Does Rune Factory 4 Special change or add anything significant? It would be great if it gave you the ability to deliberately trigger those random events. They were the only thing I didn't like about 4 aside from the huge downgrade in waifu quality from Rune Factory 3.

I literally emulated a month ago because I was too lazy to pull out my 3ds. It's super easy to play with whatever hacked rom you want these days. So I wouldn't really call the undub a bonus. The studio did close after RF4 was released so they might've not had the budget for it, this makes RF4S even worse because they didn't add any of the cut content back but instead just added newlywed mode and a hard difficulty and nothing else.

Maybe it was just me but when I played RF4, I found Ventuswill to be written like a bachelorette in RF3 so I was disappointed when you can't marry her, all of RF4's bachelorettes are really lackluster compared to RF3.

You start with a farm, go out into dungeons and the world to find shit to plant/cool weapon and spell shit, catch monsters, clear dungeons to get potential wives and husbands, catch monsters by throwing food at them that you made yourself, run a shop, do social shit to get party members, make equipment to hit shit really hard, and get fucking killed in the bonus dungeon because the difficulty spike on that shit is beyond any fucking game i've ever seen.

The most powerful monsters you can pick up for early game are little mini-boss fairies you can find around the map. You can also recruit most of the bosses, I think, as long as you've beaten them before.

This generation has been pretty good with simultaneous releases, I've gotten used to it. So now when it happens it takes me back a bit. It's not like the old 16-bit days where we'd get copies of EGM with news about US and UK releases but we wouldn't see them for another six months.

You can also upgrade 10 shit weapons with whatever trash you find until they are all lv10, and then upgrade any item with 10 lv10 items for a insane boost early game, I mean being immune to damage and one shooting everything until about the first "final boss"

If you recall to last checkpoint right after the death animation for a boss, you can farm every single boss forever in a single day, so you can use and abuse the boss items to upgrade every single piece of gear you have.

The first trick is used to breeze through the first ending before summer, the second can be used to grind Grimoire Scales or whatever else you fancy, so you can shit on the rest of the game.

Also, you can have the insect girl and the horse dude on your party when you sleep, if they fuck off, there is a high chance of the Memories event triggering, so you can save scum it to appear before the first fall for a quick win

PC port when? I only get Switch versions when it's absolutely necessary.

Nothing has been said yet, only reason TSA: NMH and DxM got ported to the PC is because they used Unreal Engine 4. But DxM was a massive fucking success on PC so maybe marvelous will finally expand Rune Factory and Story of Seasons to PC.

For some dumb reason when I pirated it, it didn't want to install. Turns out it seems to require 9.0 for some reason, even though I'm pretty sure the game came out in Japan well before 9.0. I'm too lazy to update, but given ACNH and W101 are coming out and will probably require it too, I should consider doing it soon. I can recommend RF4 in general, had fun with it on the 3DS.

Its funny because almost every parent in RF is single, and as far as I can recall only the first game has any kind of reconciliation between lost lovers. My guess is that either the director/developers comes from a broken family background, or its just to keep from having to introduce two tertiary NPCs to every child. Hilariously, when there is an option to play as your avatar's child, one of their parents(your former player character) go missing too., though you do find them later.

RF4 wasn't the first to have bachelor options, RF2 had 3 bachelorettes and bachelors in the 2nd gen with 7 bachelorettes in the 1st gen and ToD had 3 bachelors with 9 bachelorettes, the 6 we get in RF4 is certainly a step back from RF3 though.

Considering RF4 was the best selling of the series, they is a high likelyhood of them continuing having both equal bachelorettes and bachelors in RF5, I'm hoping they are at least a step above RF4 character wise otherwise the only thing that improved was the gameplay. I see now, I’ve never played Rune Factory before so this rerelease was my first one. I kinda just assumed that they were pandering to a small audience and that adding the bachelors was the reason the bachelorettes, from the gist I’ve been getting from the thread, are worse than the previous games and with half the number of the previous games as well, since I wish you could romance Venti, Illuminata, Eliza as well. Hell, just from design alone I like Pico the best since I like lolis, but unfortunately like the others she isn’t an option. Just looking at the previous games bachelorettes makes me like them better based on design alone, especially Raven, who even though is in the game isn’t romanceable. It could also just be my bias for wanting more female options to romance since I’m not gay and not into playing as the girl.

Anon, you don't understand. This isn't just about dicking the girls.

Most of them have actual character, personality and interesting character arcs to the point that you kinda wish there was a way you could be there for all of them.

A good example would be Shanon in RF3 that at some point starts writing about you in her diary and eventually her grandfather comes asking you what are your feelings for her. This is triggered by advancing your relationship with her, but if you were wooing some other girl, it feels kinda bad that you can't reciprocate when she's such a sweet girl.

It's even worse when you do though, if you know the arc of other characters and how they likely won't be solved because you didn't woo them instead.

A better example would actually be Katawa Shoujo since so many Anons wished there was an harem route just so they could help and fix every girl.

Best option however would be to wingman all the other bachelors to woo the girls you don't end up dating. That'd play out an entirely different arc with you helping your bros getting laid so the next generation has several couples around.

I would say it's been a mistake in that SoS/BM have declined in gameplay since the Wii. They're now horrible grindfests with shallow characters. I really hope Rune factory avoids this at least keeping the gameplay still relatively deep. If they do this I can forgive them spending time on female character / bachelors.

This is why I love RF over SoS, the gameplay is really good, RF4 improved a lot from RF3 and generally each new entry brings huge improvements and more options compared to SoS which feel like each game has no passion behind it. Maybe I just don't enjoy the "farming" aspect as much as others but RF always had a better balance of gameplay to farming instead of just being a farming sim.

It's honestly just a matter of opinion, but I've never liked harems. I've thought about it and I don't think it's impossible to truly love more than one woman. But it's sort of an issue of having your cake and eating it too. Being able to have it all just sort of cheapens it for me. I can't really explain it.

I don't think this is common knowledge so I'll post it here:

If you bring some villagers to certain story/dungeon events, you may get can see some special dialogue. I know bringing Forte into the mansion for the storyline is one such event. Xiao Pai when you return to the Forest later for the story as well. I do not know any other personally but I recommend always take villagers with you for story events. Also anyone who got married and had a child before the first dungeon, let me know if bringing your child changes any events.

Another thing, the third arc allegedly is no longer RNG based. I have not made it that far yet but it's what I've heard.

Yes correct. That was just an example. It's possible some other villagers may freak out at the mansion, too, but that's the only one I know for sure. It's good to experiment around with different party members and see what other hidden gems there are.

Can you take them to that location later on and still see the same line or is that just the first time?

I knew about Forte since I took her with me to the mansion for several reasons:

1- She's a strong fighter and helps a lot when playing on hard

2- She's Best Girl and I was wooing her

3- I'm currently reading "How to treat a Knight like a Girl" and forte fills the role really well

4- Most important factor: I knew she was afraid of ghosts and wanted to have some fun at her expense.

However, I'd like to know if I'd have seen the same lines if I took her later or if other villagers would have something different to say since otherwise it feels like I'm kinda missing out on content.

I'm not completely positive but I think you have to do it your initial playthrough of the dungeon. I could be wrong, but I think it's a flag in game to check if you have a certain party member with you once you reach a story cutscene.

Also, I'm not positive but since you theoretically can get married and have a child before doing any story quests, it's possible your child could have dialogue to add on certain scenes. There's also the potential for requiring a certain combination of allies to trigger dialogue as you can bring two villagers with you at a time. I only know for certain the two I mentioned above though.

I was the same way my first playthrough. Villagers start off pretty weak except Forte. But give them some good weapons and a few level ups and they're stronger than some boss monsters you can tame.
