the participation trophy. Doesn't mention the failing economy. It's nothing but whining. The last line being the funnies because it implies that things would be worse that what they are now. People who are asking for unions don't even know why a union works. They just think it sounds professional to have one. If there is no leverage on your side, having a union is detrimental to your continued employment. The employer can just go to the cheaper option if you are easily replaceable. There are many bright-eyed, delusional up-and-coming game developer types coming out of college that can take their place. You also built in the mentality of necessary crunch and also courting China because they wanted that sweet communist money. The idea might sound good on paper but the gaming industry itself has made sure that a viable union will never work in this decade or ever unless there is some drastic changes made.

Their very nature makes it impossible for them to be in charge. They will forever fail at everything that they try, while competent people will simply move away everything (market, customer base, even currency and economical systems) from them. Merit, efficiency and capital are always movable, and always free from the whinny incompetent retards. If the retards """take control""" of anything, merit, efficiency and capital will simply go somewhere else, and those retards "in control" will keep losing everything. Unions helped with all that stuff back when even the most menial white-collar workers were literally a social class above blue-collar workers and thereby had privileges that the blue-collar ones didn't. They persisted in order to nominally ensure those protections didn't go away, but then more trades decided to do it in order to get new and different protections. Around the time of the World Wars some of them got infiltrated by organized crime, and that's where some of the we'll-break-your-legs-if-you-move-that-table-yourself scare tactic stuff came from. Nowadays they're kinda like big cancerous lumps, although they do protect the benefits (earned or not) that certain trades have. Like most things, they're not all good and not all bad.

Because that would require actual risk and effort and follow-through, and a whole lot of failure and learning along the way. Despite how much people complain about how terrible things are, for most, it's "all that they know" so they don't want to tackle the unknown challenge of making their own company, or the pain that they're suffering doesn't "hurt" enough yet.

The reason games are full of bugs is because the dev studios get fucked over by publishers and not allowed the time and resources they need to fix their shit.

game devs are literal retards. They can't seem to figure out a balance between casual, good gameplay AND a very good, compelling story.
Surely it can't be that hard to figure out, with multi-million dollar budgets.
Game devs are the stupidest fucking people on earth and i hope they are driven into poverty and suicide. I want to see them suffer in agony.

>Incompetence is still a fireable offence
It isn't. What is written in a contract or in the law isn't what is put into practice or applied in real life. Incompetence is being rewarded in most cases, until the company goes bankrupt. We also have cases like Numale Sky and it's devs lies and false advertising, resulting in a complete shitty game. The fact that there are no unions in the industry is one of the reasons that allowed consumers to push back the failed studio and put them in their place. A unionized industry would have protected those failed devs.
>lots of studies have shown
Those studies are lies. Plain and simple. The more the employees are secured, the more unions demand, to the point that unreasonable and impossible demands are forced upon the industry, becoming a "us vs them" situation that stagnates everything.
You are also forgetting the main point: the industry is pozzed. Unions that would (utopically) work as intended would be protecting leftards. That alone is reason to never allow unions in this industry.

Unions are only as good as their leadership, and just like politics, it's exceedingly difficult to find good leadership that can balance the concerns of their members with the concerns of the company. What good is a union, after all, and your duty to the membership - if you drive the company into bankruptcy or push them out of the country? Admittedly, Union leadership isn't quite as corrupt as general politics - considering the small scale of many union shops, but that's about as useful as saying that your local level governments will generally be less corrupt than beltway politicians, and regardless their strike insurance still keeps them tethered to the International.
That, and there's a goddamned world of difference between the mindsets of a California software developer and that of a blue-collar factory schlub in Michigan… and that's going to radically change how things are handled at the bargaining table.

It's a selective trap, really. Raise performance metrics to levels beyond that which only system-gamers can achieve, but don't write anybody up or terminate them until the corporation demands sacrifices.
When I worked for AT&T, incompetent people almost never seemed to get fired, because they would always pull the racism card, even when all of the people approving their termination were also diversity hires. A lot of competent white men always seemed to be on the chopping block, now that I think about it.
White male supervisor complained that a black female supervisor was promoted immediately before she took maternity leave, requiring him to do both his own work, and her own. He was fired, and another supervisor had to do all three of theirs, being warned not to complain.
White male technical support agent was fired for reporting a company security breach found on the clearnet.
White male customer service agent was fired for taking family medical leave to care for his ailing mother, due to a fuckup by HR filing his leave incorrectly.
White male customer service hire was fired for schedule adherence, due to him being DEPLOYED ON ACTIVE DUTY IN TRASHCANISTAN. The company hired him back when he made noise about reporting them for breaking fucking federal law, but everyone told him to stick it to the company. I don't know if anything else came of it.
White male supervisor was fired for being terse with a black female subordinate who had no apparent work ethic (no, really), who was often found to be taking 20 minute breaks (10 minutes was the allotted time for one break) and such. She got upset and complained to HR, he was walked out in the same afternoon.
Black male business support agent was fired for regularly "double tapping", a method by which one repositions one's self in the call queue by placing their phone in an outbound call mode, then back into incoming call availability. This moves one's place in the call queue to the bottom.
MEANWHILE:
Mystery meat female manager argued with, and threatened to fire a white male technical case worker over mathematics. Female manager insisted that the value of each incoming call for the center was fixed at 0.5%, and could not understand that with a random number of inbound calls each day, such a value would change by the literal minute. She also threatened me, for backing him up with example math (one call out of say, 2400 calls in a day, cannot be one half percent of the total number of calls, and this value would only be accurate on a day in which 200 calls were received, which would be extremely unlikely due to the nature of the center).
But then, call centers are soul poison that erodes and kills everyone who works in them, IF, mind you, those people have intelligence and/or strong work ethic. The companies always set people up to fail, exploit the hardest workers, and eternally shift metrics to keep performance bonuses just out of reach.
"Oh, you got a low score on this call, so your metrics aren't enough to get a bonus."
"But that call wasn't mine, it was with a representative in the Philippines, with a different employee ID, and a completely dissimilar name!"
"Oh, we'll remove that call from your score."
"Well now that my score is well above the minimum for a bonus, can I have my bonus now?"
"No, because your score was below the limit when bonuses were being paid out."
This kind of bullshit was common, and they only seemed to do it to people who wouldn't stab the people pulling this shit.

This pretty common knowledge. You hear about shit like Konami having cameras in every single corner of their office, devs getting fired when a project is released so the earnings are slightly better and the infamous crunch time where devs essentially live in their office for 2 weeks-months. The only reason no one on here knows about it is because this entire site is pretty much entirely Qtards as seen by how they unironically defend the worst generation in history.
Unions would make it so the publishers/studios couldn't pull their shit but ultimate it wouldn't improve the situation at all. The only thing that could fix this is if the gigantic AAA studios that have completely dominated the market for the last 30 years get broken up. Sadly it just looks like things are getting further consolidated.

Honestly, let them unionize. It tends to destroy bigger businesses like EA and Ubisoft while smaller devs don't typically feel the need for unions.
Never got the hate for unions honestly. If you don't want unions treat your employees right, if you need them then fuck you, you're a major corporation and you deserve it.

Despite popular belief, people actually perform better if they feel positive about whoever/whatever it is that they are working for, that their work is being appreciated, that their contribution is meaningful, and that all the praise that they are receiving IS NOT flattery.
>>16858836
Don't forget the fact that they constantly hound people who follow the rules for breaking the rules, meanwhile anyone and everyone else even boasts about never following the rules and having worked there for several years. The moment I decided to say, "To Hell with it", my ass was out the door even despite the fact that I was still following 'the rules'. And, that's on top of the fact that the people making the rules don't understand how computers work. "The rules" state that your computer is suppose to go into sleep mode after 15 minutes of inactivity for "security reason". Even though we're using Windows 10 and Chrome, which are spyware and breaks these said rules by default, but whatever.
This causes a problem because the time sheet program doesn't log the correct time when the computer is asleep.
I got hounded about this and I explained to them that the problem is their software because making any changes would break the rules that they had outlined us to follow.
Working as a call center rep was literally the worst job I had ever had. Not to mention the fact that nearly all the people there were straight-up blobs bitching about how "terrible" their life is.
