Has there ever been a good isometric action game?
I just tried playing Light Crusader on Mega Drive and holy fuck, it's like pulling teeth. It even tries to do isometric platforming, which wouldn't be a problem, but they use platforms at different heights with no way to tell the height of the fucking thing. The sprites look exactly the same!
What were they thinking?!
I love Treasure, but this is their worst game by far.
Fuck Light Crusader.

Crusader: No Remorse was a pretty good isometric action game. Syndicate (the original, not the FPS reboot) wasn't bad either.

Light Crusader is pretty decent, despite the trouble with jumps in isometric perspective.
Also, Skeleton Krew is pretty fun, and I love its 90s-edgy-comics aesthetics.

Talking about good isometric games would be more interesting.

Solstice for the NES does isometric platforming fairly well. It's rare that you can't tell something's height and position (though it does happen sometimes). And Tim Follin's title screen music is fucking fantastic as is all his work, but that's a topic for another thread
its sequel Equinox for the SNES is less ambitious about its platforming but still decent

Just gave Crusader a go. I really liked it, but fuck it has not aged well. Collision detection and aiming are janky as fuck. Playing as Red Boba Fett was fun though. If it ever got a decent remaster or a proper remake I would play the fuck out of it.
>>16830614
The Strike series was fun. I don't recall there being issues with Z levels in those games.
>>16830621
Loved Equinox on SNES, though I had to quit on the boat level as it gave me motion sickness for some reason (and since the dungeons get exponentially larger as you progress it would have been a looong fucking dungeon.
The trick of clearly demonstrating height by stacking blocks on top of each other, and having other blocks relative to that height, does a great job of mitigating Z level guesswork. Light Crusader had none of that. Just thin floating platforms with no reference.

That's the shitty Ultima 8 engine, movement is somehow driven by animation rather than the other way around. Crusader would have been a fucking awesome game if it had a 3D perspective, but it was still too early for that.
I tried all the various control settings, but none of them were any good. Still made it through the game somehow, but it was pretty awkward. I like how you had all those cool moves like crouching or rolling to get past traps, and how you could blow things up or take control of drones to wreak havoc.

Crusader's exactly the kind of game I would expect to get a remake one of these days. I'd also expect the remake to focus on the wrong thing–like the dozen or so different ways of killing guys with different death animations instead of being a decent isometric shooter. There must be something hard about making real time action isometric games, because nobody has bothered to try and remake or fan-remake things like Crusader or the * Strike games. Sure they're all simplistic, but I would've thought some amateur would've thought they were a great place to start learning.

It's got faggotry in it though, because the modern perception of greece is one that endorsed faggotry. So if you're autisitic about optional dialog having fags in it then don't play it.
