Didn't think so many anons wanted a KUUURRAAAZHHEEE Samurai Jack game. The trailer seems very unfinished in terms of graphics but not gameplay surprisingly which gives me hope on the part of the devs but the publishers in this case aren't exactly known to be big brained individuals who know how to maximize profit.

Getting nip developed games from former great devs based on shows from our childhood or teen years is a weird feeling. I got it with Transformers Devastation, being my dream Transformers games and now this? I'm don't want to go hoping for someone out there to make something like, a Megas XLR game or SEGA to make Hot Wheels Acceleracers with Eurobeat from their F-Zero / Sonic Team Racing team or…I dunno, tri-Ace and Tri-Crescendo making a PowerPuff Girls games? Or Team Ninja based on their MUA3?

I really don't wanna go through with hoping for good games again.

I haven't played Devils Third for myself but even if it is irredeemably bad, which that I doubt there is probably some neat stuff in it, but that's not the only thing that should be used to judge this Samurai Jack game.

Valhalla Games was founded in 2008 and assuming Devils Third started some form of production at around that time, it took the game until 2015 to actually release. It bounce from maybe being a Xbox 360 game, but Microsoft only wanted to shoe horn in the Kinect into every game at the time so it wasn't published by Microsoft, THQ then was publishing Devils Third, but then THQ went out of business, then Nintendo of Japan picked up the game for it to be a Wii U exclusive only for Nintendo of America to pretty much refused to have anything to do with publishing it until they were forced to by the end. I'm sure i'm missing details there. Either way Devil's Third had a development hell that was just goddamn ridiculous, and it's highly doubtful such conditions will be effecting this game since there's simply a goddamn publisher from the get go.

The Soleil website says they had "Something" to do with Travis Strikes again, not sure what? but when it comes down to it That Naruto game is probably around the level of quality that could be expected from this Samurai Jack game. Even then that Naruto game has some kind of focus on Mutiplayer which would effect it's overall gameplay balancing, this Jack game is presumably singleplayer so who knows what the hell we are all in for.

Okay, are you going to give me actually points as to why there isn't a single interesting thing about Devil's third?, or are you just going to tell me it's bad based on the fact others have said it is bad.

I'm not saying Devil's Third is secretly a masterpiece, but it probably still has some novel ideas in it even if the execution wasn't everything it could be. I have to admit whenever a game has the option of switching from 3rd person to 1st person that's always something that gets me intrigued, so I am interested in giving it a shot someday.

Even then Daikatana is actually a suitable comparison as a game that probably also has neat ideas in it, I'v yet to play it but there is a fan 1.3 patch that was released that smooths over it's bigger issues, and I'd gladly give it a shot someday when I get around to it as well.

It just dawned on me : I think I understand what Devil's Third tried to do more or less.

I honestly can't be hyped about Samurai Jack stuff anymore unless it intends to follow the original plot Gennedy was going for instead of the last two episode change.

Itagaki resigned as a game maker, he didn't resign from Valhalla Studios. He's still there, helping with the coding, helping with the recruitment of staff, teaching the ropes etc. There was an article about it, a year or two ago I think where Itagaki explained all that and said how he found happiness seeing new talent rise and do their own thing. And he mentions that if he ever gets stocked again he might consider making a game again.

SAMURAI JACK'S FINAL SEASON: what a fucking let down

On and off /co/ lurker here, i followed the whole season from start to finish in 2015. In hindsight, the fifth season is just a mess of fucking plot riddled with asspulls and a hacked budget. Prepare for my absolute disappointment that i felt when the final episode aired.

I split this into 2 episodes because of how much they tried to cram everything in these two episodes

What a shitshow that was, however it was possibly the only time in recorded history of 8chan where almost the entirety of /co/ hugged together to get comfy and made OC out of the show when it was still airing. Some anon made a chart of the episodes, but I think he stopped after he has seen how shit the final episode was. It was a golden time to be in /co/, and I was glad that I get to be a part of it. Still, I don’t know how much of the blame on this wreck lies on. I certainly can’t blame Genndy since he’s a good jew who is right now, the only great modern western animation director that I could think of. I can’t really blame the network since AS only promised a season, a step up from the movie they started off with. It’s just a shame really to see such potential wasted through bungled budget and misplaced plot points.

Considering every other CY++ reboot/revival/whatever in western countries, Samurai Jack was a pleasant surprise.

Namely, it was overall watchable, and didn't destroy absolutely everything that came before. Flawed, sure. But leagues better then its contemporaries in the west. If you want an example, go into some of the other threads where Star Wars is mentioned.

My problem with Jack's S5 ending is that it's a mixed bag. It started off great, but fell off a cliff story-wise near the end. For me, that's the most infuriating thing about it. It could've been great, and probably even better, but it's not. Though to their credit, they certainly exceeded the original expectation for the first episode. That's how good they were. Once you've seen the bar of expectation that the first three episodes have reached, you really can't go back.

Sure, i might have high standards, but who doesn't? You're right that the show is still beauty to look at, and Genndy certainly doesn't skimp on the animations as always. But all that is just a medium to service the story, and the ending still garbage. Thinking about the final 2-parter really soured my experience on the whole season.

For me, there is nothing more enraging than wasted potential.

I agree, the fact that the first three episodes were so good makes it so much worse.

The setup initially made it seem like Jack had seen his countless allies die and his little victories undone time and time again over the past 50 years which is what made him jaded.

But then, Ashi sees that not only are all of his old allies they alive, but their lives have been improved greatly by Jack's actions; it's like they tried to build up to Jack realizing he was stuck in the past which was causing him to be blind to the good he had done and that he needed to let go and move forward.

What really fucked the ending was Ashi's "I have aku's powers!" ass pull and the shit at the end when his old friends show up to free him and he doesn't seem to react at all when aku slaughters them.

The comics managed to have a better ending by having Jack realize that there is no way to undo the past and the only path is to push forward to defeat Aku and make a better future, that would eventually lead up to him fulfilling the prophecy the guardian showed him.

Ashi looking like an ant eater did not help.
