he was able to become a jedi in an incredibly short amount of time compared to his father, who spent nearly a decade honing his skills and going on several missions throughout the galaxy. luke learned how to use the force in a matter of a few weeks (albeit he was being taught by Yoda but that's still a very short amount of time to become a master)
after the empire fell and he continued to hone his skills and teach others, then it makes more sense, but he is still somewhat of a mary sue. nowhere near as much as Rey though.

Way to just out yourself as knowing jack shit about the game. Kasumi's whole character arc is about how she's a terrible gymnast because of a mental block caused by her comparing herself to her more successful, dead, twin sister, Sumire. Then later on it's revealed that Kasumi is actually Sumire and that Kasumi was the successful twin. But Kasumi died in a car crash that Sumire somewhat caused.
Sumire's guilt and inferiority complex causes her to wish that Kasumi lived and that she was the one who was dead. She meets Royal's new villain who offers his cognition altering powers to make Sumire believe the aforementioned illusion that she is Kasumi and that Sumire is dead. Sumire accepts because she simultaneously wishes she was dead and wants Kasumi's success to live on.
Even after Sumire's illusion is broken and she finally accepts herself, she is shown to still not be as good a gymnast as her sister. But that she wants to become just as good as her one day so that she can honor her memory. Only "Mary Sue" thing about her is her Persona, which has the strongest single-target phsyical skill and a unique skill that boosts critical rate of the whole party (and not everyone in the battle like Rebellion). But she doesn't join the party until the bonus palace and bosses can't be crit so it's not like her existence destroys the game balance.

hey bros this is my OC, he's a recolor of hercules, actually he's kinda like hercules except way stronger. in fact he kills hercules and he kills and all the gods too, plus all the hot chicks want to do him. and if you kill him he can even defeat hades and come back to life WAY MORE POWERFUL. basically he is stronger than goku but he has a really tortured passed and a lot of darkness that makes him more relatable and realistic.

Kratos's character is actually good in GoW 1, and also not bad in the PSP games since those games actually tried to treat him as a human being.
The problem is God of War 2 just ignores any development he had in GoW 1 and degrades him into a meathead that only wants to kill for no fucking reason beyond him not being happy that he's a god I guess? The point of GoW 1 is for him to kill Aries, and redeem himself to a degree, and then he just ends up being worse then Aries, since Kratos's actions end up killing far more people by the end of God of War 3 then Aries ever would have, they needed to pull a huge retcon out their ass that the God's became corrupted to justify Kratos murdering them. when in God of War 2 Zeus is totally justified in wanting to kill Kratos since Kratos was being a fucking psychopath.
God of War 1 should have just ended with Kratos killing himself since that's how a Greek Tragedy works, but no one has the balls to let him do that. Maybe if God of War 2 was actually made by the same director who made God of War 1, Kratos's character could have gone somewhere more fitting after becoming a god, but instead the fucking guy who Directed the God of War 2 that turned Kratos into a meathead idiot, is getting praise for making Dad of Boy and "Growing Kratos up" out of the meathead idiot phase that he's fucking responsible for putting him in, in the first place.

DMC4 and 5 Dante kind of just want you to pretend that Dante has no flaws, so that makes him Mary-Sue tier in those games.
DMC1 Dante is straight up being manipulated for the entire game by Mundus, Mudnus just didn't realize it was possible for Trish to develop empathy, since Demons aren't supposed to have that, if that didn't happen Dante would have been fucked, since he didn't have the motivation to awaken Sparda's true power until he basicly saw his Mother die a second time.
DMC3 Dante is kind of flawless in his actions, but Lady straight up just isn't attracted to him, if she was into him, then he'd be allot more of a Mary sue in that game.
The Anime shows that Dante is a total Slob and Trish and Lady don't like sticking around him due to his lifestyle.
As fun as DMC4 and 5 Dante is to watch, he's character itself is not terribly interesting.

I beat Dark Forces 2 recently and Kyle Katarn is pretty Mary Sue in that game, he was already the one to steal the Death Star plans, and he stopped the Dark Troopers, And Vader himself is like "should watch out for that guy" in just the first game, but in Dark Forces 2 he becomes a damn powerful Jedi in less then a week, and is good enough to take on Dark Jedi who have probably been so for most of their lives.
Games and story are still fun tho.

Leon is a rookie in RE2, but off screen he gets Super Awesome Mega Spy Training, and is a totally badass action hero marry Sue in RE4, but that's what the game is going for on purpose so it works.

I feel like to say that is to ignore the fact that nero exists and is in fact, the emotional core of the story. While the two brothers bicker and squabble like old men to kill eachother, nero summons his power to try and keep his newfound family together.
Of course dante and vergil's conflict is essentially what the entire story revolves around, but 5 is still nero's story above all else.

If you want an example of a proper Mary Sue please take a much harder look toward Rey. The only thing I'll concede is the huge amounts of plot armor he needed to survive the overwhelming odds stacked against him. But the story was not afraid to make him suffer for that luck. He did not get out of every situation unscathed or with perfect grace. Please stop using Mary Sue for characters with plot armor, or plot contrivances.

People use it a lot for characters they don't like but it's more meant for characters that feel like they've been shoved into the story for the author to project their ego onto. It's a lot more rare than people make it out to be. Also, just because a character is written like shit and does everything perfectly for no reason doesn't mean they're a mary sue, it's usually just sloppy writing.

It's used wrong a lot. It came from an old Star Trek parody fanfic, where the main character of the fic, Mary Sue, is super talented and beautiful at everything, saves the Enterprise multiple times by herself, and is universally liked by everyone who isn't evil.
The true rule of the Mary Sue is this: does the character serve the story, or does the story serve the character? No matter how powerful or well liked a character is, they still exist within the context of a story, and that story has rules. Reality also has rules, and assuming the story isn't explicitly breaking them, those need to be followed as well. So, does the character follow the rules or are they the super special exception? If they're an exception, what does being an exception cost them? Are they a pariah or a public figure because of it? Also, you know the rules of reality? One of those is "you work hard and take risks to get things and accomplish goals". Does the character have to do this, or are they simply handed things when the plot dictates they need them? A rule of a story is that other characters have personalities and competencies. Do these personalities and competencies twist whenever this character is around in order to make this character look better? Oh right, one more thing that's just a sign of a bad character, but is common in Mary Sues: does the character have tons of traits (eg: related to this person, a friend of this other person, strong, beautiful, competent, talented) but no actual personality (eg: ruthless, judging, tranquil, commanding, passive)?
Basically, Rey from nu Star Wars is the most archetypal Mary Sue that I've ever seen, like she's more of a Mary Sue than the original Sue, it's kind of insane.
