Capcom released a netcode update for SFV that doesn't actually fix the netcode, but instead bans you for having netcode-fixing mods installed.
Apparently Capcom saw all the bad publicity Atlus was getting and was determined to not be one-upped as the shittiest video game company in Japan this week.

There are anti-consumer moves, and then there's shit like this.

It's inevitable. The bis overgrown, moribund corporations eventually collapse and die from their own internal rot and then a space is opened for a new and lively company to take their place.

For one big companies are largely to entirely out of touch. They just exist in a reality free bubble up at the top.
Another problem is that they treat their customers the same way that drug dealers treats theirs not realizing that the two business models aren't comparable. Drugs create an almost unshakable dependence in their users. Entertainment media on the other hand only sells until it stops being entertaining. The corporate big boys think they've "got the nerds hooked" and they'll be hooked forever. They can't conceive that fans of entertainment can drop their shit cold turkey when things stop being fun.

No one is threatening them. Games are effectively a monopoly now that AA is dead.

It's funny because this almost bankrupted capcom a few years back. Resident Evil Remake's Remaster somehow pulled their ass out of the fire.

Did people think the "netcode fix" was going to fix netcode for the players?
It was going to fix the netcode for Capcom, nothing else. Once a company gets to a certain size, "fixes" are employed solely for the company.
It's like the old adage: "The bureaucracy will expand to meet the ever-expanding needs of the bureaucracy."
At this point Capcom exists to serve itself, and will die doing so. They no longer serve actual gamers/customers.

It did work for them for 6 decades, currently by how things are going i think they could've been perfect quality purveyors and things would still be the same, nobody would buy their shit not because it's shit but because first world users no longer like the physical medium.
Music, cinema and video games follow the same rule of hooking (via social pressure by marketing or nigger cattle formula) and it seems to be working for 15 years now. I don't want to nigger pill things here because there's always quality creators, but they simply aren't the priority by the population nor they want to look for them other than advanced users/self-serving individuals.

Basically they were a small publisher who bought up THQ's extra backlog, ported over a few games, made a few new ones and bought smaller studios with the money from said ports becoming a growing force in video games.

I know that bit, but what caused them to go that route? Had something to do with the CEO or major share holder I thought.

That new gothic game doesn't look too different from the other shit Piranha bites has been putting out lately. At least from what I can tell.

Barely. THQ Nordic is an outlier. There really aren't really any western AA publishers in this industry aside from them.

I miss AA and A too. The great thing about them is that while they allowed a high degree of indie-style experimentation, games were still made by professional carreer devs who had publishers and investors to answer for, which among other things, meant ideas and concepts that were too retarded or unpolished would get axed. It also meant the titles would still go through QA and playtesting before release.
This all meant most AA and A games still had AAA or near AAA levels of polish, presentation and at least some degree of proper storytelling, plot and fleshed-out characters. Very different from all the Unity and UE4 asset flips that flood digital stores today. I think both easy-to-use, readily available engines and digital stores also have some blame in the death of AA and A.

Crapcom also put on-disc DLC in the newest release of Street Fighter V:

Those new lively companies must never receive any support either. End this idiotic cycle. If a company becoming rotten is the natural outcome, then never buy anything. Pirate everything while it lasts, and abandon the industry when it crumbles.

Without the internet and mass spread information. It is impossible for any company or industry to keep existing with those practices in our current world. Consumers have all the power.
Anti-consumer practices + digital only = mass spread piracy OR total abandonment of the medium. Companies have no power in this.

Literally everyone agrees that nothing is going to get better. Anyone making quality will be ignored and bred out until AAA companies and the indie clique are the only things that exist in gaming. There is literally nothing we can do to reverse this downward trend, just like every downward trend in this world.
