If you are tired of the middleman known as Western Distributors censoring and fucking over Japanese games to appease the Resetards, then try importing games from Japan.

This thread is for gathering info on how and where to buy Japanese imports, which import comes with "Asia-English" and if such games have translation patches.

You are also encouraged to learn Japanese as well.

You wouldn't buy services and products from Western Anime distributors for Anime, you shouldn't for videogames either.

ebay and play asia have been the best bets in terms of this stuff

ebay for getting really good deals through bids and pricing people down, play asia has a lot of stuff new (if you care about that) as well as nice website orginization per console and some exclusives on it

if you pirate, you can get better translations for stuff like the nep games and undubs for a big portion of the 3ds library

I get my imports from ebay. Old PS2 games are surprisingly cheap. I want to get a Japanese version of Twilight Princess for GC but it's over 50 bucks so fuck that.

Jap games are often censored as well now though.

Depends if they're on the PS4. Thanks, ku-Sony.

Disgusting. Either modernize the graphics or don't. Doing a mixed aesthetic is terrible.

I do get what you mean but localizers changing shit on japanese vidya has been going since old times though. Dragon Quest is the perfect example of a serie cursed by by bad translations and the 4th/5th gen of consoles were full of similar examples.

Japanese PS1 and PS2 games tend to be cheap as far as I've noticed (even more if you get a reprint instead of the original run), I even got the chance to buy a few of them brand new for no more than 20 bucks on ebay & else. They're generally in pretty good condition, my sole disappointment so far was a busted copy of Armored Core 3. For some reason it was really hard to find PS2 isos on NTSC-J format on Internet, Emuparadise and Romhustler rarely had things i wanted to find.

My PS2 jap collection only really lacks the Siren games. There are other cool japanese games on the PS2 like Gitarooman, Boku no Natsuyasumi, Summon Night, Kenka Bachou, Disgaea & other NIS games but they have a PSP port that often include extra content so it's not really worth to get them on PS2.

Nintendo games get the 'Nintendo tax' no matter what.

It's a case-by-case thing, Sony isnt clearly consistent but that is whatmakes it all confusing. I cant say for the PS4 but some of the last jap games I've played on Vita didnt look affected by whatever bullshit policy like Yumeutsutsu Re:Master and Eve Burst Terror

Even with that problem taken into account, the fact remains you're still safer with the original japanese versions over the western releases. Only exceptions of jap games with gruesome visuals like Killer 7, Resident Evil/Biohazard where it actually preferable to play the western version because of the gay cero ratings.

Might help when the system is region locked and the games in question the sort you'd need knowledge of the language to enjoy, or where there's a standing English release. Probably lowers export demand and prices since they're of (more) limited interest than ones that don't fall under those.

That and the fact the games in question fall into the niche/obscure category. Horror and shmup games tend to be very pricey however like Rule of Rose still being in the >40euros range for a JP disk even if that's still far less expensive than the US release.

I used to have a lot of imported Vita physicals but I sold them all since there was no point in keeping them between the sd2vita adapter taking the game card slot and the patches/updates often required after the piracy scene matured. So I cant say I'm much a collectorfag.

Other than them btfo'ing SJW's le epic style their prices are absurd and some games collectors editions come with less items than they're supposed to, like Eiyuu Senki missing two metal keychains while costing much more than in Japan+shipping.

The best way to import is to find a friend or a proxy shopping service that will help you find the stuff you want.

I dont recommend Play-Asia either if you're living in an europoor country for the reason that the website changed its shipping method a few years back which inherently fucked you over with customs everytime. I bought in the past tons of japanese PSN digital codes from Play-Asia without a single issue however even if the currency value conversion was a bit fucked up.

Jap sellers on Ebay often undervalued the price written on the package which was a plus in my book.

Might be worth noting that Echo Night II has had an English patch for a few years now. Think everything else is as it should be (aside from typos), but I could be wrong.

>Dark Cloud

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a definitive version of Dark Cloud. The English version has a terrible translation, but the Japanese version doesn't have the improvements in gameplay made to the English version, and there is no director's cut version like Rogue Galaxy.
