I've felt a deeper connection to my pawns in Dragon's Dogma than I have to any other RPG/JRPG. Even though your pawns aren't fleshed out and are given their own unique story, or that their dialogue is random quotes throughout traversing the world and fighting monsters. I still felt like they were valuable to me. You actually grow bonds with your pawn you created, or even from the pawns in the rift that real people created. The fact that other people could use your pawn and rate it and you'd get rift crystals for how many people used your pawn showed how valuable your pawn was to others. The fact that when a pawn is unconscious you have to aid them by picking them up rather than using an item through your inventory, or else they die and get sent to the rift. You actually feel like you go through the struggle together.

Good graphics?

Good combat that consists of more than hit vital points til it dies?

The definition of great but deeply flawed. Love the game, haven't been able to find one that comes so close to being a good action-rpg D&D game while still retaining its own identity ( Dragon's Crown and D&D SoM are pretty good, but they are more like brawlers). It really deserved a sequel or "complete" remake that fixed all the issues it had. If a second one is released one day, I wish that combat is developed even further, with more basic attacks and combos for each class, more skills, and fixing some like Warriors' lack of skill slot, merging all enchantment spells into one similarly like Dragon's Dogma Online did, bigger bestiary, and more character customization, also secretly wishing for 4 players multiplayer, not MMO but more like MH
As for my confession, as of late I tend to restart far too many RPGs if I get bored of my build or feel like I made some mistakes. I actually got tired of one RPG because I restarted it too many times; Pathfinder: Kingmaker, although I'll say I also found some issues with its combat system and design that bothered me, but probably will still finish it some day.

My confession is that I don't really like Platinum games that much. They make pretty fantastic combat systems but they suck at level design, they tend to use a lot of quicktime events, their worlds are not as atmospheric as some others, and some of their characters so are juvenile that I can't come to like them all that much.
Also, I suck ass at multiplayer, and I've come to realize that the majority of people who thinks\ they're good at games because they're good at single player portions of games have a deluded sense of their level of skill, excluding some exceptions of course.

I used to play games in most of the large genres. I've disliked even the idea of most games since I-don't-know-when, but I openly criticize ones that I don't play, have never played, and don't ever feel the need to play. We're not talking about the usual stuff people dislike with soy and politics sneaking into games. New RPGs all sound like they have bad ideas, promoting multiplayer features I don't care about, ugly realistic graphics and character designs, or totally-opposite batshit Japanese color and flash designs. Action games are about being technical and ugly. FPS are progression treadmills in multiplayer with no interesting single player to speak of. All indie games feel half-assed and unfinished because I've had ground into me continual releases of free or paid content after a game is available to play, or because the game's only declared "finished" when the developers get tired of making money off of early access nonsense. I haven't ever felt a connection to a character made by an indie game studio, because most of them have next to no personality, have shitty character designs (such that I'm rolling my eyes when I should be commiserating) or are dealing with uninteresting problems.
I realize that I'm probably the one who's changed and yet I'm going to keep blaming the games. My confession is that I don't care about what any other gamer wants besides me.

I unironically like Call of Duty past 3. WaW, Modern Warfare 1, and 2 where fantastic.Black Ops 1 and 2 was also great, skipped 3. 4 was meh, stopped playing after they locked new guns behind a paywall, really liked they got rid of health regen and had a slightly longer TTK. Kinda like nuModern Warefare but it has it's issues, but overall it's ok. Very much disliked Modern Warefare 3 and Ghost, stopped playing for years because of these two. Didnt even bother with Infinite Warfare.
I originally liked Fallout 3 when it first came out without playing any of the previous games, was nearly obsessed with it til I played it more and more and got bored, eventually realizing it was shit. ESPECIALLY after playing Fallout 1, have a hard time getting into Fallout 2 since it's a bit of a rough start if you aren't playing a unarmed or melee character. New Vegas is obviously the best and I pisses me off how much was cut because of Obsedians retardation and Zenimax's unrealistic expectations. Fallout 4 was a improvement overall in gameplay for the most part, I think there was some things it REALLY lacked compared to NV like quests but the fact they stripped the RPG part of it and fucked the original lore turns me off. 76 can fuck off.
Fighting games are shit, unless you consider Smash Bros. a true fighting game, which I don't. Painkiller Black edition is also the most overrated thing /v/ has recommended to me in terms of shooters. I've been thirsty for a good new racing game but I've yet to see one, and I am cautiously optimistic about Cyberpunk 2077 despite the controversy hereI know a guy who is bosses with the lore of the original book or some shit, he says the tranny shit is a thing in the lore and is not exclusive to the game, as much as the devs pretend they came up with it themselves.
Also I want to fuck and impregnate Gardevoir for the last 10+ years.

I have no idea why people always praise Vanquish and act like it's all crazy action all the time. The overcharge system or whatever is incredibly fragile, there's tons of bullshit insta-kill attacks, and there's plenty of sections where you play it like a cover shooter or die (ex: the hilltop climb). Crysis takes the same concept of a super-soldier who has to constantly manage his suit energy and does it way better.
Platinum makes great boss fights and mediocre games.

That reminds me that I have another confession. It'd be really nice to be a troll type of game dev who makes exactly what I want to make exactly how I want to make it, and damn sales or fun or other people liking or even appreciating it. My ideal game review would have lines like "I enjoyed the hell out of this game, except for that that one insufferable faggot that shows up in all of ANONDEV'S games. Why does he insist on including hidden references to that unlikable shithead in everything he makes? It puts them all in the same universe and retroactively fucks up any attempt at making his games have a continuity." It would be a wonderful feeling to insert a reference to a character that everybody hated from Unique Game Property A into Unique Game Property B, and to drink the tears of fans of both properties as they try to reconcile all the bullshit problems that this introduces. Not that I'm implying that Taro ruined anything with Emil: I mean that it'd be fun to one-up him by doing it with a character designed to be hated by everybody. Maybe I'd silently patch a game months after release to unlock references that would poison the canon well; there'd be this button I could push labeled "all fans weep now" and I'd hover my finger over it daydreaming of all the angst that would be caused if I decided to push it. The best part is that I could be a terrible person and generate enormous ill feeling without actually harming anyone, like if Nero had farted all over Rome instead of burning it down.

Interesting opinion. Skyrim's skills system is certainly unique, but other than that I can't really see anything particularly ambitious about it when compared to the giants that came before it (both in the Elder Scrolls series and within the broader RPG genre). Is that a sincere opinion or just an instance of contrarianism? If sincere, what do you find to be most ambitious about it?

What are the complaints people have about CoD?
>It's too easy.
>The campaign is too scripted (should be open like half life instead).
>You can't mod it
>No custom servers
But all of that cancer applies to every other modern game too. What game these days allows mods? What game has a campaign like half life did back then? Which by the way is also heavily scripted. And what the fuck is this bullshit about it being too easy? Every modern game released these days is piss easy and people still fail at them.

I legitimately don't understand what some people see in Conker's Bad Fur Day, in terms of both the gameplay and "humor." It's been a while since I beat it, but from what I remember it was nothing but repetitive puzzles and some platforming here and there. I thought the Great Mighty Poo was sort of funny the first time but everything else is written like Family Guy but if it didn't rely on cutaway gags. The only part I remember liking gameplay-wise was towards the end of the game where Conker registers for the army and the game parodies Saving Private Ryan. The final boss was also pretty shit. I didn't mind that it parodied Aliens, but making the boss fight itself the same one from Mario 64 except with shittier controls is the worst way I have ever seen a game end. Rare should've just stuck with the collect-a-thon they were making in the first place. Conker really proves that listening to players is not always the best way for a company to make a game.
>>16848277 (checked)
This doesn't make sense to me. I thought the reason the people who enjoy modern FPS do so is because of these things (easier difficulty, instant lobbies) or they just don't mind them (lack of mod support). If they really needed mods and custom servers then why would they be playing modern FPS in the first place.

Oblivion is significantly more ambitious than Skyrim (and Morrowind, for that matter, though Morrowind is a better game than either). Skyrim's a little more polished and a little less ugly in vanilla, but Oblivion attempted to outright simulate stuff that Skyrim just fakes. In the case of what was released, that’s true, but from what I remember the final product was not what Rare wanted to release at all. They were going to make another game like Banjo-Kazooie, starring a less vulgar version of Conker. When they revealed the game to the public, people criticized it for being another “cutsie” collect-a-thon. As a result, they sacrificed what could’ve been a decent platformer for the overrated shit we got. If you care at all, there’s some footage and screenshots of the prototype here: https://tcrf.net/Prerelease:Conker%27s_Bad_Fur_Day

I forgot about that part. This and the amount of context pads throughout the game makes me wonder if they revolved the gameplay around it due to the retarded decision to remake the whole game, incompetence, or both. Banjo-Kazooie obviously wasn’t as fluid or well-made as Mario 64, but at least the game revolved around exploration, primarily through platforming, and wasn’t a terrible interactive comedy movie with the only way to keep it going is by pressing a button on a pad in the game.

I think dragon age 2 is a great game. I understand the flaws but it still had some good old bioware magic in it and in some ways, I liked it more than Origins, not overall though.
It also has a great cover, we don't get many good ones these days.

I genuinely enjoyed Assassin's Creed 1. I thought the setup missions were a realistic approach to finding out intel for assassinations and that the story and setting were interesting.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. I liked Sunset. For those who don't know, it's about a woke black girl being a maid for a rich guy and he takes part in a coup against some mean fascist. It's cheesy and she probably got bleached but I like it.

Remember the times. "Edgy" wasn't a meme word yet, and when a big and well-known dev/publisher allowed for a giant singing shit in a console game, it was seen as cheeky and provocative. Being outlandishly juvenile (ala South Park) and especially scatological was still relatively ahead of the mainstream in America and something that American console games really hadn't done before. Today it just looks silly.

Why is this "video game confessions", it's just true and there's nothing wrong or shameful about it, the pawns had more life in them than any scripted character ever could. They even had a simple AI that could learn from you, like if you unequip your lantern before crossing a river so it doesn't get wet, they'd start doing it too after observing you doing it.

you are simplifying the whole situation a lot. Pretty sure a lot of game devs wish their game was as popular as cod. But their games are not shit because they try to copy cod, their games are shit because they are developed by niggers and faggots. Most game devs these days are just bad at their job.

I'll also recommend if you couldn't get into the original to try Zero Mission and AM2SR, as they are pretty much well done remakes of the original, with more content, better controls and some features of later titles that improves the game play drastically. If you don't like those, perhaps try the Prime saga to see if you like the formula in a 3D environment more. If you don't like those, perhaps you may enjoy other games of the same type like Hollow Knight or even Ori, even if it is a bit short and linear.

Until after 3-4 years after I started posting on /v/ (around the time of the exodus) my default difficulty setting for almost every game I played was easy. It's still only normal. I don't find that most games actually become any more fun on higher difficulty levels. Exceptions exist like Smash where it's braindead on all but the highest difficulties, but that's generally the case for me.

My whole computer games life story reads like a confession in my mind. Some bits, unchronological:
>last year i finally bought a smartphone (shit purchase), after a bad experience from going at work trip equipped only in a dumbphone , spent almost whole year playing Super Stickman Golf and Alto's Adventure/Oddyssey
> i logged god knows how many hours in to a game i haven't seen so much as mentioned on /v in my 5 years lurking here: America's Army 2, i guess only slavs like me and brazillians played it. We are talking about +5000h range
>i bought my first computer and console ever (a laptop and then brand new PSP at full price) at 20yo, with my first own, earned money
>i couldn't see Deus Ex as more than collection of fun but disconnected maps, i actually laughed when Jock died, thats how bad its storytelling was for me. i should probably play it again

Original metroid isn't very engaging. Try Super Metroid. So far it's the only 2D game in the series I actually like and I consider it to be a perfect game with no flaws and extremely intelligent design decisions which is why it's one of my favorite games of all time
I still haven't played any of the 3D titles.

Having been spoiled by modern platformers, going back to the classics is honestly jarring to me.
It's not that they're harder, but they play so differently. There's often a lot of momentum and inertia going on that feels so weird, I had this problem with Sonic as well. You can never really go fast in that game 90% of the time because you'll be running into shit.
I've never beaten SMB, either. I enjoy it, but I've never beaten it. The way its movement works is all sorts of jank compared to modern games, my brain refuses to learn it.

DD is the opposite of weeaboo. It's a westoaboo game; the devs tried their hardest to make a WRPG.
