Recently I've been looking at beta builds of games, and at times it's shocking how different they turned out from the final product.
For example, did you guys know that Splatoon was originally going to star 'rabbits, not squids?
This wasn't just a placeholder thing, either. That was tofu, as in the food.
They designed characters, made models and animations and even created promo art. They made way more art than I'm posting, but 5 image limits and all.
They'd hide in their paint-colored shirts instead of diving into paint like the Inklings do.
It didn't stop at rabbits, either. All the characters were anthropomorphic mammals; Jelonzo was originally a bird, Sheldon was a tanuki and Captain Cuttlefish was a terrier. You can see their early designs in pic #4. Obviously their names were different at the time. The only one who didn't change was Judd
It would have stayed this way if not for the fact several people at Nintendo didn't think it made any sense for rabbits to fight territorial battles with paintguns and ink, nor did it make sense why they were hiding in the paint. The team went back to the drawing board and came up with the squid idea instead.

Something else I thought of.
You know that Ryan's Toy Review racing game? Well, in the folders there's an folder for dev files that come from an earlier point in development. In it was an unused texture for Ryan's face, the first three faces are normal, but the fourth seems to contain a dead and bloodied version of Ryan with his mouth stitched shut. The current texture for comparison.

well the game was called sonic unleashed so i can see why the werehog in chains would be a concept. since i'm going to guess the unleashed mode would be breaking them, maybe Sonic Team was too lazy too implement it or they thought it looked like shit then again the werehog in general was

Devs do stupid shit all the time with crap they don't expect to be seen, like drawing or writing stuff in areas of textures that aren't used. Maybe they do it less often since the ratings boards getting burnt by unimplemented content, but I doubt it.

Have you ever seen this game in your local arcade called Uchuu Daisakusen Chocovader Contactee? It's about western cryptids and they basically all get a little minigame. It's one of the funnest most gimmicky arcade games I've ever seen, and the concept and humor of it is fucking outstanding. Check the embed, it's some gameplay of the Flatwoods minigame. There's one for almost every "close encounter" sighting in the west, mostly America.
My only regret is that I'm not quite skilled enough in Japanese to understand everything but from what little I can read, I find very funny. Playing the levels is even funnier, especially this particular minigame, as you will see.
