>The Norwegian Consumer Council raised issues with Nintendo over the inability to cancel eShop pre-orders in February 2018. Following that, the German Consumer Protection Authority (VZBV) took Nintendo to court at the end of the year.
>A verdict has now been reached, and Nintendo has won the case. The German courts determined that not allowing cancellation of pre-orders is legal. Although the decision has been appealed, there may not be movement with the case for up to a year and a half.
>Once a game has been pre-loaded from the eShop, consumers are unable to cancel that purchase. Even if the game hasn’t been released, you’re still required to follow through on that order. This was thought to be in violation of Norwegian and European law, but the courts thought otherwise in this case.

Doesn't this mean that devs can't cancel games if it has preorders?

The main problem seems to be the pre-loading part- once you've pre-loaded it, the courts are probably treating it as already in your hands. That's a vacuous interpretation but I guess Nintendo's lawyers are good at tricking judges.

Nintendo seems to have a fair amount of luck with PAL courts. I recall them winning something last year in regards to getting ISPs to forbid access to websites information on how to hack/mod Switches out there. Which isn't to say they haven't also gotten their way other times with American Courts (like them not only suing some Arizona based ROM site for millions, but the owners also being barred from ever owning Nintendo games again), but I wonder if they could get away with the same shit they have in Europe as readily here.

This is going to lead to the same mess as "GaaS" where you DO own the game, but it's literally unplayable because the company shut down the servers required in order to play it (Along with the company sending C&D orders every time someone tries to fix the darn thing).

>pre-loaded
There's the rub, this isn't allowing game companies to refuse cancellation of pre-orders, just to refuse refund when the pre-ordered good has effectively already been delivered.
At least I hope that's the actual verdict the court reached, otherwise all you europoors out there are extra-fucked if you pre-order games
Most importantly though,

Everyone has panned them as looking like Pokemon energy, which is actually a fair criticism. However, I'm quite fond of them, because instead of having a generic landscape, they're "emblems" of the game's mana symbols, which I think looks really cool. In terms of flavor, they're in a !Greek plane called Theros, which is full of Enchantments, and these are supposed to be constellations.
I am actually gonna buy and hoard as many as I can, as long as I can get regular ones at under $0.25 and foils under $1.25

An old story from where I live:
A guy lent money to a gypsy family.
Took a lot of convicing (because the gypsy kept "forgetting" he owed money) but eventually he paid back.
Only, a few days later, the gypsy insisted he didn't pay back a debt. He had lent money to the man. Bullshit, clear as day: the guy had a stable job, good income. The gypsy had a drug addiction and no money.
He hounds the guy for a week, he refuses to pay. So the gypsy kidnaps him at 2 AM. Just bust down his door, took him screaming, nobody knew where they went.
They got the guy to a shack in the woods. Wanted his bank cards and codes.
So the guy knows what's up. They'll take the codes, withdraw as much as they can and ran away. He gets a dumb idea: he bets against them. It's illegal, but some folks here play card games for money. He says if they'd play him, he'd make up his "debt" and clean their purses. They take it as an insult, and play him.
Now, things don't go well for him. He did win most of the games, but everytime one of the gypsies lost, they'd get angry. And stab him.
Over the course of 3 days, he got stabbed over 40 times. Legs, arms, hands and at least twice in the chest. He still manages to keep playing. They rub cheap whisky on the wounds and pull his shirt apart for bandages, but keep him on the table.
Some get so mad, they storm out, only to return later. So the guy starts edging bets against individual players. Imagine you win money from one guy, then bet that money against another. But you lose. Now you tell the first guy "hey, that fella there won your money from me". Personally, I only think this work because they were also drunk as shit. And was a dumb risky move because it implied losing more and more, to the point they'd kill him.
Luckly, he managed to do what he wanted: one of them got angry with the other. Fight breaks out, they start stabbing each other. To the point one gets scared enough he'll be shnaked, he fetches a shotgun from a truck and discharges it on another. A second later they realized that discharging a fireweapon in the woods a couple miles from a village means someone will come searching.
The guy they nabbed is slouching on the ground, half-dead from his wounds, there's 3 of them actually legit dead (one from the shot) and the remaining one flees.
They managed to save the guy, and he still has a memento from that time: one of the cards got stuck on the table by a blade and a few of the shotgun pellets pierced it, so it's this peculiar card with a slash in the middle and two small holes on a corner.
People can pull off shit like this, especially with enough adrenaline. Can they actually survive it further down the line? Very unlikely. And surviving without long-lasting effects is nearly impossible. The guy lost 40% of his intestines and limps from a leg (dead nerve).
Junko had it much worse. Even without being set on fire, she already wouldn't have a long life. Fuck, if she DID have a long life, it would be terrible and filled with pain from wounds that would never recover. Physical and mental.
Small mercy she died. It's fucked up to say it, but unfortunately, it's true.
Also: there's a reason noone went after the murderers. Their family are still Yakuza. Going after them meant signing your own death warrant. Even today, speaking ill of them is courting disgrace.

Holy fuck, how young are you? I'm only 22 and even I've known about this since I was a teenager. Personhood for corporations exists for tax purposes and to be able to legally bring the corporation itself to court instead looking for the first employee they can find to shift the blame on.
