From Japan to the JewSA, all I see is low effort cancer with no cohesion, it's just minimalism, round edges, clashing art styles and a complete lack of effort and detail.

EVERY game or anime with wide capes and pauldrons lost them or toned them way the hell down. It's like "80s hair" I guess, in that it's a design characteristic that instantly makes average people think your crap looks outdated. Spergs, I guess, would complain too loudly that the pauldrons didn't do anything and the capes would just get in the way. But we still have armor that doesn't do anything and ridiculous unrealistic weapon and clothes designs. I don't get it. It's fantasy. I don't necessarily want realism or even common sense.

Toriyama suffers from not only sameface syndrome, he also has sameclothes sickness. His style also never really evolved - take Magus from Chrono Trigger for example, he's pretty much just a Piccolo recolor, this time with hair. Admittedly his work isn't too different but its clear enough to see the difference in character which is enough. I believe that a lot of kids myself included were very much inspired to play Dragon Quest/Chrono Trigger purely because of Toriyama's art style. I wouldn't call it sameclothes sickness because you can clearly see the distinction in most other characters like Ayla/Marle/Lucca/Chrono. Hell, frog doesn't look anything like the regular beastmen he draws. Regardless, for some reason that eludes me, when I play dragon quest/chrono trigger I disassociate it with dragon ball which is whats important at the end of the day

Calarts won't be adapted for the sheer reason that main stream gaming is reliant on muh realism.

To even use pixel art that would match such designs still requires a large amount of effort, defeating the purpose of it.

Calarts is usually made to be easily massed produced, something games do not tend to do with internal assets.

I honestly don't get why Radiant Historia apparently needed one either. Hirooka isn't a bad artist on his/her own (same person that did Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia's characters), but the original has a real sense of darkness to its shading that almost feels like part of the game's identity, and in which losing it feels really noticeable. Though, that's not getting started on the drastic change in hair style for Eruca up there. Wasn't her previous look intentionally done to make her stand out?

Of course, I really don't think Strange Journey or Radiant Historia even needed to be remade to begin with. The originals hold up well enough, and then there's the fact that the system they were remade for could still play the originals as is.

Technically speaking they don't all look the same, but they're all feel the same and they aren't iconic or stand out in any way. They blend together within my mind into an amorphous blob of uninspired derivative garbage. When you put them on chunky low poly WoW characters they do look like silly garbage instead of outdated 80s-90s anime armor. It's the same piece of armor used in a similar way, yeah, but the end result is completely different. Like you said, I too have a hard time saying what makes them different that can't be dismissed as nostalgia for Japanese beanpole cartoons. Honestly, it probably is just that.

Hovewer Overwatch looks way more professionaly made. Even though characters are generic and full of soy. Even huge women like Zarya or May have no ass. Widow is so thin it's a literal spider. Skins in overwatch are so fucking bland it is painful, the rarest most diverse skins still look almost exactly the same as vanilla.

Paladins used to have a cool system to mix and match parts of skins, sad threy scrapped it but it did get some more creative skins instead.

Also game wise paladins is just way better than overwatch, but that isn't hard with how bland blizzard made it.

The role of concept art isn't to be an artistic work, like a painting or whatever, but to exist as a point of reference in creation of the game. In some projects they just take raw pictures or something existing and put that in the game. So I can appreciate these hack methods being used, you're trying to design something and often by ripping something off without being the thing.

Consider the Mass Effect games for example, they basically pilfered Syd Mead's art wholesale. In the second game they just lifted a costume from Farscape for Shepard.

As long as this is what it is intended to be I see nothing wrong with it, although a cohesive and more properly developed art direction is always better in terms of aesthetics. Most games don't do that though.

The cop and the man two down from her are decent enough. The red haired girl is a bit hard to tell but I'd but her on the same level as the previous two.

The bottom man on the left it's too hard to tell because despite the 6 images of him only two have a decent comparison and he's covered in a cloak for those.

Otherwise there are some pretty big differences, especially the guy that became a girl. The newer ones do have some advantage over the old though, their eyebrows are actually under their hair as opposed to floating in front of their head and there's a lot less white. Was probably for shading, but it just looks bad with the exception of the sleazy guy, could add to his look, and the red haired girl's black clothing that I think might be some type of shiny material.

Considering you're looking at designs over decades not surprised there's been a lot of changes. The most recent vampire and mage look laughable, but the dragon's not bad. You can even see how they've been wanting to do something like that as far back as 1996 with the blue dots in his wings which came back stronger in 2002 then they were able to go all out in 2012. Not a huge surprise they went a bit overboard considering the tech was finally able to do what they wanted.

Nice trips but, you're fucking wrong. .32presumably ACP is a pistol round and so is designed for a short barrel. A pistol round out of a hunting rifle length barrel will have less velocity if anything. Cartridges are designed with pressure curves matched to certain barrel lengths; this is why chopped down carbine lengths, especially sub-carbines, create fuck huge muzzle blast given the same cartridge us as the full length rifle.

The 32 pistol does 6 damage you fucking nigger. It's the weakest pistol in the god damn game. The hunting rifle does 25 damage. Also the velocity of the 32 bullet wouldn't cause a greater wound, the wound channel would be mostly the same. The higher velocity would make the bullet travel farther and drop less. Fucking kill yourself.
