Ni no Kuni 2 is on sale at the moment. I really enjoyed the first one and heard the second one's better. But does anyone know if the English translation's decent at all?
That or do any anons know how difficult the Japanese is in it? I've played a few JRPGs before in moon but this one looks a bit more complex than the first from screenshots, and there's no furigana option it seems.

It's babbys first RPG so I can't imagine it being too difficult.

Beaten the game 100%. As much as I want to say the story was laughable, the post-game retarded, and the characters lacking, I actually had fun with the game.
The battles were alright, the wargames were pretty fun, and I loved building up the kingdom. The sidequests allow you to recruit villagers who can help out
with certain tasks, including wargames. Evan is pretty cute and the only reason I bought the game. There are some great villagers too though.
Barely know any moon so far, but even I could make out the context of half the tasks and scenarios in the game. I'm sure you'll have an easy time.
The English translation didn't seem too bad. It's a pretty safe RPG for kids so there's only so much you can expect. At the same time though,
I wasn't smart enough to figure out if these were good or bad translations. Maybe someone else can shine some light on them.
Have some pictures. Sorry for the shitty quality.

Some other ones. Polite sage for double-post.
Looking back, yeah I definitely had a good time with this game.
Maybe I was just retarded for expecting a pinnacle of storytelling or something. Give it a shot OP.

Both games have serious pacing issues. The first suffers from some absurd difficulty spikes (much stronger random encounter monsters all of a sudden when you go to a different area that you must cross to advance the main storyline), but I still enjoyed it a lot more than 2 because it never deviates from the classic traditional JRPG formula. I hated the RTS and kingdom management elements in 2, wasn't expecting that.

Is it one of those JRPGs that automatically progresses dialogue and shit? Or is it one of those nice ones that waits for you to press to continue so I have time to look something up if I see an important looking word I don't know?
I've finished Lufia 2, Dragon Quest and Shining Force in moon by going super slow and adding every new word. But I've been playing Breath of Fire recently without adding a single word just to see how far I get with just the language I have. That game however waits for your input for practically everything, so my shitty reading speed is fine.

To be fair, the game did advertise the wargames and the kingdom management.
Whether you liked it or not, you should've known what you were getting into.

It has some animated cutscenes that you obviously can't just pause, but about 95% of the game is in silent dialogue boxes.
You'll have plenty of time to look things up, don't worry.

If you know some Japanese then there is no reason to play the translated version. The only way to get better is to keep studying and immersing as much as possible. Even a good translation will still not be the same as the native version anyway since the languages are so different.

Either way, I caved and bought it so we'll see very soon how difficult it is to keep pace with.

why can you not pause an animated cutscene? You can pause movie players, why not this?

Far as I'm aware it was handled similarly to Dragon Quest, with accented English audio and character name changes, but I don't recall hearing much worse than that. Do remember there being some debate back in the day from moonspeakers about whether the NDS original was better than the PS3 remake or not; former's got a full fan-translation now anyhow.

YOU WILL WATCH MY CUTSCENES WITHOUT PAUSE OTHERWISE YOU DON'T DESERVE TO PLAY MY GAME
Who knows. There are plenty of games where you can pause a cutscene as well. I honestly think many developers just haven't caught onto that fact for whatever reason.
That or they really are obsessed with their narrative and the "skip" option is just a basic courtesy that several games still haven't implemented.
I actually started a new game just to play through the first 10 minutes to see what it was like again and I do have to say the original Jap does it better, especially
when I hear Evan say Ding Dong Dell in English. Completely forgot about that, but at least he sounds nice in both versions.
