Arma is absolute fucking cancer. In any given "serious" milsim group, you will have:
>armchair general, who yells at everyone and is roleplaying as R Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket
>a bunch of enormous fags who use obscure military shorthand and jargon (that even the military doesn't use) because they think it makes them sound tough and legit
>an awful lot of stolen valor
If you have a strong stomach for faggotry then go have a good time, but I simply find every single group I ever played with to be genuinely and legitimately unbearable. It's like being around a LARP crew, except instead of them pretending that they're knights and necromancers, they're pretending to be gruff, grizzled war veterans and it makes me want to fucking puke.
That said, Squad is a milsim-lite and it's exactly what I like: just as detailed a ballistics system, none of the power-tripping roleplay, slightly diminished scope (smaller maps, fewer "make-work" things to do such as navigating, etc). If you played Project Reality, it's made by the guys who made that. DCS has some great, detailed flight modules but make sure to do your homework before you get into any - some of the modules are super detailed and realistic, like the A-10C or the UH-1H. Some are really arcadey and aren't much fun.
