I never appreciated how sick the music in this game was until the 8ch SS13 server threw this on the jukebox. Yeah, I heard it all, but it never really sunk in until I heard it outside of the game. Honestly I get kinda sad when I listen to this song. It really reflects Deus Ex. There's just something unique about it that wont be seen again.

When I think of DX, I think first of the title track and then of the first-time-around NYC streets combat music. The first because it's the first thing you hear and it's iconic for that reason, and the second because it doesn't sound like it should fit in the game at all, and somehow it still does. The goofy sound effects helped. It's funny that it all sounds strange outside the game, but it works when you're actually playing it.

Now Tyrian had some good tracks. I actually would put the little sound test widget in the background sometimes back in the day. But the decision to hide almost all the plot (such as it was I admit) in optional collectables (in a once-through shmup no less) was ahead of its time and not in a good way. I kinda wish some nobody would remake Tyrian. It doesn't really ache for it, and it's not the kind of shooter people like these days, but it'd be nice to see for nostalgia reasons.

Overcuck, Call of Duty, Fallout 76 and Rainbow Seven Siege for example

It really depends on the devs, MCC PC, Fortnite and Mordhau for example are pretty lenient far as I know

It's so bad you get banned for finding or exploiting glitches now, not just a slap on the wrist from a certain server like in the old days, no you get banned from playing their game.

When you said strats I thought you meant literally playing the game as intended and getting banned. I remember a dev in League banned someone on his team in the draft stage, because he picked a champion that wasn't meta. Like he picked a traditional carry to do the support or some shit like that.

>It's so bad you get banned for finding or exploiting glitches now, not just a slap on the wrist from a certain server like in the old days, no you get banned from playing their game.

I think the funniest example of this was Fallout 76. Every newer Bethesda game has a development room with every item int he game and they left one in Fallout 76. From what I understand this was suppose to be an MMO were you spend 100s of hours grinding gear, and yet if you did the right glitches you could get it all within minutes of playing. Bethesda's devs were too fucking retarded to figure out how to just REMOVE THE FUCKING ROOM, so they had all sorts of janky fixes. Attempts to make the room inaccessible, banning everyone who was within the room, etc. None of them worked. Honestly it blows my mind how game developers can be so incompetent, there was a day when they were the cream of the crop in terms of software devs.

If they were ever the cream of the crop, it was because they had to work wonders with limited hardware, over and over again in different ways for each new generation of hardware. Whether it was working in tiny memory spaces or with tiny physical media or with shitty early 3D rendering, or whatever else at the time. What passes for problem solving these days is usually of the order you're pointing out, like working within the limitations of some silly software engine. I guess also there're just a lot MORE of them out there and the average ability to solve problems is probably lower because of that. It's not something that's exactly selected for by the industry any longer. Of course, I'm just talking out of my ass, but it's probably fine.

> I guess also there're just a lot MORE of them out there and the average ability to solve problems is probably lower because of that.

I don't know about game programming, but it cannot be any better than the rest of the enterprise software world. Management wants programmers who can easily be replaced, so that usually means that everything has to be built around the lowest common denominator.

A lot of programmers know little more than what they learned at school, and so you get to just throw shit at the screen until is kind of sort of works (i.e. passes all the automated tests and a code review by someone who is no more competent than you). It does not matter if the way the work done is inefficient and will end up costing the company more money in the log run, all that matters is that we can keep pushing on for the time being.

Video games used to have the advantage that you would release the game, perhaps patch it around for a couple of months, and then be done with it. However, in the modern age where every game is expected to run for years this approach breaks down. Every Elder Scrolls and Fallout game has been broken garbage, but there was always a point when the game was done, shipped, and left for modders to finish. Fallout 76 on the other hand requires continuous support, something Bethesda never had to deal with and something they are not equipped to do. It looks as if they approached Fallout 76 with the same mindset as their previous games, and now they are paying the price for it.

My favorite playthroughs were stealth combat. I've ghosted and gone through blasting everything with the sniper rifle and white phosphorous rockets, but the best is baton+peppergun. Some gimmick runs were fun, too: only use the crowbar, or the sawed-off shotgun you find in mission one. These are loud, underpowered options, which don't recommend themselves to any serious purpose.

It was always a dead certainty to me that the Helios ending was the obviously correct choice. For 15 years I couldn't conceive of any reason why you would want to hand things over to the Illuminati, much less blow everything up. Lately I'm not so sure Tong was totally retarded.

The issue with the Helios ending is that it's an all-or-nothing option. You are putting blind faith in an AI by merging with it and are thus gambling on the outcome. An AI that is most likely only telling you things you want to hear because it would make you more likely to do what it wants you to. While for Tong's ending it is wiping the slate clean and starting over again: it is guaranteed to work but it is also the most devastating.

The thing about Tong's ending is that it's pretty much what you said, starting over again. There's absolutely nothing stopping some other corporation and some other Bob Page to try this shit all over again. And of course, fuck the illuminati I don't trust you for jack shit.

Honestly, I'd rather have the super intelligent AI govern us than the typical clique of out of touch faggots thing that has repeated itself over and over again. I believe that even if it doesn't have humanity's growth as it's top priority it could totally do a better job than what we've been having thus far, and I'm willing to take the bet that it's trying to kill itself or us all for super intelligent AI reasons.

You have to take into consideration that it isn't a simple 50-50 gamble even if it is an all-or-nothing situation. The underlying architecture of the AI is based on whatever the Illuminati programmed for it. Sure, it helped you fight against them a little bit, but that could very easily just be self-preservation on behalf of the AI. It evaluated the data and saw the possibility of you taking it down, which is something the Illuminati thought would be solved by simply creating a killswitch. Tong deactivating it made JC a significant threat again. So upon merging JC ceases to be a threat: it could continue the activities set out by the Illuminati now that there are no more urgent threats on it. Helios was a combination of Daedalus and Icarus, one being the Illuminati's AI and the other being Bob Page's AI. And regardless of which one Helios leans towards more, it is still a combination of both even if it tries to convince you that you are its new master.

Yeah, the whole Daedalus/Icarus/Helios thing is based on IRL glownigger tech. Alex mentions it being based on ECHELON.

<Two internal NSA newsletters from January 2011 and July 2012, published as part of the Snowden-revelations by the website The Intercept on 3 August 2015, for the first time confirmed that NSA used the code word ECHELON and provided some details about the scope of the program: ECHELON was part of an umbrella program code named FROSTING, which was established by the NSA in 1966 to collect and process data from communications satellites.

You'd merge with it and suddenly be like "we need to give more money to israel."

I don't think the devs would have known about ECHELON at that point, although it certainly isn't out of the question, but while on the topic of glownigger tech, we may as well mention JADE II. Which is something that Raytheon boasted about programming so well that it can predict civil unrest for the population of a city in advance and that it can pre-emptively determine when a general is going to defect against the government. And the fact that it is intended against the people internally and not the enemy is demonstrated by Jade Helm 15, which was a military exercise with a suspiciously small number of soldiers across multiple states (1200 soldiers across seven different states). With the exercise being about fighting American insurgents. The main difference relating to JADE II is that it relies much more heavily on data collected by the NSA for predicting behaviour, especially when it comes to spending patterns (since those tend to give away when people are up to something).

Also by 1200 soldiers across seven states, I mean 1200 in total and not for each state. The states were California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. Texas and Utah were labelled as hostile, while California, Nevada and Colorado were friendly. Arizona and New Mexico were labelled as uncertain.

ECHELON was known of before, it was merely confirmed by the Snowden leaks. The phrase "conspiracy theory" was invented to discredit people leaking shit about the government's doings (besides crazy people spouting 100% crazy shit like aliens and time travelers, some of them pushed into believing it more).

I've done 2 playthroughs recently, one a stealth pistol/heavy weapons hybrid that's actually much more powerful than it sounds and probably the most powerful build because it can handle any situation, and one straight action rifle/shotgun build with no training in lockpicking, devices or hacking that made me realize the assault rifle chews ammo like a motherfucker and doesn't even do that much more damage than a well-upgraded pistol.

I did both with the Give Me Deus Ex mod which is definitely faithful graphically, basically looks the way you remember the original looking other than some obvious changes to TV screens and signs. It lets you put a silencer on the starting pistol which I thought was OP and made the stealth pistol obsolete, but it also adds some new weapon mod kits including a full auto mod kit that can make the stealth pistol into a ridiculously powerful auto-pistol so I think it evens out.

Elephant in the room: Do you use passwords and codes that you already know or do you make a point to "learn" them on every playthrough?

If by "known about" you mean "believed in" then probably they did not. The author was a shitlib to some degree, and it's only by bizarre, mostly-recent phenomena like the Snowden leaks that a lot of the "conspiracy theories" in the game are now established fact.

Also, I misquoted earlier: it was Jock that broached the subject:

<Copters. You know what I think? I think that's where the UN moved Echelon IV, back when they promised they were going to stop spying on people.

>implying the government would ever make such a promise, lol

>>16819210

Kinda the latter. I tried to verify that every challenge had a corresponding solution. There's that closet in the Osgood and Sons building with the aug upgrade in it, for example. Keypad. No idea how you would know the combination for that one, but it probably is written down somewhere.

Speaking of places we're not supposed to go, what are everyone's out-of-bounds experiences? The few I remember:

FORBIDDEN CITY in Hong Kong There was a hard-to-reach map transition over the river-gate near the sampan, full of unlit, broken geometry that was left in the release.

One of the desert levels had walls that you could climb up using grenades and escape into the wilderness.

And of course, in Wan Chai you could climb one of the skyscrapers and see Max Chen just standing there. And also enter Tong's compound before Gordon Quick gives you the entry code.

>blow up the hostages 10 times in my attempts to kill everyone at subway station

I can't believe what I just read. Those were innocents; you can't just go in and shoot everywhere!

Went all in on melee combat the first time I played. My favorite strategy was to throw a gas grenade at a group of troopers and then use the Dragon's Tooth on them. Also GEP gunned a whole bunch of stuff. Never even trained computers so I had to find all the computer passwords. Also didn't know the regen aug was a thing until I came across it so I got advanced in first aid. Went with the AI merge ending because why would you choose the other two shitty endings? The major flaw in the game is that you can't kill Bob Page AND choose the merge ending.

Put points into pistols, rifles, lockpicks and electronics. Modded the pistol, crossbow, and sniper rifle extensively. Used the targeting, radar cloak, and leg upgrades. Pretty much only used lams as mines. Mostly knocked out people who I thought weren't really in my way, like the marines in the boat base. Saved Paul, learned both mech killphrases, saved the guy's daughter, took out the mechanic in the illuminati compound. Merged with Helios because I just wanted sneak from the conflict and help people, accidentally became god.

I think the part about promising is more about the government supposedly coming clean but doubling down instead. A decent example would be how the US government does shit outside what the law permits and then, when the pressure is large enough, passes a law to make it legal to do the very thing they were doing to begin with. Like how there was a law passed during the Obama administration that would allow the president to order assassinations of US citizens. Although there was an existing executive order banning assassinations, this one magically doesn't count because it only targets those that are a security threat. For which there is no actual trial or evidence necessary. But the government doesn't count it as an assassination because it is only for security threats, so it gets counted as "targetted killing". And before Obama no US government official has ever had any US citizen ordered killed whatsoever, not a single one.

On realistic you can (in a few instances) get oneshotted by snipers who, because you don't know where literally everything in the game is, will probably spot you before you spot them. Other enemies from the midgame onward will have automatic weapons that will shred you in the time it takes to fill your hand. Many situations require more preparation and sensible tactics than reflexes and sheer rip-and-tear if you're to come out without taking a lot of damage.

If any of that sounds like unfair, unfun bullshit, then I'd recommend the difficulty below realistic.

I can never go back to vanilla. GMDX turned Deus Ex from one of my favorites, to perhaps my absolute favorite game.

Will we ever have a game like Deus Ex again? It doesn't even have to be in the same genre with the same gameplay but just a game this quotable, fun, consistent and iconic.

The only thing I can think of that comes even remotely close is Stalker.

Paradoxically, the only way to get the experience of $my_favorite_thing is to throw out most of one's assumptions and start from scratch. This requires a lot of creativity, which is a muscle people don't know how to flex anymore. We're the generation that's watched so much porn we can't even masturbate to pictures inside our heads, after all. It also requires a degree of mental freedom which most have had utterly beaten out of them by the diversity police.

So while it is possible, social pressures are so much against it that it'll only happen when people like us make it happen.

When I first played DX way back in the day I had been conditioned to think most games were short as shit so as soon as Paul and Jock are like, hey you're going to ching chong kong ""get in"" I was astounded. And then the game keeps going. And going… Wasn't until the very end that I felt like things weren't as tight as before but even up until Area 51 it was still incredible.

The sheer volume of content in vanilla DX is astounding and just embarrassing when you consider how empty, loveless, and short the majority of new games are. DX made the most of the engine and using great writing, world building, art direction, and sound design every part of the game is iconic. something about the soundtrack for HK canal areas that is just so perfect and lonely

The game is the high water mark and nothing will ever come close which makes it even more frustrating how badly they dumbed everything down and missed the point so badly in HR/MD. HR isn't the worst but it's stupid and the whole aug thing is boring beyond belief

I'm always a little surprised when people push back on me saying HR was doesn't measure up in some ways. They like HR, I understand. They like throwing refrigerators at people and punching through walls and shit, but what did it say that was interesting or quotable, or that anyone would want to explore a second time because you felt like there was more to it? 'I didn't ask for this' is a fun line, but only on the level of A BOMB or my vision is augmented. The best stuff in DX wasn't all that memetic, like the conversation with Morpheus, or the conversation with the bartender in Old China Hand. A dozen little things, mostly off the course of the main game, rather than the things that are in your face all the time.

Some aspects were kind of interesting, like how having augs would amount to being an AIDS patient, constantly dependent on a drug to survive, and living at the mercy of your pajeetware "system upgrades" and being trivially hacked.

That's awesome. Most people I see trying to do that get frustrated with the weird collision detection. They're a little too far away or not quite centered or angled the wrong way when they swing, so the game counts it as a limb hit or something. Then they get shot when they thought they were being clever. If you spec into melee, do yourself a favor and hang on to the peppergun. Or some fire extinguishers. tbh you should keep an extinguisher anyway, for when you get set on fire.

Another lesson was that if there is a situation which requires a multitool, it can usually be solved with a bomb instead, and in the case of turrents it is sometimes best just to run past them.

Finally, I learnt that I could backgtrack to areas which seem blocked off to me by builing stairs out of metal crates and trashcans. I had to pull some pieces from the bottom and put them on the top, a bit like jenga I guess, but it worked out.

The game seems to think I kill people even though the bodies I leave behind are specifically labeled as 'unconscious'. I mean, I killed some dogs because the game doesn't allow you to spare them, but I'd hardly call that a 'bloodbath'.

I still haven't picked which aug to choose from the previous mission. I guess the obvious one would be combat strength, but so far I've been able to take out everyone by smacking their backs, I can't think of situations that would involve me using it without me taking damage, which I've tried to avoid. Maybe it would enable me to break some of the higher durability doors and such.

Also, Deux ex predicted vacum robots pretty accurately in comparison to most scifi I've seen

>The game seems to think I kill people even though the bodies I leave behind are specifically labeled as 'unconscious'.

The game's not always very smart about how it interprets JC's behavior. For example:

>Mission starts, anna spawns a few feet away

>jump around and hose her with pepperspray while she tries to tell me my mission objectives

>she doesn't rub her eyes, but the pepper gets her to back off momentarily

>flee into the secret vending machine entrance

>anna's pathfinding can't get in, so she stands there looking in like a sad puppy

>enter castle clinton through the back

>spook through to the front entrance, open the door, recede into shadows

>anna rushes in to tell me the mission objectives

>notices terrorists; does not neglect precious opportunity

>all the terrorists in the area run directly into the anna navarre meat grinder

>the courtyard of castle clinton is a graveyard

>I'm still crouched behind a garbage can holding my peppergun

>finally let anna talk to me

<You are not afraid to kill!

IIRC, that particular scene determines how the NPCs react to you after the mission, and it has little if anything to do with your actual bodycount.

>arm aug

The strength aug lets you lift huge crates, which gives you some more options when constructing "staircases" and is fun for screwing around with. The combat aug might be useful when enemies are beefier later on. I would almost always recommend strength, but in a melee-centric build you have an actual choice on your hands.

What's that? You're saying that a strong government comprised of educated men who eschew their basal urges and strive to become better versions of themselves is necessary to the facilitation of a free state whose citizens can own property, make a profit, and make their lives?

Well, some characters are are at odds with each other no matter what. What I meant was that some of the dialogue is selected based on somewhat arbitrary flags that track whether specific NPCs are dead or not. That is, the game doesn't remember how they died or who killed them.

could be wrong and apologies if you've already indicated this, but GMDX cleans up a lot of these dumb little things that you're describing to the point that I've never noticed any bullshit that makes you go go "come on!" with regard to quest flagging. I was pissed the first time I got told by the quartermaster he wasn't going to give me extra ammo because I murderised Castle Clinton when it was UNATCO/Navarre who shot the joint up.

Sort of related, but I remember during my second playthrough knowing that all the soldiers go hostile after you send the NSF signal, I went around and knocked out everyone in the base. After sending the signal Simmons called me and I was absolutely astounded when the game reacted to what I had done and even had him comment on me "having done something to the base commander". Unsure if you have to do everyone or there's one guy you can take out but either way, that was a big holy shit moment for me.

Mission 3 complete

It seems like the only person who can tell the difference between knocking a person out and killing them is a gang leader. I was a little suprised that cyborg looking drug dealer was so easy to knock unconscious, especially considering that it doesn't work on another cyborg later on.

I managed to knock Juan Lebedev out before cyborgslut shot him to death, but the game considers that a kill. Seems like I have to let him die to maintain a no kill run, which at this point seems pointless because the game already thinks I've killed people.

I think I'm going to just kill the russian woman. At first I thought she was invincible but I've reloaded a few times and she can be killed with lams or rockets. Apparenlty you can spare her by damaging her enough that she runs away, but the only time I managed to do that was when she was coming through the corridor, I could hear her running a round so I look for her and she started the default conversation and then went to shoot Juan. Maybe if I had just rain out the door it would have worked? But I have a feeling the game would just consider Juan dead.

I think I'll kill her. If Paul values the life of this cyberslut over the life of his unarmed friend who she's trying to premeditatively murder in cold blood, then he's a colossal cuck who must have eaten the majority of the city's soy food which would explain it's scarcity.

>Seems like I have to let him die to maintain a no kill run, which at this point seems pointless because the game already thinks I've killed people.

The it-he.org guy tried to get around that by taking lebedev's unconscious body with him. There's literally no point in doing so other than the personal satisfaction of showing up at UNATCO HQ with the sleeping terrorist you were supposed to assassinate, and leaving him on a bench or manderley's desk or whatever.

>I could hear her running a round so I look for her and she started the default conversation and then went to shoot Juan.

That's interesting. I remember piling crates in the corridor outside lebedev's room kept anna from getting in to shoot him, though that kind of approach probably prevented the mission from ending. Another fun trick: stack explosive barrels around lebedev. The AI won't shoot the barrels immediately, even though she really wants to. She'll tell you he'll get a "speedy trial" so that you go away, and then blow him and herself up as you leave. This might be better or worse than other options depending on your definition of "not killing people."

Well, Mission four is done

I got to the part where UNATCO shows up outside Paul's hotel room, at first I killed the men in black with rocket launchersand some soliders too and then tranquilzed the rest, but I went on line and found that you only have to run through the hotel door for paul to survive. So I reloaded and just did that.

Long story short I made it back to battery park, which was the only place I could go, and was met with gunther herman. I must have spent half an hour trying to escape but it was pointless because of invisible walls.

This has negated all enjoyment I have had with the game up until this point, and I have half a mind to stop playing.

Also, I installed the damage resistance augmentation. I didn't think the emp one would be that useful because I'd just avoid emps. It also looks like there are some augs I missed. Don't know if I can find them again, but I don't really care at this point

After being cheated out of escape because the developers were to lazy to add a story branch for that, JC was captured. Whenever a character gets knocked out or otherwise imprisoned, it is essentially a plot contrivance that they're still alive. Speaking of which, some guy conveinently opened the doors for my escape.

I was able to knoch a man in black out by tranq darting him first, then sneaking behind him and smacking his back. I don't really care about mib lives though, because they come accross as robot-brained subhumans, but apparenlty they explode on death so it was probably for the best.

I found another aug canister, regen or energy shield. I think I'll go with regen because apparently it can become overpowered. It might synergize well with my maxed out damage reduction.

Yeah, you know how it is. They could have just had you skip mission five after escaping through the park, but then a lot of the Daedalus stuff would have to be rewritten, either ambiguated or duplicated since you might not have encountered him yet.

The developers originally wanted to include a branch where you don't even leave UNATCO, which would've been awesome. Waxing pinkos with my robot glownigger bros forever, every day an Anna Navarre Shooting Spree until Carter and Alex and Paul and maybe even Manderley are like

<Jesus Christ JC! These are human beings you're dealing with, you can't go in and just shoot white phosphorous everywhere!

Same can be said for Ultima Underworld, Thief, System Shock, etc. A lot of people blame the fact that graphics are way more advanced so it takes exponentially more time and resources to make a game like it. I honestly think that's bull. It more has to do with the fact that 60% of the budget goes to marketing, modern devs are visionless cucks who want to make movies, and publishers allow way less creative freedom. Developers want to earn money, like everyone in the business. Back in the day, a good way to earn a buck was to make a good game, so people playing the games will recommend it to one another and buy it. Now that the normies got roped in en masse and the industry got expanded and it's more profitable to outsource work to chinks or pajeets, and people with vision and passion get burned out working in soulless molochs like blizzard or rockstar. Being a visionary doesn't pay, unless you're a con man.

>Scam Citizen level crowd funding happens.

I don't believe in crowdfunding. The poster boy of kickstarter, pillars of eternity, had experienced developers, virtually unlimited money and time, and came out a boring, thoroughly underwhelming slog with pants-on-head retarded mechanics that required balancing for 3 years after release, and people bought it because of nostalgia marketing.

Had a good time in Hong Kong, desecrating Buddhist shrines and violently incapacitating party goers. Found a cool sword, hopefully I get to keep it. I can even kill gigantic robots with this thing by running around them in circles to avoid fire.

Seems like it was supposed to be a surprise that the Chinese woman was working for majestic 12, but you can here the m12 guards behind the wall say "quite, I hear him". Also doesn't help that all the computers in here house are labelled 'majestic 12".

Speaking of which, this tracer guy has an illuminati systems computer. I wouldn't say this mission is finished yet because I still have to go to verserlife.

I saved up enough skill points to max out my melee and I was… Disappointed. When it said that "An agent can render most opponents unconscious or dead with a single blow." I thought it actually meant what it said. But it doesn't make much If any noticeable difference with the baton, and the dragon tooth sword is already overpowered. What an expensive mistake that turned out to be. If I'm going to have to continue smacking people in the back then I shouldn't have put any points into melee because you can take out grunts that way at base level. I've reloaded the save of course, but all the points spent to get it up to advanced are still gone. Another 2700 skill points down the drain.

I think it's about time to install these augs found, they're taking up space in my inventory. Advice would be appreciated.

That's it right there, anon. No one wants to take risks, no one has any vision, and those that do are either trampled by their low-energy peers or squashed by the project managers/corporate overlords because putting time and effort into making something interesting is verboten when you can pump out soulless garbage that looks half-decent but is indistinguishable from everything else released that year and quickly forgotten right after

>The only way a Deus Ex clone could possibly succeed is if Scam Citizen level crowd funding happens

i_want_to_believe.bmp

Seriously though, only a strong independent studio or semi-autonomous subsection of a big publisher that's given time and money to make something half-decent and actually has real project oversight and management can make it happen. Too many indies are too ambitious and can't focus and end up shitting out something like Underworld Ascendent, if they put out anything at all. At this point the best we could hope for is either a crowd-funder to end crowd-funders in terms of direction and quality and design, or a team like Arkane picking it up either directly as a sequel or more likely as a spiritual successor. which will never happen because SQENIX has the rights, don't they?

>>16841856

yeah just because you get the old team back together and have tons of money and time doesn't guarantee a good game by any means. It's just nice to believe, anon. Unfortunately I think the only viable route is a big publisher actually taking enough of a risk and letting a team work on it with proper management to ensure goals are met and that dangerhair soyboys aren't just fucking around the whole time because they don't give a shit.

I don't know if you can chalk that one up to ambition. Is there anything in that game that is the obvious time sink? Every time I look at it the game just looks like a shallower version of Arx's world with extra mechanics brought in from Dark Messiah. There aren't any characters really from what I can tell just the narrator. If I had to guess I would just say the staff grossly overpaid themselves and completely blew through the budget they had.

if you boost your melee skills and have the aug that boosts your melee attacks you can start chopping down doors with your laser sword or other melee weapon, which is fuckin sweet. Unsure how much you need and if you even have to dump points into it because I usually have invested heavily into melee so I can use the riot stick to knock people out ASAP.

Really Enjoyed Human Revolution but can never be as great as the original. Still story is Decent and some aspects are good (Augs Need Constant Drugs to stay fit or else they die, Belltower Mercs Aesthetics and their lore, Take Down Animations are good to look, "Social/Dialogue" Battle are few but memorable and pissed on how its rarely used , Sarif was memorable CEO and loved him alongside Pritchard and others).

Mankind Divided is hot garbage especially the plot with the only exceptions are Stealth was Decent/ok and Holy Shit the Side Stories are fun interesting than the main game Especially Eliza your AI waifu tries to keep you safe alongside Seeing Sarif Again

I had an extremely similar experience, actually. The thing was that up until that exact point, the game made it seem like you had real agency; it didn't feel linear. Then the story says you get captured, so suddenly there's an invincible enemy and invisible walls. It's so disillusioning.

I honestly think it should've just been a cutscene; just make the surrender dialogue automatic and go directly to jail. That would've been bad, but nowhere near as bad as giving you a dialogue option that makes you think you can fight back and then pulling the rug out from under you.

SHIT

Dialogue shouldnt be a win/lose thing, it should be to build upon characters. Unfortunately, adam doesn't have any character whatsoever, and everyone else in the story is a shallow caricature. Sarif might be the only one that seems even mildly fleshed out.

Also: zombies. and wymyn computer. But at least the prequel managed to perfectly copy the completely unsatisfying endings, if even lazier than the original.

Gunther was a pathetic bitch, even when non-lethally incapacitating him. I spent a while tranqing him before smacking him with my bat. He started running away, but oddly enough continuing to hit him with the bat wasn't effective. After what must have been at least 10 minutes of constantly beating him I just tranqed him again.

I'm now powerful enough to destroy cameras with combat strength active while using the laser sword, which is nice.

Did MD flop so badly that they aren't any plans to touch the IP? I would have thought that the signal from it wasn't that people disliked the series (especially considering HR's sales and reception) but that they were pissed with how short and uninteresting MD was.

Maybe after Cyberpunk comes out and makes a billion dollars we'll get a proper sequel when sqeenix sees the cash and goes, okay let's try this again.

still unsure how these giant companies loaded with product managers, VPs and analysts aren't capable of comparing the success of one title (HR) with the flop of a second (MD) and not do a simple break-down of why one worked and the other didn't. Unless they were both such a shitload of work and so risky that it isn't worth trying something when you can shit out a final fantasy game and all but guarantee a hit

as shallow and showy as it was I don't mind HR either, it still feels like a Deus Ex even if I disliked most of the story. It was great running around the worlds and exploring and playing it sneaky or shooty. That's why I was so disappointed with MD because I thought great, we can move on and really expand and fix everything we fucked up or missed the first time. I've finished the game. So how did I play my Denton?

Snuck around and knocked people out with the baton

Avoided using tranqs, medikits, lockpicks, explosives, emps, multitools and pretty much any item that used ammo as much as possible

Hacked terminals and disabled cameras. Retardedly I only disabled one camera for each terminal until I realised you could do more than one.

Started destroying cameras and metal doors when I upgraded my stats and aug enough for that

Likewise used invisible aug a bit in the later part of the game

Got the aug for diminishing the bioelectric points used by augs

Used health regen and bullet resistance in combination, though I probably didn't need to by the time I maxed out my health regen

Didn't use most of the other augs much and let a bunch of skill points stack up but never ended up using them because they were never necessary.

Which ending did I pick? To be honest I did all of them, but the last one was merging with Helios. If I had to pick one as my canon ending it would be that, because it's the most pacifist ending and also seems the most fitting given the title of the game. I felt like it's cutscene was worse than the others though in that it went to quickly.

I spared everyone except for Navarre, whom I chased into a lam with pepper spray, and some animals and maybe bob page depending on if you count those other endings

The boss fights in this game were all pretty easy. The best example of this was Walton Simons. The strategy I used for him could probably have been used for every other boss: Hit him with a rocket in the right spot so he runs away and then tranq him unconsious.

This game was fun, but I don't feel like it's the best game of all time, probably because I'm jaded.

Max run speed legs aug for any build, pretty much. Hilariously, it speeds up crouched movement as well, thus completely negating run silent aug. And it lets you kill enemies by jumping on them.

>I spared everyone except for Navarre, whom I chased into a lam with pepper spray

She's the one person in the entire game that has to die at some point or another, but what's interesting is all the different possibilities of where or when she's killed, and how it affects the story.

>Which ending did I pick?

When I first played Deus Ex when it came out, as a wee lad of teenage years, I was convinced the only ending that made sense was illuminati. Later, much later, helios merge seemed like the best option. I'm sure personal politics have a lot to do with that. If/when they do a remake, I hope they at least bring back the choice of remaining loyal to UNATCO, as was supposed to be an option, allegedly.

>The boss fights in this game were all pretty easy.

They were perfect, they're just regular people like everyone else, not bullet sponges like in the prequel. And there's half a dozen ways at least to handle each, not least of which is just running past or avoiding them. Except for Anna, who must be dealt with if she's still alive during escape from UNATCO.

It's extremely difficult and I've only done it myself once, but basically you refrain from killing her until the end of mission 5, which is where you're supposed to have no choice because Alex won't give you the key to leave UNATCO HQ as long as she's still alive.
