I never understood the autism about it and people who tried to compare the bust of her chibi/low-poly model in PS1 FF7 when she's been nerfed ever after that in media. The DLC will either be stuff that's new, and therefore shouldn't really even be in a remake, or stuff from the original that should've been in from the beginning. It could also be the worst of all: badly remade things that can be replaced with badly remade things that are more like the original if you buy DLC. My real question, though, is what will happen if the console generation changes between games? We we get the remake of the remaster so you can finally play the entire damn game at once? What will happen if they pull a Valve (or almost any other episodic game series dev) and just never release the second or third episode? What happens if someone plays the second or third episode without playing the first or second? What if the first episode is so badly received that Square feels they have to rework the second or third episodes in order to not lose money? What if all the FF7 fans are too old to play games before this shit finally comes out?

So far it doesn’t look like it’s making the exact same mistakes XV did. Characters look to be extremely responsive and quick, and enemies look to respond to your attacks for the most part. It’s got the KH2FM team on it, including the combat director who was thought to be retired after Dissidia 012. All these things bode well.

What has yet to be seen is the claim that they’ve stretched Midgar out to be the size of a full game in and of itself, because 64 bucks for part 1 of a remake sure doesn’t sound good to me. If it's a title released in the same market it was developed for, or one intended for worldwide release in the same time frame, it'll usually be printed before it has the majority of bugs found and ironed out, enabled by the "we can patch it later, maybe" culture. Staggered western releases of Japanese games can have the benefit of using an existing patched version of the Japanese release as the base version to build on for what we get in comparison, but obviously localized versions can have plenty of other problems. Being that Square-enix is a globally-minded company and Final Fantasy popular worldwide, I would not be shocked if it gets printed off before it's actually ready to be played (which sounds increasingly dumb when one considers that they fucking split the game into multiple installments) in order to meet deadlines.

Really though, the issue at hand is a mixture of "patch it" culture allowing developers to be cheap and lazy and publishers to push them to rush shit out faster, as well as a sort of insurance policy against CFW on the console/handheld platform holder end, in that to download patches you usually need a combination of the internet being enabled, the user logged in, and sometimes a higher system firmware requirement than just the disc/cart is asking for. Not that CFW can't have OFW spoofing and manager applications to install patch files from USB/SD without needing an internet connection, but those can take time to develop, and if people really want to play a game they're interested in a more optimal way, or even play it at all, most are sadly going to be willing to sacrifice possible future utility in order to do so. In short, both publishers and platform holders expect the system to be online and up to date in order to push the fact that the game that got shipped isn't optimal on to the consumer as being their problem now.

Nothing deluded about it. The monetization with this game is a definite negative, but the team developing the core gameplay is really solid, unlike the case with XV where Tabata sort of Frankensteined the whole thing together. One thing that does concern me about the core gameplay though is that, like XV, the game started with one team (CC2) and switched to what is basically the KH2 team halfway through. I really like both teams but whenever you have something like that happen in your games development it often goes south.

THE BASE GAME ALONE WILL COST $240USD plus taxes. On top of that, there's day 1 DLC for each episode (available "free" with preorder), later released DLC for each episode, special edition exclusive DLC for each episodes, and quite possibly a season pass for each episode. I would not be surprised in the slightest if the total pricetag of this game managed to the beat the total pricetag for whatever Dead or Alive game went maximum jew some years back. Not in the slightest. Not only does it feel like FFXV, it's only part one. If you want to make a good gameplay system you have to have the endgame system in mind from near the very beginning of making a game. With a multipart series where, for a period of time, the fucking director didn't know how many parts there would be, this is impossible. They have no idea what the endgame combat is going to look like, or even the mid-game combat. Each and every part is going to require a fucking mountain of patches to the previous parts to make the game balanced and the difficulty curve proper. And it's going to fuck up whatever might be good about previous parts every single time it happens. The only possible scenario where this isn't a giant clusterfuck is one where they make the numbers far more important than the gameplay, so things can be easily adjusted. And that will give you the absolute slog that FFXV was all over again.

Portable KH isn't bad, specially on a technical level in the DS. 358/2 Days is underrated as fuck, and if there is a KH game that needs a re-release, is that one, Re:Coded was trash, though, but it managed more than 358/2 days. BBS is the closest thing you'll have to KH2FM in quality, DDD is alright but too little content and no Final Mix to fix it I think the HD version added some things, but I'm not sure.

I'd say KH3 failed because it was worse than KH1 in terms on content with a lot of useless fluff things that adds nothing to it in general.

KH3 failed for a variety of reasons. Unlike the A-team, this appeared to be B-team's first big game. Unlike KHII which chose and polished drive forms with movement abilities, KHIII just shoves in a ton of shit mechanics from the portable games because it's what the team knows, and nothing is polished. The story was fucked this time and not in the fun retarded way of the previous games. Gummi travel was tedious, boring, and the gummi missions are trash. The game was clearly rushed out early to make Squeenix's financial quarter look better, resulting in Critical needing to be patched in later and the postgame being released as DLC. Most of the final bosses are recycled from previous games and gimped so they can be challenged in groups. I think there's only 1 fucking non-story boss, and it's a fucking heartless. FF characters get the axe and so does the now traditional Sephiroth boss fight. There's no colosseum either, despite Hercules' world being present. It's all so fucking terrible. I 100%ed the game on critical. Luckily, I was not the one who bought it.

How can you call a job "localizer" if it's point is not alter a product for a different specific locale but purely to suggest alterations of objectionable content? Firstly, just because most of the censorship seen in games is the responsibility of localizers doesn't mean "censor" as a job within the industry doesn't exist. Their censorship is simply less apparent because it happens at the development level. NoA once almost got the opportunity to be promoted to censors of Nintendo games, since their localizers end up censoring so much, but I think Nintendo pulled back on that. Their censorship is not visible to the consumer except in special cases such as remakes, both of my two examples, and leaked information, such as the interview where it was revealed they requested that Tifa's bust be tightened up. The second mistake I think you're making is thinking that I'm defending or downplaying localizer censorship by making a distinction between the jobs and bringing attention to those who are censors in action and title. I am not. Multiple groups of people in different departments with different jobs can both be responsible for different instances of censorship in videogames.

That's pretty much it. Your job as a localizator probably consists on knowing what to change or how to adapt it. When someone says sensei, there's nothing wrong with translating it as master or teacher depending on the case, UNLESS you are referring to a doctor, calling a doctor master wouldn't make any fucking sense. And that's it, that's what you need to change stuff.

Another example I really like is the use of honorifics, if someone is being polite in japanese they probably would use honorifics like san a lot, and in some cases this is fucking important. Leaving "san" is fucking lazy, so I think the person acting very polite should make up for it, and I know it isn't very common in english, but that's irrelevant, that's what the original source material wants you to know, that this person is being polite by using these honorifics or ending sentences with "desu".

To put it simple, I think it isn't about changing things so your public can understand something, it's more along the lines of knowing how to use both languages to express accurately what the source material wanted to convey.

And there's a very very hilarious and simple example: Americans don't use the metric system, so if you are translating simple instructions like measurements, you do NEED to localize them because americans are the only ones who still use inches instead of fucking cm. And there have been cases of flaws in designs because people don't take this into consideration.

When you have to change something as simple as that, you know why localization is a thing. Even if you don't change inches to centimeters, inches can be translated to other words in different languages. In spanish, inches is "pulgadas", and so on and so forth, and "an inch", doesn't exists in spanish, because "Pulga" is a different thing, despite that being the ethymology of the word, unlike english. "Pulga" is flea.

The reason people hate localization so much is because it's used in a retarded way to push for an agenda or to change something that undermines what the source material wanted to deliver. A good example is the whole drama of what happened with Goemon recently. I did this once, with an RPG in a franchise that I was already familiar with (Digimon), and it worked. It was just slow as fuck because I had to keep taking pics with my phone and running the OCR software. Now Retroarch has that built in, but the problem is that you need to make an account on an external website if you want to customize the area that the OCR reads, and doing that is pretty essential if you want anything readable. If they could build it in so I could do that while playing just by moving a highlighted box on the game window, it would be way easier.

It still comes out kinda weird sometimes, but if you know a bit about what you're playing you can understand it.
