So I went and bought, then proceeded to hack one of these minis with project lunar that I picked up on sale in. Thing has 42 games on here so far, looks like I could cram another 50 or so on here with the internal storage it gives me. Any suggestions? So far I stuck the missing phantasy star games onto it.

monster world, monster world 4, golden axe, shining force, and ecco the dolphin, are stock thankfully. They have this weird theme of only putting one title of each franchise on it though. No idea why they'd include more space than needed on the board. I guess they assume people are gonna mod them? Apparently segacd is in the works, and it can be done with a usb right now as long as you have segacd bios. I can get retroarch on this thing and turn it into a snes if I wanted lol.

The only thing I'm ever curious about these emulators is if the controllers are worth a damn, and if it is moddable.

They did a much better job than Niptendo did with their minis. Made their controllers nice and long (theres 2 in box) and they use usb. According to the project Lunar's github it can support most 16 bit games using retroarch.

I've only had a few minutes with mine.

It's pretty good for what it is. The replica model of the genesis is really nice, very detailed, even has a functional door (I want to get those mini-cartridges they showed off in a demo but I don't think they sell them).

My only real gripe with it is the D-Pad, it feels kind of squishy and wobbly, not really as "impactful" and tight as the original genesis D-pad. Original Genesis D-pad had a more rigid and shock-absorbent feel to it. I just hacked my SNES Mini only to play fan translation romhacks for Japan-only SNES games. Thinking I'll do the same with my Genesis Mini.

What justifies their price? Seems you get jewed for buying one. For less money you could get a Rasberry Pi or something and never shut the fuck about it.

Because it plays on original hardware, not emulation. At the very least it allows playing games emulators choke on. Even with games the emulator doesn't just absolutely refuse to run, a lot of emulators still lack more subtle features. For DS, a flashcard is also the only practical way to naturally use all the random features packed into the system (which some games, like The World Ends With You, actually use)

It's also considered bad practice in rom hacking to make a hack that won't run on original hardware, since that tends to require a specific emulator and specific version of that emulator at that. Everdrive is the only practical way to really check if a hack does work on original hardware.

What about the price? I doubt the components cost anywhere near the asking price. The DS flashcards were much cheaper, costing around 20-40 dollars if memory serves. I understand the appeal of using original hardware, but of the consoles everdrives are available, which have lacking emulators?

Price is all over the place depending on console and model, low end Genesis overdrive is only like $50USD, and there's cheaper chinkshit if you want to go that way. SNES is one of the pricier ones. Price differences are not (primarily) due to jewish business practices. ofc you can just emulate (excepting maybe some N64 games? Dunno the current state), in fact there are some things that can only be emulated and won't play on a flash cart, but anybody far enough down the rabbit hole to compare flash cart models knows about emulators. Naturally I wouldn't load a rom onto a flash cart unless I already own an official copy of the game, but it's nice not to have to mess with switching cartridges.

SNES is expensive because SNES games often included extra chips on the cartridge itself to squeeze more power out of the hardware. SNES flashcart has to account for that.

Better than most of the other "Mini" variants, but most of these things can be done better by slapping retroarch onto a micro PC board. Cheaper too.

Everdrive is a huge jewish scam, it doesn't make sense for a simple flash cart being so damn expensive. They even put drm on their firmware. Also I garauntee you the whole bullshit "cheap flash carts are killing your console goyim, better buy an Everdrive" was started by them.

Game selection is fantastic, emulation is good, menus could use some work (especially those grating sounds), and the controller feels like a cheap knock-off of the real thing. Seriously, playing Landstalker is an absolute pain with it.

Most people that have roms already illegally downloaded them.

Many people normally don't have roms if they have the cart.

Also, you are legally allowed to make your own rom dump from your cartridge as a digital backup, however it's illegal to download a rom even if you own the physical.

in America, thanks to a loophole introduced to copyright law in the mid-2000s, it is legal to freely acquire and redistribute any software that has not been sold in the distributed form for at least 4 years.

downloading genesis roms is legal, even if they are available through online sale, genesis mini, etc. as the cartridges haven't been sold for a very long time indeed
