Basically 2K fired Dan Houser because they wanted to pump out Grand Theft Auto games quicker and Dan got the fuck outta there. GTA6 is gonna be such a shit show when they finally make it, it's gonna be sad and also hilarious in the same way Star Wars is dying. I'm just hoping they do a full blown reboot with the next Saints Row and take it back to how SR2 was. I'd be frustrated if I wasn't expecting it. Anyway here's the official quote.

If that will lead to a decline in overall profit we'll have to see, it happened with Call of Duty so it's not impossible.

The way i see it, there's a few clear options really.
- Continue on with the DBZ approach and make an even bigger map with aliens being the bad guys this time around
Unlikely, considering how quickly they burned out going from 3 to 4.5
- Reboot the game with a return to the serious approach
This will risk alienating your audience who only wants the oh so funny meta humor and reddit memes.

I don't know for sure, but frankly, unless Volition can come up with an original idea, one that isn't just Saints Row in a different coat of paint, they're probably fucked. Newfags here don't realize Benzies was the big producer who called all the shots and was also the majestic errand boy that kept things oiled up. When he got out for being jewed the Housers were finished, death on the water, they were just stalling.
If anything the Housers made things worse over the years killing studios to half-ass complete RDR2, and even RDR3 supposedly also took its toll with some college graduates from the GTAV era.
GTA IV and Midnight Club 4 will remain their sad last great games, sad because both had great potential to develop into something better, not storytelling garbage with bad physics.

Not unexpected, they all have enough money to retire. The in game cash whale trap multiplayer tie in is more popular than the single player. They are at an impasse. Short singleplayer with even more multiplayer for future GTA's. But you already know this. Sleeping Dogs 2 sounds better than anything because Saint's Row went too ridiculous to be taken seriously. Vice City had the perfect balance but it wasn't divine intellect enough to set a standard.
