Anyone here who plays a lot of games on a WinXP ?
Recently, i´ve been playing a lot of Carmageddon 2 and NFS Carbon.
Both games have been modded and improved ofc.
There is a lot of great stuff out there specially for Carmageddon.
Roadreaction2000 website by Toshiba-3 packs a ton of old and new content.
Every day is a new adventure in that game.
Btw Re-Volt falls under the same category.
Best RC game to date with constant mods being released on revoltzone.net
So tell me what do you do ?

I have a Win2K machine which is more or less the same as XP under the hood (they were released within the same timespan from each other). Used it last year to rip all my mom's CDs because it had two CD drives while my other machines only had one or none at all. Picked up a few games from my local flea market, they were in a plastic storage tub, all boxed and $1 each, I regret not taking the whole thing.
>Far Cry
>Deus Ex II
>Rise of Nations
>Diablo II + Lords of Destruction (used this copy for a gamenight last year, felt like an alpha chad not having to apply all the patches for new machines but finding the latest game patch was a bitch when none of the websites load properly because of outdated certificates)
>Unreal II
I can't remember all the specs but
>AMD Phenom XP @ 1.0 GHz
>ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
>2GB RAM
>40GB HDD and 80GB HDD
>Two CD-RW drives

Neat.
My WinXp was bought in mid 2007.
It was a Service Pack 2 but then late it was update to a Service Pack 3.
So many great classics for that OS, even games from older generations work flawlessly on that Windows.
It just requires some tweaks, unless its one of those speed sensitive games where you need 2.0GHZ processor like Speed Busters for example.
I have Speed Devils on the Dreamcast because on the PC it requires that specific speed to run properly.
When it comes to specs:
It has a GTX 660
2GBs of RAM
Processor is a Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHZ
All games that i have installed run smoothly with almost no lag on a 144HZ monitor no less.
It is hooked up to my two PCs.
WinXp uses a HDMI cable, while the other uses a DVI-D.
My second PC is a 100% offline Win10 where it has a ton of games installed ever since the post XP era.
Its basically a pirate bay station ( top kek )
It has a GTX 1060
16GBs of Ram
Second Drive has 3TBs where i keep all the games installed.
Funny thing is i spent more time playing on WinXP since the games are just so addicting and fun to play.
Maybe i will have to start playing Age Of Empires Rise of Rome sometime, when i am not on the racing edge.
Do you enjoy RTS games ?
Like AOE ( i mentioned )
American Conquest ?
Cossacks ?
Age of Mythology ?

Never really cared about RTS, my friend is obsessed with them but I don't see the appeal. I just get my ass kicked.

I had to upgrade to Windows 7 to use emulators but I sure as hell am not going to use Windows 10

If you want top notch quality and have the money, that´s what you do.
They all look brand new with that graphics card added into the build.
To have both PCs connected its the only way, and it everything works just fine so i don´t see the problem.
RTS is like Chess tbh
You need to play well, and the time is also on the clock.
I love the thrill.

I´ve made that PC look like an advanced WinXP
Win7 was also made like a remake of WinXp, but it had some compatibility problems and lagg issues since i also tried XP titles on that computer, however with Win10 and Directx9 installed there is a boost in quality and no lagg.
Windows Defender ( Malware ) had to be completely shut down from within, such a nuisance.
Aside that, everything works fine.

No, I just use Wine on GNU/Linux so I don't have to run obsolete proprietary shitware from Microsoft.

I just run all these games on Windows 8.1 without problems, thanks to dgVoodoo, ThirteenAG and other community patches.

Go with what works my friend.
As long as the games themselves are being played by someone who appreciates them.
I prefer to play them on WinXP.

When it comes to Shoot´em up games.
This is what i play:

Ofc you need the cartridge and a SNES to play it flawlessly.
I also have a good Philips brand CRT TV for this, it is hooked up to my SNES, PS2 and Dreamcast.

where do you go to get CRTs fixed?

Idk since i never had an issue with mine.
Its well preserved and maintained past all these decades. ( Its a late 90s CRT TV )
Easy fix is probably to get another one tbh, unless you know someone who is knowledgeable enough to fix it for you.

Apparently they ended support for Win7 a few days ago and I never noticed.

Most people won't, to be honest. I wouldn't have known if one of my friends wasn't constantly poking me asking what I plan to do now that support has ended, and if I plan on upgrading yet. I don't know why a lot of people act like this is a huge event, because a large number of people don't even run Windows Update, and almost no personal users call tech support. I just assume it's a bloated marketing campaign.

No, I asked myself that a few years ago and switched to 10. God damn do I miss 7, but I am duel booting Linux but rarely on it due to the lack of support on certain programs i use. Not to mention certain vidya. Meanwhile a friend of mine completely switched to Linux(Gentoo to be exact).

That's the spirit m8. You have my respect.
If I had enough room and disposable income, maybe I could feel motivated to build a 486/100 or Pentium MMX/233 rig running Windows 98 with a nice 17-inch Sony Trinitron like the first PCs I've owned, to play old games.
But just reminding that it is possible to run most games mentioned in this thread perfectly fine even in Windows 10 64-bit, not even VMs needed. Just not out of the box.
